Our last full day my DD and I decided to spend a little time doing our own thing and relaxing while veryone else was at MGM so we decided to pool hop. We out on our suits and hopped the boat from OKW to SSR. What a great pool it is, especially for smaller kids. We spent several hours there, even had some of the bigger kids join us for a while. Everyone had a blast, the kids even said SSR is where they want to stay next!

In the mock up it was a walk in pool, is that how you get in?

My family enjoyed the SSR pool also. It has a zero entry on one side, walk in steps on another side and a couple of ladders. MY older ones liked the big slide, my 5 yo liked the small slide and the zero entry not to mention the Donald Duck fountains.

Our family loved the pool too. It is my kids favorite. It had something for everyone. The Donald play fountian, zero entry, and small slide for my 4 year old neice and nephew. The big slide, arcade, community hall, mug station for my kids, DS 13, DD12 DS9. Pool bar (with shade ) and AP near by for the adults. It is by far our favorite pool. We also loved the quiet pool just as much. The view is fantastic! Have fun. :cheer2:

That is part of what makes it so wonderful. Part of it is zero entry, part of it is like a regular pool. Then there are the two slides, one for the big kids and one for the little ones. There are also fountains that shoot out into the zero entry area and of course the Donald fountain play area. The chairs are also much nicer than those hard white plastic ones that you find everywhere else.

All in all it is great. The only thing that would make it better is if the pool bar actually had a menu you could order from. If it had we would have had dinner right there and stayed for the whole evening.

I agree the pool at SSR is top notch probably my favourite of the DVC ppols we have used. The splash pad is a hit for all the kids that were at the pool when we were there. The only thing I can think of is to maybe change teh colour of the concrete around the pool area as it gets extremly hot in teh warmer months. I at first couldn't understand why the sprinklers seemed to be all sparying the wrong direction this was until I took my shoes off and walkes on the cement. This was just in May so I can only assume it gets worse later in the summer months.

We loved both the quiet pool (Congress Park) and the High Rock pool. The zero entry is great - I think it might have needed to be bigger once the resort is at full capacity - but hopefully there will be enough people at the quiet pools to balance it out.

Great to hear good things about SSR - I cant wait to go back

I agree that the pool might have been bigger with all the units that will be open by 2007. And yes, the pool deck is very hot in August! That being said we love the time we spent there last Aug.

But you can add us to the list of families that will use the quiet pools more at SSR than the main pool, especially if all the quiet pools at SSR are laid out like the Congress Park Pool.

We thoroughly enjoyed the CP pool and it was great doing EMH's in the evening and being able to unwind in the hot tub or pool (sometimes at 2am) which is so well lit, you can see the bottom of the pool.

I thought my boys would want to slide more, but they were more than happy with the CP offering.

So thumbs up for the HRS and CP pool from our family.

The feature pool is very nice if you want to go down the slides, but it is too shallow to be a swimming pool for adult (the deepest area is only around 3 feet). So, plan to go down the slides and/or relax in that pool and swim in the other pools - which were great pools, much better than the usual quiet pool.
And, even though the feature pool is a zero entry pool, which should be good for people with disabilities, the shallow depth means it is too shallow for many people with disabilities. It's great for someone with difficulty walking who would like to walk into the pool and walk around or for someone who is planning to sit in the water wheelchair (ask the lifeguards about use). But, we would not be able to take DD out of the wheelchair in that shallow of a pool.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the middle of the pool is about 5 feet, (as long as we are still discussing SSR pools) I swam several laps every day and it was fine for us.

We were only in it the feature pool once, but I did walk around in the whole pool and looked at the depth markers along the outside. I might be mistaken, but I thought a pool could not be any deeper than the depth marked on the outside of that area. There was a group of women sitting in the middle of the pool, so I didn't go there, but I assumed since I could see them sitting, it was no deeper there than where I was. I did try to swim a bit, but after a short bit of swimming, it got shallow again. I tried in several places. Other than children, I didn't see anyone actually swimming in the pool (and it is a great pool for kids).
The other pool (Congress Park) was awesome though and we swam there every day.

You are not wrong, the pool is deeper than 3 feet. I am not of the group that likes this pool, however. How can a resort not serve food poolside? Do they want people dripping wet going into AP? The surface they used around the pool is not good for Florida. It gets way to hot and is so slippery. When we were there the Donald play area was closed because the surface had already started to deteriorate. Poor planning all the way around. The pool area also has few tables to sit at, maybe 4 total if that. Even if you haul it up to AP for food there is no place to sit and eat. It has a very cold feeling to the pool also. We really never felt comfortable there. We enjoyed to CP pool much more. For us the Stormalong Bay pool and BWV pool are the best for our family.

SSR has added many new tables and chairs and loungers as new buildings come online.
We were there for 13 nights last month and there were plenty of umbrella tables and loungers. The entire area in front of the arcade is tabled. There are also an entire row of loungers that sit under umbrellas.
Daitcher is correct, they do not sell food poolside, but there is a place to refill mugs and a bar with more umbrella tables.
Donald's area is fully operational, and sprinklers spray directly on the walkway, to keep it cool.

This picture of the slide area at the feature pool shows why I did not think the pool could be much deeper than just over 3 feet. The 3 foot 6 inch is the deepest area that I saw marked along the perimeter of the pool.

This picture shows the small slide (marked 3 feet 3 in) with the zero entry point to the right of the picture.

And in this picture the big slide is off the picture to the right side and the zero entry part is off the picture by the rocks to the left side of the picture. When we were there, I saw a group of women sitting in the pool just about in front of the lifeguard chair in that picture about 8 -10 feet away from it.
So, if it is deeper, it's deeper in the middle and it's not marked for that depth at the side.

I think it is in general a very nice pool and nice especially for children. But, I was disapppointed from what I could see from a disability standpoint.

My 2 yo son absolutely loved it.. While my son played in zero-entry area, my wife and I could sit in water relaxing and watch him without holding to keep him floating...

If you have toddler, this SSR main pool is the place to go...

Yes pools can be deeper than the point of entry on the side. The large pool at the Grand Floridian is deeper in the middle than it is on the sides. By marking the sides guests know what they are stepping off into, depth wise. As you walk to the middle you would naturally realize it is getting deeper. :flower:

Ok, let me try this again.
For disabled access, a legal slope for a ramped entrance (zero entry) is 12 inches of length for every 1 inch of difference in height. So to get from ground level to a 3 foot pool depth takes a 36 foot long "ramp". A slope that is steeper than that has additional requirements, like handrails on both sides, platforms, etc.
We know that the perimeter of the pool at SSR is between 3 feet and 3 feet 6 inches (since that's what is painted on the edges). To go 1.5 to 2 feet deeper (5 feet) would need a sloped area that is 18 to 24 feet long, which I think is too long for the SSR main pool. (It would actually have to be double that because you'd have to get down to 5 feet and then get back up to 3 feet 6 inches before you get back to the edge of the pool).
That's why I don't it's possible for it to be any deeper than the 3 feet 6 inches that it is near the main slide.
