Two-way Radios Helpful?

We have just purchased two Motorola two-way radios (w/ sub-channels). Wise purchase? I've heard that they can be helpful in the parks, but I don't know if the two mile range is enough (assuming we're in different parks).

Any tips or suggestions on how to use these things?

Did you get a quelch feature so you can hear one another??We had troulbe with too many peopleon one channel. Radio Shack has the best FRS radios.

They work if you are in the same part of a park such as different parts of tomorrowland.

But They will not work for Different parks. The Parks are just too far from one another and the areas between are densely treed.

Sounds like you bought something like we have. We love them!! Only once in June '00 did we have someone else on our channel. (We used our daughter's birthday as our back up channel so if we did switch we knew which one to go to without announcing it.) It's true, they don't reach park to park. But we were able to talk to my dad in the parking lot at MK from Tomorrowland. It does depend on how many large objects are around.

TIPS:
If we were splitting up we would designate a specific time to call each other then meet up. Also remember to turn them off when on rides and in shows.
Buy rechargeable batteries...they're cheaper in the long run.
Always push the call button and wait for your party to reply before you start talking.
(Some have said they have trouble hearing the call, but we never did.)
Put your name & resort on the radio in case you lose one.

Ours came in handy last December. We split up and left some of our party at MK and talked to them while we were at WL!(is that only two miles?)

We use ours all of the time!! They are great!! We take ours to Disney but also use them for visits to the Mall of America, or travelling with family - put one in one car and another in the other car. Lots of uses in this family.

They work great in only one park.
