Some of you might remember that I went up to KY a couple of weeks ago. It turns out that our timing was perfect to meet my new adopted neice! My sister has been in the adoption process for over a year and got the call to go down to Guatemala to pick up their new daughter about the same time we made it up there. They actually got her on her first birthday and made it back to KY the day before we headed back to FL. Meet Ava.

Unfortunately, while we were gone, our pet snake escaped from her cage. We have yet to find her and b/c the cage is in the garage, we believe it made it outside and is gone for good. So, I had a surprise when I got home from work on Monday. My DW had picked up a new snake at the pet store! So now we have a new family member. It is still nameless, so suggestions are being accepted. It is a boy. Kaa and Sir Hiss are high on the list right now but it is not for sure yet.

Thank you.

Many people do not really like the snakes, but my DDs like them. The DW is OK with them, but is a little timid. She seems to be doing better with this one than the old two we had. This is a ball python and they would rather curl up in a ball than strike you. My old one was a California King that I have had about fourteen years before it passed a couple of months ago. The one that escaped was also a California King that we had for about three years. It had a Mickey Mouse on its head. There is still a remote chance that we can find it, but it is unlikely.

Congratulations! Ava is beautiful, what a sweet face. I'm not a snake person, but I do like the markings on your snake. Are the markings on a snake unique like a finger print?

Our family is growing too. My brother is in the process of adopting a 12 month old little boy. We are having a family dinner this weekend to meet him. It seems to be taking a long time to get him placed in the home, and it has been agonizing slow for my brother and his DW. It will be a wonderful day when the baby is finally home to stay!

Congratulations, she's beautiful! And how lucky she is to have an uncle that's such a great photographer! As for the snake, well, he's nice too. :scared: I hope the other one finds his way home at some point. Will he do ok on the outside (or is that a dumb question, LOL)?

Congratulations, Shifletjl too.

the snake is cute but Ava much cuter;)

The adoption process was longer than expected for my sister. They had at first hoped that she could be here in December or January, but a few things happened to slow everything down and the President of Guatemala almost stopped all adoptions at one point. They would have much rather had here earlier, but it was kinda cool that they got her on her first birthday (which is also the day after her step-son's birthday and the day before my anniversary).

The snake's pattern is pretty much unique, but they all look very similar and do get the patterns similar to thier parents. For example, this one does not have very much yellow on it and was less than half as expensive as the other ones it was with. It would be difficult to tell it apart from other ones with similar colors.

The one that got away will probably be alright outside as long as it avoids lawnmowers and cars. Most of the big birds around here, that would be predators, are more scavangers. This type of snake is not fond of water, so it should be able to avoid the gators. There certainly is plenty of food for it with all of the frogs and lizards around. It is very unlikely that we will find it, but I am going to keep my eye out.

Congrats on your new neice! She is a cutie. Hope to see lots more photos of her as she grows.

And the snake - well I am not a snake fan by any means - BUT I will admit it IS a colorful snake and I am happy you have a new friend in it. :)

I also hope your old friend slithers home soon too. ;)
