Two Nerds Do Disney World - FINAL Update 5/12

Hi Ali! :wave2: I'm joining in and can't wait to read the rest of your TR.

I'm going through reading your other TR's. I love all your pics! You and Lumar look like you have a blast together at DW. I also love your fur babies.

Can't wait to hear more! popcorn::

Saturday 3/1

We woke up at 8am and while Lumar was in the shower I flipped on the weather channel to see what the day would be like: 78 and sunny! :woohoo: There was a major storm traveling the Midwest though, that was scheduled to dump tons of snow on parts of Texas and then head up into the Ohio area. The northeast would be getting lots of rain.

We left the room at 9am. It was such a beautiful day, I was glad we were going to be at Epcot. For some reason I took a lot of pictures of flowers today, so be prepared.

When we arrived, we headed straight for The Land Pavilion. There was a CM at the entrance who said she loved my Darkwing Duck shirt! We got fastpasses for Soarin’ then we ate breakfast at Seasons. We both had French toast which was really good but we still had about 25 minutes before our return time so we left and went over to Figment.

IMG_3067.jpg

No wait (as usual) :yay: so we rode through once, wandered through the Kodak Lab/gift shop for a few, and as we came out of the building I saw this:

IMG_3064.jpg

I was so excited to meet Figment! And of course, he wasn’t really there. There was a sign on the door that said he would be back at 4:30pm. It was like 10am… why bother putting the sign out??

IMG_3062.jpg

We went back to Soarin’ and I have to say that, seriously, this is my favorite ride in all of WDW. I just wish that the line didn’t take so long. Even with FP’s you still have to stand around for like 20 minutes. That kind of sucks, but I’ll deal with it. I was wondering though while we were waiting…you know how they bring you down away from the main line, right before they tell you which arrows to stand on? Why does it look like you’re in a basement? There is no ceiling or decorative cover-ups or anything. Just pipes, wires, and vents  Usually everything in WDW has a purpose, everything is decorated a certain way for a reason, but this one I just can’t figure out.

So anyway, after Soarin’ we walked back towards SSE and walked through the Art of Disney store looking at all the cool stuff we wish we could afford, then went and got in line for SSE. Yes, I said a line. The wait was like 20 minutes! FOR SSE! That’s one reason why I hate it when they rehab rides. But for anyone that hasn’t gotten to ride it yet since the rehab, you’ll be happy to know that they didn’t change any of the scenes except the one at the end where the two kids were in different countries talking to each other through the TV. They eliminated that scene and replaced it with a classroom set-up. The track is much smoother and you can actually hear Judi Dench tell the story. I feel bad for Jeremy Irons. He got jipped IMO because the tracks were so loud before you couldn’t even hear him talking. They added in touch screens to the each car which are kind of annoying because it’s dark in there and the screens are bright, so it kind of has the effect of someone taking a picture with the flash on while riding Haunted Mansion…. AND you’ll also be happy to know that the Rome scene still smells like burnt hotdogs!

After SSE, we stopped for ice cream at the Edy’s shop next to Club Cool and a CM in there also complimented the Darkwing Duck shirt :yay: As we ate our ice cream, we walked towards World Showcase and I noticed a couple of HUGE fish in the lake and a couple of turtles, as well. We watched them a few minutes while we finished eating, then continued our walk. We skipped Canada and France, but stopped in the UK where I got a box of assorted tea for my mom. I hope she likes them. She and my step-dad have tea at least twice a day, but they only drink the American stuff. I hope they like the ones I picked up for them. They had a really cute Bunny teapot that I wanted to pick up for my friend Brandee, who watches my bunnies while we’re gone, but the only one they had was the display, which was chipped.

We kept going and we passed a girl I went to high school with. We played on the volleyball team together but we weren’t close friends or anything – plus I haven’t seen her in like 10 years so I didn’t say anything to her. I just thought it was funny to see someone I knew in Florida. We ended up in Japan – nerd central! Lumar and I bought a couple packs of Pokemon cards, and I also got some Hello Kitty stuff while were there.

We left Japan and went back to Morocco so Lumar could use the bathroom. He’s lactose intolerant and just ate ice cream….. we were there for a while... :scared:

Around 12:30pm we stopped at the American Adventure for lunch. I got a cheeseburger and Lumar got a hotdog, and after eating we continued walking around towards Mexico. WE stopped in Norway and got fastpasses for Maelstrom, then walked through the shops. I was desperate for some lotion – my hands and feet were so dry – and I knew that they sold stuff like that in Norway. I found a blue bottle of lotion that smelled really pretty…but it was FORTY TWO DOLLARS! FOR LOTION?!? Um…no. I’ll suffer for now, thank you very much.

We went over to Mexico and wandered around inside the Plaza de los Amigos for a while but didn’t buy anything. I’m the kind of person that sees something I like, picks it up and walks around with it for a while and then decides not to spend the money on it. I found a cute ceramic turtle and a ceramic bunny that I like but after walking around with them for 20 minutes, I put them both back and we left. :rolleyes1

On our way back to Norway, I stopped and got a strawberry margarita. HOLY MOLY was that thing strong!! :crazy2: Lumar drank most of it for me. (Sorry, Buzz, I tried!)

IMG_3070.jpg

After Maelstrom, we went back to Japan for more Pokemon cards (do you believe me now when I say we’re nerds??) and Lumar said he was hungry. It was only 5:30 and our Biergarten ressie wasn’t until 6:55pm. I was feeling pretty hungry myself and we both knew we weren’t going to make it until 6:55pm so we cancelled our ressie and went over to Nine Dragons instead which was open despite the fact that it was supposed to closed for refurb. It was really busy in there and at that point I turned to Lumar and said that we should have checked with them before canceling our dinner reservation. I know, my timing is impeccable  They were able to seat us since we were only two people and our food was so good. The service was perfect, too, and we were really happy we came here. We ordered the Pot Stickers for an appetizer and we both had General Tso’s as our entrée. Sorry, once again, I forgot pictures. Don’t worry, I have some food porn towards the end of the week.

After dinner, we walked back towards the entrance to World Showcase and stopped in one of the stores there (Gateway Gifts or something like that)

IMG_3068.jpg

and then we left around 7:30pm. We had wanted to stay for Illuminations but we were feeling kind of tired so we headed back to the bus.

IMG_3077.jpg

Since I couldn’t wear my regular Crocs, I wore the Crocs Flip-Flops instead and since I hadn’t worn those since October my feet weren’t used to them and they killed my toes. They were all swollen and red, and guess what? Yeah, another blister. I went down to the gift shop, Jackson Square, and picked up some band-aids, Neosporin type stuff, and some lotion (yay!!) Went back to the room and I tended to my poor feet while watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets then went to bed around 12 when the movie was over.

Wow! Thanks for going back and reading my old TR's! We had a lot of fun on all of our trips even when things weren't going as planned. Something about being in WDW just makes everything better :goodvibes

Isn't cool that CMs will compliment you on your Disney clothes!!!!!

Lumar should know better, but then again...Ice Cream is so good.....Morocco restroom...not one of my faves...:confused3

Japan.......:thumbsup2

I'm looking forward to trying at Nine Dragons once it's remodeled.

42 dollars.......for lotion:scared1:

Another blister? What? Bad Croc Mojo.

Enjoying your report :thumbsup2 . I learned my lesson one trip to WDW..the trip of the blisters..now I ALWAYS bring Moleskin..live and learn :) .

great update and pics.

:sad2: you could not drink your margarita. They are really strong but oh so good. I had the fiesta.

I was a total geek at DLR last month. I wore my socks with my Mickey crocs. I had a good excuse though - it was chilly!

I'll wear socks with them if I can wear jeans but with shorts...I just can't bring myself to do it :confused3

Sunday 3/2
We woke up at 7:20 – yep, early today cuz we had a breakfast reservation at Crystal Palace 8:20am. Weather for today: Sunny and 80! :sunny: Sadly, it took us (Lumar) half an hour to get ready so we didn’t leave the room until 7:50am. And of course, the one and only time we actually had to wait for a Disney Bus had to be today…We saw FOUR Animal Kingdom busses, and 2 MGM…er, sorry Hollywood Studios busses, before we finally got an MK bus – at 8:30!! By the time we had our bag checked, shoved our way through the mob of people, and checked in at Crystal Palace, it was 8:40am. Not as late as we have been for some ADR’s in the past, but I was so mad! Can we ever be on time?? :confused3

So anyway, we checked in, waited about 5 minutes and then we were called in. As we were sitting down, Piglet and Eeyore were leaving our section, then they had to do that stupid parade, then Tigger finally came by.

IMG_3079.jpg

IMG_3080.jpg

Stupid parade…..:sad2:

As we were getting up to leave, Pooh waved goodbye. Seriously, I really liked eating breakfast at the character meals because not a whole lot of people knew about them…the characters weren’t rushed and were able to come back to your table if you missed them. Not so much anymore. I’d rather save the money and have a good dinner, rather than rush to get out for breakfast in the morning. And that’s sad because breakfast is my favorite meal.

After we left CP, we headed into Adventureland. Here’s a view of CP from the bridge:

IMG_3085.jpg

And the first thing you see as you cross over into Adventureland:

IMG_3083.jpg

IMG_3086.jpg

IMG_3087.jpg

The first thing we did was the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. We had never been up there before and it was pretty cool! A bit too high up for my taste, and I hate it that people come running up the stairs behind you and rush you along, rather than just passing you. But I got some cool pics and it was something new for us:

IMG_3089.jpg

Space from the top of the treehouse!
IMG_3093.jpg

After the Treehouse, we went to Pirates then stopped at the Arribas Brothers where I (finally, after 3 trips of wanting) bought a crystal Simba and a crystal Thumper! Yes, I’m a girl, and a nerd…I like stuff like this! :lovestruc

We headed into Frontierland and stopped at Pecos Bill’s so SOMEONE (not me) could use the bathroom…I wish I was kidding when I said we were there for half an hour. And he didn’t even have any dairy!

We finally left and went and got fastpasses for Splash. Our return time was 1:15pm and it was only noon (man, these Disney Days go by FAST!) so we walked over to Liberty Square and rode the Haunted Mansion then we went back to Adventureland for lunch at El Pirata y El Perico. We never got to eat here before because it’s only open seasonally and apparently May, October, and December are not the right seasons. I got the 2 Taco’s meal and Lumar had the Taco Salad meal. Messy but YUMMY! I wish they were open more often! Sorry, no pics! I was too busy eating my food to remember to take pictures of it! We were still kind of hungry after we ate though…not SUPER hungry, but in need of something small and snackish…. :scratchin

Here’s a random shot of the Tiki Room for ya:
IMG_3098.jpg

We went back to Splash and got to ride in the front! This ride it so fun! I’m glad we didn’t get soaking wet though. That’s an uncomfortable feeling.

After Splash, we hopped the train and took it into Toontown. Lumar grabbed a banana and I picked up a yogurt from the Fruit Market thingy next to the Barnstormer. We walked into Tomorrowland and got fastpasses for Space at 3pm…the return time was 5pm. Since we had some time to kill, we jumped on the TTA - I know this isn’t the most thrilling attraction in WDW, but I love it. When we got off of that, we went over to Buzz which had a 10 minute wait. Neither one of us is very good at this game, but we don’t have a lot practice. Lumar stilled whooped me: 62,600 to 18,100. :guilty:

After both of those, we still had about an hour before our return time for Space so we walked back across the Hub and into Adventureland. The wait for Pirates was 25 minutes and we didn’t feel like waiting so we walked back to Tomorrowland (no wonder my feet hurt so bad!) and even though we were about 15 minutes early, the CM let us onto Space anyway. When we got off, I wanted some ice cream so we went back to Fantasyland where I got a sundae from Mrs. Potts. SO FREAKIN' GOOD!!!! And of course, Lumar got one too. Don’t worry, he regrets it later on….:Stir:

We got back on the train, rode it all the way around once, and then got off at Main Street. We decided to give Pirates another try and this time it said only 5 minute wait! How sad that strangers can ruin my excitement about a ride by disobeying the rules. How hard is this? NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!!!

After Pirates, we went back to Liberty Square and got wristbands for Extra Magic Hours, walked onto Haunted Mansion one more time, and then walked back to Fantasyland. We picked up some of the secret pin packs and sat down at a bench to open then. It just so happens that we had a great view of Wishes, even though from our view point, half of the fireworks were on our left and half of them were on our right. It was kind of weird to see them this way, but kind of cool at the same time. Not the same effect as sitting in front of the castle, but since we never saw them this way before it was something new we experienced.

This one’s kinda blurry but still pretty:
IMG_3124.jpg

Since SpectroMagic was winding it’s way up through the center of the park, we went back through Liberty Square and into Frontierland where we wandered around the Pin Traders store for a while until Spectro was over and the crowd on Main Street started thinning out. We left the park around 10pm and hit the sack at 10:30.

I don't think they had intended on it staying at WDW. So they probably just did a "for now" kind of thing. I think it was supposed to go when all the other California stuff went. It is now just too popular and if they take it out, we will rebel!

Purdy flower!
After Maelstrom, we went back to Japan for more Pokemon cards (do you believe me now when I say we’re nerds??)
MORE???????? Do you collect them or do you really play? The boys used to collect them. I don't think they knew how to play the game. Now they have a big box of them. They gave them up like 7 YEARS AGO!!!! You aren't nerds, you are just kids!!!:rotfl:

LOVED all the pics. I have to go check out your next update.

YA!! What she said! I totally agree with you. Some people just don't feel the need to follow rules. We should get one of those really cheap cameras with a really bright flash on it. Just to keep for "just in case" in our purses. If someone feels the need to use their flash on the ride, pull out ole reliable and say "pardon me" to the rule breaker and FLASH THEM!! Say see, this is why we don't use flash on this ride, it is rude to other guests.

Just a thought!

I experience road rage as well. The therapy is helping.

No spectro?? You flew through that day. Did you get Photopass pics?

So, when you going again????

I have to laugh at your bathroom travels. Whenever my DH and I go anywhere I always joke that we do a restroom tour of the park. It seems he can't pass one without going in! At least they are clean at Disney.

Your pictures are great, and I love hearing from a fellow nerd.

Missed us by a fraction. My brother in law in Cleveland got 20 inches! Yuck!

Yeah, CT got a lot of rain because of that storm but it was still warm up here from what I recall…in the 50’s I think. I felt so bad for all of those people that got hit with that snow because they hadn’t even finished digging themselves out of the LAST storm.

There is no wait because the ride isn't fun anymore. They need to go back to the original.

It’s fun to me!! “im-AAAAAAAAA-gin-AAAA-tion, im-AAAAAAAAA-gin-AAAA-tion!!! A dream can be a dream come true! With just one spark….from me and you!” Come on! Just as good as the IASW theme!! :dance3:

To mess with your head!!:confused3
Pretty much… :sad1: .

I don't think they had intended on it staying at WDW. So they probably just did a "for now" kind of thing. I think it was supposed to go when all the other California stuff went. It is now just too popular and if they take it out, we will rebel!

Well, it’s time to fix it! It bothers me!

You should have said hello!!
Eh, I didn’t really like her that much…..

Thanks for sharing!!!
Anytime! :thumbsup2

This is me too. It's called Shoppers Remorse. Now I don't wait. I just go buy it.

I haven’t graduated to that yet….I always walk around with it the first time around, and then on our second day at each park, if I remember it and I still want it, I’ll get it.

You tried, that's what matters. I'm glad to hear Strawberry was just as bad as Mango!

So gross :crazy2:

Purdy flower!
Thanks! I love taking pics of the flowers! They’re always so pretty in WDW

Oh it gets worse….it's mainly Lumar...he insists on buying them. He knows how to play, I have no idea. He insists that we are going to learn to play really well so we can play against each other. I say it ain't gonna happen. And yes, we are kids…but NERDY kids! :rotfl2:

LOVED all the pics. I have to go check out your next update.

Thanks! Hope you’re enjoying my TR so far!

Your pictures are great, and I love hearing from a fellow nerd.

It’s terrible isn't it? We’ve been there enough times to know which bathrooms are OK to use and which we prefer to stay away from. We don’t have a rating system like Jordan…mental notes serve the purpose. My brother is just as bad. The year I went Lumar, his brother, and MY brother…we didn’t get anything done because they had to check out every single bathroom we came across. By the end of the week, they were checking them off on the park maps so they knew which ones they went to already! We hit EVERY bathroom in AK and MK!

Nope, not you!!!

thanks for the encouragement! :rotfl:

Why is the parade stupid? I haven't ever been here so I don't have a clue.

Because all the kids get up and follow the characters around the restaurant, while the Winnie the Pooh song plays, and all the parents are waving their green napkins in the air to make it look like trees in the Hundred Acre Wood. It’s cute if you’ve got little kids, but to me it just creates noise and havoc. The servers can’t walk around to take care of their tables because there are characters and mass amounts of small children running amok. And they do this at the Ohana breakfast too but the walkways are bigger so it’s not as crowded feeling…and there is no napkin waving.

A girl in a tank top and shorts??:confused3

you’re silly! I meant the pretty view, not the girl who was underdressed! It was still chilly in the morning, even if it was going to be 80 later in the day

Isn't it neat in there. I so want a treehouse!!
Right now, ANY kind of house would be OK with me. As long as it’s mine and none of my relatives live with me

Again, thanks for sharing!:thumbsup2
You’re welcome!

I like that idea! That’s a teensy bit nicer than my idea which is to fake a sneeze and accidentally knock their camera out of their hands into the Pirate Water. I have really bad road rage too….everyone should drive like me and then there would be no problems! :rotfl2:

No spectro?? You flew through that day. Did you get Photopass pics?
No we didn’t watch it tonight but we come back at the end of week. Maybe we watched it then….. And yes, that day did go by quickly. And yes we have PP Pics but I haven’t dug out the CD yet…. I’ll find it now…

So, when you going again????

funny you should ask. I spent yesterday doing all kinds of financial research to see if we could swing it again in October for MNSSHP, but we really need to move into our own place so that’s taking precedence. If we can find a place, and still have time/money to go back in October then we will, but if not, it will have to wait until next year. :sad1:

Great TR! My brothers (and me to an extent! ;) ) love Pokemon too! They always go insane at Mitsukoshi. :hyper: I love those stuffed pokemon too, but they're so expensive for something so little! :confused3

My boyfriend is the worst when it comes to card games...and video games...and board games.... :rotfl2: He collects all this stuff and then none of it ever gets used. But at least he's happy, right??

I don't think you two are nerdy at all. You both seem fun. Can't wait to read more!
Well thanks! but I warn you, it's going to get worse.... :rotfl:

Our family isn't really into Character Meals...but different strokes....

Do NOT come between a man and his private toilet time.....:rolleyes1 Are you sure he didn't take a magazine with him.;)

That was one loooooong day....

14 times and not once has El pirata been open....lucky you. Sounds like it was good.

I liked the parade. I thought it was cute but can be annoying. I love CP.

Nice pics and great update.

I love CP too! The food is great but it's just too crowded in there now. And plus we have been there on the last 3 trips so maybe we'll look into other places for our next trip. IDK....I'm sure I'll change my mind again :upsidedow

I used to like them but I guess I'm getting over it now....

Trust me, I don't come between him and his TT!! :rotfl: The longer he stays in there, the more time I have to write detailed trip notes! :thumbsup2

Really? It seemed like it flew by when we were there. We did A LOT of walking that day though...back and forth.... That's one thing I hate about MK... You get a FP for something with a return time of 2 hours later but in 2 hours you've walked all the way to other side. The WDWRR needs to add another stop in Adventureland and one in Tomorrowland to make my life easier :lmao:

Wow, so what exactly does seasonal mean?? Maybe it's only open in March?? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Oh my gosh your bunnies are adorable! I have two of my own - the black and white dude in the picture and a beautiful brown girl. Our pre-trip routine also includes dropping off bunnies at my parent's house!

You're not alone on the Croc blisters. I wore mine on a trip to Las Vegas and got a huge blister on the bottom of my foot. That was my time to try out the Crocs before wearing them on our Disney trip. I ended up taking my sneakers to wear most of the time. I'm glad I did the Vegas test.

Has Lumar tried taking Lactaid tablets before eating dairy? My DH carries them with him everywhere and pops one before eating ice cream and even creamy salad dressing. They help him a lot and we don't have so many long bathroom stops! I even carry a couple for him since men can be so forgetful! Enjoying your report!:)
