I have and AP and can get a magic band with it. I also have two trips scheduled this year one with a split stay. Is there anyway that I can ask them to use my annual pass magic band for all of these stays. I think it is crazy and wasteful to receive 3 extra sets.

From what I have been reading, on MDE if you don't verify your address, you won't get them. I haven't done that yet, but will start doing that, as I have every color now, and doubles!

We just went at the beginning of April, and it was a spontaneous trip (3 days notice), when we got to POR we already had on our AP bands, and we did not get the standard grey ones.

I'm an AP and so far they have sent me a MagicBand for every reservation plus my AP band. There's nothing you can do to cancel them. You could just skip address verification, but I imagine they would just have a band waiting at the front desk if you did that.

Since they insist on sending me one every time I book a trip, even if it's just one night on a weekend, I decided to make a game of it and try to collect all the colors.

See I'm different I feel a pay a fortune for the disney trips so if they want to send me MB ill gladly take one in every colour :)

You can link it to the current bands you have. We now have bands in every color so I can coordinate!

I had a trip in Dec (MB) and Upgraded to AP (mb) I booked a trip for the 24 hour event (mb) and I have a split stay in August (mb, mb)

way too many. and I agree its wastefull- The amount of money disney is spending shipping these are mind blowing.

Just don't confirm/customize and refuse the gray bands when you check in. Then you won't get extras and nothing has been wasted.

I'm pretty sure they put our name right on the grey bands even when we didn't customize them. Then what? They just throw them away when we refuse them?

I agree they need to figure out a better way to manage this - it could save a ton of money. We have 4 sets now from 2 trips (Aug & Feb).

LOL this is how I feel! I received a magic band back in Oct. I have 2 trips coming up this year and went in and customized them so that they don't give me grey when I check in (this happened on our split stay in Oct). I am Canadian so they don't ship them to us. Plus I have an AP voucher I plan to use in Sept so I imagine I will get the AP band in Sept too. I am a little confused on how it's all going to work but I am sure I will figure it out there.

Back to the poster that said with every color she can coordinate...

So the bands are tied to you and you are tied to the reservation? Or does GS have to designate "the one"?

They're all linked to your MDE account. You can go in and deactivate a particular band, but they're automatically all linked to anything you have in your account. There's nothing GS (or you) have to do to activate a band.

I also already have a full set in every color and have more short upcoming trips booked. When I customize them now I just put my initials and the date. That way I will know which bands are the oldest since I think the rfid chips last only a couple of years. I had trouble remembering which color I picked for which trip and it doesn't really show the dates on mde when I looked. A CM told me awhile ago that there is a limit to how many magic bands and old kttw cards can be "active" on your account at any one time, so I went ahead and "deactivated" all my old kttw cards and old expired passes. He also mentioned that they are going to stop mailing out new bands to people who have them in the future, but I guess time will tell.

I have a MB from a trip in March and I also have an annual pass MG. I have another trip scheduled for June and I was going to customize another MB so I can have another color. I understand that all three bands will be linked to my MDE account, but I'm wondering if all three will work to open my door at the resort.

I'm 100% sure they have a special rate worked out with the shipping companies they are using. It's nowhere near what we would pay as individuals to ship something like that.

And IMO most people don't do countless onsite stays in a year, nor do most people go to multiple resorts during a stay.

Exactly.

Other people have not experienced there being a name inside of the generic, not-modified, not-address-confirmed ones they want to give you at checkin. They aren't linked yet to your account so they are just given to the next person.

The bands are tied to your MDE. Until you actually disconnect them from your account, they are linked to it.

Hasn't happened for me yet. I think I have about 13 total cards and bands on my MDE, not to mention hubby's, son's, my aunt's and cousin's. All still work.

I have a MB from a trip in March and I also have an annual pass MG. I have another trip scheduled for June and I was going to customize another MB so I can have another color. I understand that all three bands will be linked to my MDE account, but I'm wondering if all three will work to open my door at the resort.

All 6 of mine and all 5 of DS's worked interchangeably to open our 4 doors during our January trip (cobbled together with free nights through hotels.com and our few DVC points), and they only ever wanted to see ONE band at checkin.

Up to 9 can be active per person at 1 time. You can refuse them when you make reservations. You can also return them at check out for recycling soon.

They are trying to be respectful of environment.
