Two households, both alike in immaturity...

The DiCaprio version is entertaining...but as a Shakespeare fanatic...I was not a fan. lol. It wasn't at all accurate and sort of ridiculous in parts. It's been a while since I've seen it. I think it works as a "parody" in its own round-a-bout sort of way tho. The 1968 version is very accurate and a good movie to watch if you want to watch a good R&J movie.

That scene in the '68 version is nothing. Trust me, if you watch cable tv you've probably seen worse lol.

Billy Brain, I give you much props for not only reading Julius Caesar, but for also liking it. I will admit I have not read it...and the main reason is because I've heard from not only general Shakespeare readers but also from Shakespeare scholars that it's not exactly the most interesting play out there if you catch my drift lol. I feel compelled to read it tho just to give it a fair chance lol.

We're doing Julius Ceasar this year (possibly, as it's American Lit).

I wouldn't think you'd be reading Shakespeare in an American Lit. But sometimes you get those teachers/profs who try to incorporate their favs into the class even if it doesn't fit lol.

The Merchant of Venice is pretty good. I enjoyed it. I love Portia! In high school I took a Shakespeare course and wrote a paper on the women in his plays (since they seem to have a dominant light in a lot of the plays) and Portia was one of the females I chose to write about. Some fun quotes come from that play! At least in my opinion. It's not a favorite of mine tho.

Much Ado About Nothing is definitely up there for me! I absolutely LOVE the Benedick/Beatrice relationship and I have a feeling that when I find the man I'm going to marry, we're going to have that relationship. Just because I'm attracted to men like Benedick and I'm very sarcastic such as Beatrice lol. A good version of this play is the movie produced by Kenneth Branagh (he also acts as Benedick). I absolutely LOVE Kenneth Branagh. He is an AMAZING Shakespearean actor. If you don't know who I'm talking about - think back to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets movie...he was the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in that one ;)

Macbeth and Hamlet hold a different spot in my heart. Hamlet especially. I consider Hamlet to be my favorite tragedy - even tho it's kind of over-analyzed - I still love the play to death. And Macbeth is just...Macbeth. I could probably recite 2/3 of that play from memory. I love so many quotes and I've read it so many times.

So we finished R&J in my class - a two day discussion. lol. Not complaining. haha. We are reading Dr. Faustus next - another play I've already read but I like it. I'm a fan of Marlowe - even tho I'm such a diehard Shakespeare fan (Marlowe and Shakespeare are rival writers - it's like the Yankees/Red Sox rival of Elizabethan literature lol).

I read Romeo and Juliet last year and totally loved it.
Then I did Macbeth the same year.
Liked it but not as good as R&J.

And yeah my teachers all do things that completely bug me.
Guess it's just the nature of all teachers alive!

i hate reading plays. i prefer to encounter them the way they were meant to be. seen. not read.
