1) is it a problem to keep formatting cards? should i use the whole thing up then format, or format after i download what ever i took that time( not concerned about keeping these as they are mostly playing around with the camera type things). is it that the card doesn't work as well after so many downloads or something?

2) the rebel xt.. from what i can tell doesn't have any type of fill flash but does have a flash compensation which i can't really figure out what it is for...but can i use it in a similar fashion as a fill flash or is there some thing i can do (till i can sink money into another flash which will not be anytime soon)

Thanks

It's actually better to keep formatting cards. So your card is as new at all times (not fragmented) and supposedly if there is a bad sector here and there, it'll be detected during the formatting process.

the fill-flash activated just by tunring the flash on, and because the camera uses E-TTL metering you don't need to adjust the FEC at all. I usually adjust FEC between +half to +1 stop for dark / low light situations.
