So it's getting pretty close to the time when we leave for Disneyland, and I just had a couple questions.
1. I'll be able to spend a few hours by myself at the park, and other than single rider lines (I've already looked to see which rides have them) what can I do alone? Are there any particular places that anyone loves going to by themselves? Certain places to eat? Just hang out?
2. When I was super little my parents got a little umbrella with my name on it from DL. It was from a cart (near NOS, I believe) that sold umbrellas, parasols and mini parasols. Does DL still sell these? I'd love to get one for my mother when I'm there. :goodvibes

I'm always there with at least 2 small children in tow, so I have no experience at Disneyland alone. However, I did notice the personalized umbrella/parasol cart in NOS on our last trip, so you should be able to get one! :thumbsup2

If I had a chance to do Disney by myself I would most likely spend the time in DCA. Hang out on the Warf and relax in front of the WOC for some ME time.

If I were going at it alone I possibly might do:
- a Disneyland tour like Walk in Walt's Footsteps
- Take up photography and just go hog wild
- Sit on bench on mainstreet porch, grab a snack, and people watch

my favorite place to sit, relax and people watch is the bench, on the front porch on main street. I also love to shop.

I went on POTC alone and asked for a front seat. Lots room to put me bag down next to me, sip my lemonade and relax for a while. I also just loved to wander around the park and take it all in - without worrying that I was slowing everyone down or wasting time. Go to mainstreet and watch a Mickey cartoon at the theater, go character searching, people watch for a while, talk to cast members about their experiences in the park, or just dance to the music in the air ;)

They still have the parasols in NOS, near CO IIRC. :) Both my girls have them and I think I just might get one for DGD3 for Christmas this year. :)

Things to do alone.....I don't know, I've never been to DL alone....LOL I would watch cartoons on MS, talk to random CM's, do a little shopping.....you can do any ride alone, just tell them you're a party of 1 having a me party. :)

If the Pin traders are out, that's a nice thing to see alone. You can spend time talking with all the traders. The railroad is also pretty neat alone, you can stay as long as you want on it and just take in all the sights.

You are already a very good photographer..sounds alot like what I would do.

Oh, I LOVE "me time" at the Parks. Reality is, you can do anything you can do with others. There's nothing "different" about being alone, except that it's just you. Do what YOU want, when YOU want to, and for as long as YOU want. Let's see things to do alone at Disney, aside from anything and everything:

  • Enjoy the Dapper Dans on Main Street
  • Watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
  • Enjoy magic in the Magic Shop on Main Street
  • Sit in the Hub and people watch while enjoying the sights and sounds of Disneyland
  • Pin trade
  • Watch the animated shorts in the Cinema on Main Street
  • Ride the Mark Twain, ask if you can help pilot it
  • Take photos everywhere
  • Watch the ASIMO show in Innoventions
  • Play Xbox Kinect Disneyland Adventures in Innoventions (it's a lot of fun!)
  • At DCA: Attend Animation Class (so great!)
  • Watch "Aladdin" at DCA (sooooooo good!)
  • Both Parks: Ride anything you what without "group consensus"
  • in short, do anything you would be with people, but of YOUR choosing.

You can do anything and everything you do at Disneyland with others, on your own. Enjoy!

I went to Dl by myself once. I was sooo excited! I could do what I wanted when I wanted and eat what I wanted, so I did not plan anything. I got there and forgot what I liked!!!!:rotfl: Of course, I got over it right before it was time to leave.

I love the area with snow white & the water fall. Just walking around without worring about someone else was wonderful. I went on my favorite rides and did a couple of them more then once. I watched part of WOC from the back and front.

Think about what you enjoy or where you were when you thought "I'd really like to do this by myself" and make at least a mental list. Otherwise you might end up like me, knowing what everyone else likes and not knowing what to do.

Went to DLR by myself for 3 days this past year and had a blast!

I was able spend as much time as I wanted in the Disney Gallery, looking at the Disneyland history stuff outside of Great Moments with Mr Lincoln, and shopping.

Also, ride the rides that people in your group don't want to ride. I rode Small World 4 times - once I had my own boat to myself first thing in the morning! - and rode Little Mermaid 5 times - I just love that ride!

I do have to say that the "thrill" rides aren't as fun alone, but they're still fun.

And don't feel awkward riding anything alone - I did for about 2 minutes, but then realized that everyone is too caught up in their own fun to spend time thinking about a single rider :)

I usually get a little bit of me time in the parks when DH and DD nap :) My favorite thing to do is going shopping. I can get about every store in by myself and I love it! I love to compare what they have and pick out things for DD without her around. My next favorite thing would be to just walk around and enjoy the sights!

Have fun!

Oh my goodness, thank you all soooo much for your answers. :D
I'll defiantly be taking tons of pictures, and lots of other things you all suggested.
I'm really happy to hear that the umbrellas are still there. Thanks again!
