Hey all! Just returned from my annual Christmas-New Year's vacation at WDW. I heard two interesting rumors...

1. En route to Epcot, our bus driver told us to make sure to experience "Spaceship Earth" while we were there before it is REMOVED! He said he was told they are going to to remove the current ride and replace it with an indoor roller coaster attraction.

2. Our ride host for Body Wars told us that the Wonders of Life pavillion would be going to "seasonal operation" after January 4.

Any truth to either of these?

Rumor #2 is true. It was announced by Disney.

Rumor #1 is not true as far as putting a roller coater in.

Rumor #1 is a rumor that has been around in one way or another.....though what I've generally seen is that the geosphere structure will remain and will be gutted to create a new attraction, possibly a coaster, and that the ride will take up the existing space of the Spaceship Earth ride and also the space where you exit that ride (sorry, can't recall the name...)

Of course this is as far as I know, simply rumor or a proposed project.....some seem to happen, others don't.

And yes, #2 is true.

While im a roller coaster lover, i wouldnt want SpaceShip Earth to contain a roller coaster. I have no problem with a updated attraction inside of it, but i would perfer something that is more educational inside of it like they have now rather than reducing it into another thrill ride. They have alot of other places in their parks where they could put a thrill ride and should leave SpaceShip Earth as a family/educational attraction.

The gutting of Spaceship earth is slated as part of the re-vitilization of the park. They have several things that they want to do. This was published through Jim Hill and the project is called Project Gemini. Soarin was on the list of additions along with the gutting of SE and a new ride out infront of Land and Imigination area. Along with the project new names for FW and WS have been already applied for in the trademark agency.

As for the Wonders attractions that has already taken effect. It is currently closed.

I remember reading that the plans to gut the interior for a coaster had to be scrapped because the current ride track platform is part of the structure of the dome. While anything is possible and I'm quite sure that an internal skeleton could be retrofitted to the building, I'm not betting on it for financial concerns.

I would look to see another dark ride with a new story but basically following the same layout.

Of course, A.V. might have more info.

P.S. BobO NOT wanting a coaster! Bob, have you suddenly come down with Malaria? You are not yourself! Lie down. Drink liquids. Breathe in a paper bag. If this is true I want this entire thread carved into granite. Wow!
