1) I've heard several people, including Bob Sehlinger, suggest going to the pool when arriving before thhe room is ready on the first day. Where do people change? In the bathroom?

2) Is there a pedestrian crossover between the Magic Kingdom bus area and the Contemporary? I've walked this twice and I've never seen a sign of it, plus the light isn't really timed well for people to get completely across the road. How do people handle this?

1 - yes or wear your bathing suit under your clothes or a coverup.
2 - You cross the street with the light. There is no crossover to avoid the traffic. If you catch the light towards the end of the cycle, you just wait on the island between the roads.

I can answer number 1:

We do this when our room is not ready. At the BW, there is a gym with showers, lockers and other amenities. We change there and lock up our stuff.

If there was not a gym, then I would change in the pool bathroom and have bell services store the rest.

If I arrive early, after check in I change. Bring beach bag in carry on, then check carry on with Bell Service. Depending on which resort your staying at, some have change rooms with showers at the pool. And lockers.

Swimming works well on departure day too, while you’re waiting on the Magical Express. I’ve stayed in many WDW resorts and all of them had locker rooms with showers near the pool.

1. Yes, bathroom, changing room, anywhere. (and who is Bob Sehlinger?)
2. There's a cross walk with a pedestrian light just like in any city and of course people can get completely across the road in the cross walk. Disney wouldn't have a walking path that wasn't safe to use.

Bob Sehlinger is the author of The Unofficial Guide.

As far as a crosswalk from the buses, no. You walk to the first security check point and go through that, then take the path to the right to CR. We actually asked about this last trip as we were having dinner at California Grill and took the bus from Dolphin to MK. My son wanted to cross where CMs cross which will take you almost right to where the security checkpoint is on the walkway from CR but we were given a big ole NO from CMs and security. As others have said, there is a crosswalk at the light where the parking lots are and you just cross it like you would any other light crosswalk. Actually, there are two, one crossing the main road to the parking lots and then turn right and cross the next going to CR.

I pack swim stuff in my carry on both coming and going! I usually have late evening flights, so I often swim, then shower, change to "airport" clothes, then go!

The only time we went to the pool first we were staying at Kidani at AK. They have a locker room by the pool where you can change. They will hold all your luggage at bell services. We pack bathingsuits in a carryon bag.

We are pool people on arrival and departure day. I just change in the bathroom.

Our plane should arrive by 10am...yay!

My bathing suit is always in my carry on bag if I'm arriving earlier than 3pm!!! I've been stuck without it, during the warmer months and really regretted not having it. I just change in the resort bathroom. Not an issue. Bring a plastic bag to stick it in if you need to put it back in your bag.
As far as getting to the CR from MK, no crossover. But, we've never had an issue walking back and forth. There is an island in the middle of the road, so if you can't get all the way across in one shot, it's not dangerous. When leaving the bus area, stay to the right, hugging the bus drive way, go under the monorail line, and go right...you're on the path to the CR.
