Two Tables for One Family?

I phoned WDW Dining today, to see whether an earlier time was available for one of our dining choices, Liberty Tree on 8/15. The CM told me that no, there was nothing available for a group of five, unless I wanted to split our family between two tables.

Is this common? I was somewhat surprised by the offer. Although I understand how that might meet our needs, but wasn't prepared for anything like this...family fun at Disney divided in two!

I passed on the offer and will continue phoning to check for that elusive earlier time.

It is common. Most tables are 4 tops, they have a few larger tables that they will guarantee when booking, but if none of them are available then they have to book you for 2-four tops or 1-four top and 1-two top to accomodate the party size. They have to tell you that they are not guaranteed to be together because the Dining CM has no way of knowing the configuration of the seating available at the location for that night, they only see what is available, they are not actually assigning you to a specific table. Now with that said, most of the restaurants will try and pull tables together or put you next to one another if possible, but there is always the possibility that it would not be possible so they have to advise you of that when booking. Whenever it has happened to us we have ended up at tables next to one another rather than having them pull tables together.

I would do as you are, keep calling back. There is the possibility that someone with a larger group will cancel, freeing up the table size for you!

When we were last in Disney, we went with my Dsis and her family. We had an ADR for CRT breakfast. The only way were able to get it was to have 2 tables. We were guaranteed tables near each other, but still had to be split up. This worked out perfectly for us, because my family sat at one table and my Dsis and her family sat at the very next table. We were close enough to still talk with one another and interact with each other.

on a trip with a party of 8 we had about 3 ADRs that were booked at two seperate tables.

Le Cellier was the only restaurant that they were not able get us at one table. We were put at two seperate tables, but were right next to each other.

I just booked some more ADRs for our trip in Nov and went ahead and let them book 2 tables again for us at one restaurant.

We are 7 and for almost every ADR they tell me we could be split in 2 tables. But so far we each year we are always seated together. Watch this year we will be split :lmao: but they always say that if we were to be split the tables would be near each other.

A few years back we wanted to add one to ressies at CP and they said they could but we would be at two tables, I said okay, but when we got there she said for 5 and I said yes and then they took us to one table for all of us. :cloud9:

yes this is very common. Keep in mind that when you do check in the CMs will do whatever they can to get you in one table. It is not from a lack of trying if you still end up separate. Whenever we travel with a group of 8-10, we always expect this. I'm happy when they say only 2 tables, because sometimes they'll try to seat you at 3. Sometimes we are together, and sometimes are not. Guess it depends how much you want to eat at a certain place. Keep in mind that the availability will get worse, not better, so it's better to get an ADR than to pass and HOPE one opens. Most recently, we have been separate at Cindi's castle and the Plaza.

We were told that for our last trip for just a party of 5 for Flying Fish. We didn't take it but continued to call & got what we wanted.

During my recent calls to book ADRs I ran into the same thing. I booked two meals for a party of 13. I was told they would both be two tables - one that seats 6, one that seats 8. I was guaranteed we would get tables close to each other, but only if we booked during the first 20 minutes of the serving time for that particular meal (breakfast at Ohana and dinner at Cape May).

For another reservation they could only accomodate us at 3 tables, at which point I said no thank you!

Then I was trying to make another reservation for just our family of 6 and was offered two tables. I again said no thank you!

To tell you the truth though, considering I just booked my July ADRs last week and got almost all my first choices, I'm just happy to be booked-two tables or not!
