two-way radios/rude people

We used the 2 way Motorola,, got them at Target before we left. When we tried using them, a little boy kept screaming into it everytime we wanted to talk. Once a guy came on and I asked is this you, (My husband name), cause he came to the Magic Kingdom later. Some guy came on and said "I can be that guy if you want me to be".

I gave up and gave it to my DBL and he got my husband first crack at it.

On cell's - We have a really old plan yet, with $30, with added phone for $10 with unlimited minutes after 7. If we added another state with Cellular One we would of lost our 7 - 9:00 and our plan would of went up to $45 and $18 for the extra phone.

We used them a few times in the parks and my bill was only an extra $8, so it isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I'm glad I found this post. My DS has been trying to talk me out of taking the radios - he's 13, so that's typical : ) We also had problems with them in Washington DCast year. Don't these obnoxious people have anything better to do?

I like the advice of having a back-up channel to go to in case of interruptions. We plan on sticking together, but they'll be useful if we are seperated, we'll just turn them on.

In my one experience with these radios, I found that the old fashioned, lets meet by the tiki room to work much better.

Yes it is annoying to you to have others interfer with your communications, but I would bet they feel the same about you.

****Funny Story****
The one time we used them my DD had one of them and someone said "we are in the bathroom" My DD then replys to them "Well, I hope you wiped." :D

(And yes, she did get reprimanded for it, but it was still very funny)

I've heard they are not worth getting if they don't have the sub channels. Is that the same thing as sub codes? I know there's the possibilty of interference, but I also know that I would feel a lot better knowing where my family is if we decide to split up. We have a group of kids aging 17, 12, 11 and I know they won't want to do all the same things as the youngest who is 6.

To buy or not to buy???

I have solved my dilemma on this issue buy buying 3 Tracfones for my Family. Right now you can buy them on there website for $25 plus shipping and that includes 60 mins. Plus if you activate on the web and give them your email address for special offers they give you 20 more mins. There is also a coupon book they send with the phone so when you redeem your 60 mins of airtime they add another 20 mins. And if you are referred by another Tracfone member you get 60 more mins added. I already bought one phone and loved it so much I bought 2 more. I have allready used the codes on my first to made sure they work. but for 160 mins for $30 (0.18 per min ) Its a good deal even if you decide throw it away after your trip.

I purchased a set to take with us to WDW just recently. I didn't realize that you have to apply for a license to use most of the channels (GMRS) and it's $75.00! Will the other channels work just as well?
