This really bothers me for some reason, lol. In my British Literature class I discovered, via syllabus, that we were going to read some Shakespeare by the end of the first semester...I pathetically got very excited since I am a huge Shakespeare fan. However, it's now reaching the end of the first semester and here we are...reading Romeo and Juliet. Shoot me please? This is my least favorite tragedy with A Midsummer Night's Dream being my least favorite comedy and if A Midsummer didn't exist, R&J would be my least favorite play overall! I can't stand it. It's not one of Shakespeare's best, it doesn't play up Shakespeare's best features as a writer, and it has no where near the substance displayed in some of his other plays. (not to mention it's overrated, cliche, and has been told a million and one times through every medium on earth). This is the only Shakespeare play we are reading in this class since it isn't a Shakespeare course. This is the play we are being exposed to. I read R&J when I was a freshman in high school...this Brit. class is an upperlevel course in college...seriously, R&J?
Sorry, it's just really frustrating me that we aren't working on a more exciting play...such as King Lear or Twelfth Night <3 lol.
Anything about your classes just really annoy you more than you think it should? lol.
