Two HotT College Chicks and a Cowboy Take on the World

Thank you Cheryl. I needed a short reprieve.:hug:
NurseBabe, I've told you this privately in PM's but I'll restate it here even at the risk of incurring the wrath of all your anxious audience members: do this at your pace, still spend time with your family, still post on your regular threads, still do your regular chat sessions. This should be FUN for you, not feel like a J-O-B. :hug: :hug:

b/c when you're a hotT college chick, things like this are everyday occurrences. Lisa, I guess we taught her well.:thumbsup2

ok, I'm outta here. Working diligently.

Alright, nursey! Stop dragging your Crocs and get a move on with the next installment. Some of us have a limited attention span, y'know.

...what were we talking about again???

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The plan is to meet PJ and the Goofydad & KAMommy family at Chef Mickey's at 7:30 a.m. for a fantastic Disney dining experience.

The night before, I approach the OKW counter and inquire as to how I might reach CM's at 0730.

The castmember, Matthew, asks "Do you have a car here?"

"Gee, why didn't I think of that?!? Thanks for the info. Have a goog night!"

Actually, I think my exact response was "Um, no", an incredulous laugh may or may not have preceded the "um no"

He then acts a a little nervous. I think it was his first day on the job and this is his first guest dilemma. He doesn't want to make it nonmagical.

"Well," he begins, and his voice cracks. "Um, Er, let me think. Chef Mickey's? At the Contemporary?"

"No, the OTHER Chef Mickey's. The new one they just built by the tollbooth on the Beeline expressway."

But I'm nice, and I patiently reply, "Yes. Chef Mickey's. At the Contemporary. At 7:30 a.m."

"And you don't have a vehicle here?":rolleyes:

I think I'm having deja-vu.

I feel like taking his hands into mine and using my soothing mommy voice to say "It's ok. We'll get there. Forget I approached you. Go back to your computer. We're fine." But really, how can he learn from that? How will he be able to help the next guest during their nonmagical moment of need?

"Ok." He says with a heavy sigh. "You can take the bus."

"To where? I know it doesn't go straight to Chef Mickey's, which is at the Contemporary, btw."

"Right." He looks at me a little skeptically. It was as though he were surprised I knew that information. Now, he is probably thinking that I am one of those mystery shoppers about to turn in a scathing report. I notice little beads of sweat forming on his brow.

"You will need to go to Downtown Disney, and then wait for a bus that is going to the Contemporary. AND you need to get started early. Please allow yourself 1 1/2 hours to make it to your breakfast on time."

Ahem, allow me to clarify. "So, I need to wake up at 5:00 a.m. and begin riding buses at 6:00 a.m. to reach my destination by 7:30 a.m., which is 10 minutes away?"

"Yes."

"Can't you just give me a ride in the morning?"

He gives me a blank look. I think I scared him. He doesn't want a nonfavorable review from the uninformed mystery shopper, but he shore as heck ain't giving the crazy lady a ride in his vehicle.

"Just joking Matthew. Thank you for the information. Have a magical night."

I think I threw him off with that response. B/C he knows he's supposed to say that to me, but I beat him to the Disney punch. So he just replies "Ok. thanks." nervous laugh.

I look at Mr. Trollop. He knows the look. Babynurse is not thrilled. She does not want to get up at the crack of dawn on vacation. Not even for the Big Cheese himself.

I relate the story to Mr. T. He says there has to be a better way. We are smart people, we'll figure something out.

(FYI, PJ can't pick us up. Hollywood has to be at work by a certain time, and if she comes back to get us, we will be late for the breakfast. And PJ & Hollywood already said we were ideal Disney guest, so being late just won't do. Besides, I hate being late. ALMOST never happens)

Dh and I wake up at a normalish time and walk down towards the buses. We know full well we will not be riding said buses, but not zackly sure what we will be riding in as yet.

Then Mr. Trollop has an idea.:idea: A taxi! Wow! He is brilliant. I mean whoever thought of a TAXI? :blush: (not Matthew, let me tell ya)

Dh actually sees one out front and walks up to the driver and says "You picking somebody up?"

@@. No, he just likes to park there in the no parking zone, for the fun of it.

Taximan says "Where you wanna go?"

"Chef Mickey's"

"At the Contemporary?" No, the new one by the tollbooth on the Beeline expressway. But what can I say? I like that taximan feels the need to clarify.

"If my party doesn't show in 5 minutes, I'll take you."

Of course, his party shows up at that exact moment.

Dh says "Hey man, can you hook us up with something?"

Taximan replies, "Let me call my friend, see if he can swing by."

Two minutes later we are on our way to Chef Mickey's (the one at the Contemporary). So, this new taximan is a tad late for his next pick up. Are we really to blame for that?:rolleyes1

We arrive at our destination before 7:30 and are actually the first of our party of 7 to arrive. We kick back (literally) by the windows and watch the sunrise.

IMG_1905.jpg
IMG_1904.jpg

Next to arrive was BabyPJ. She brought Mr. Trollop a present. It's an official WDW birthday button. Let me tell you, he was thrilled. Beyond belief.:thumbsup2

I think he actually contemplated NOT wearing the bday button. Ha! Now that is laughable. Notice the next picture that he's in. hee hee hee.

Also, notice the t-shirt. Not quite normal cowboy wear, is it? It's the closest thing to a Disney tourist shirt dh will wear. I'm very persuasive...just sayin''

PJ asks if I have checked in. I wrinkle my nose at her.

"ME? I'm on vacation."

Man, that Peej can roll her eyes pretty darn goog.

The last of our crew arrives. Practically Normal Patrick, Classy Cherie, Kutie Katie, and the other birthday boy, Awesome Adam.

We did brief "Hi. How are you's?" and proceeded to the hostess desk...

Just caught up a little and wanted to comment before I continue......
You do not look like a hotT college chick in this picture. You look about 12. How do you do that? Lasers? Exfoliants? Chemical peels? Whatever it is...it's amazing!
He keeps hollering and screaming and his laughter is causing me to have the giggles. AND it makes me miss my own kiddos.:guilty: mommy guilt is creeping back.
How does the mommy guilt get to us when we should be having a great adult time? I'm guilty of this too!
We have now added to Mr. Depp's retirement fund by buying way too many souvenirs for me. heh heh. I mean dd.:rolleyes1
Did you know that Mr. Depp, being the good son he is, bought his mama a farm right outside Lexington? And he visits her there?

OK....got more catching up to do. Great job, nursebabe!

We let the GoDaddy family get their pic first in front of the giant plate. PJ and I think the Imagineers dropped the ball on this one. Is this the best background they could come up with? A plate?!?! Come on. Peej and I named off at least ten things better than a plate. And shouldn't Mickey at least be on the plate? Anyhoo (that was for you UtahM), we join the GoDaddy's for a pic and then take our seats.

The server asks us if we'd like some OJ or coffee.

But, Cherie bucks the system. She asks for a Diet Coke. Add her to the list of people I love. Not only does the have the cutest southern accent, and is one of the friendliest people I know, but she orders a Diet Coke for breakfast. She has inspired me!! So, I speak up just as the server was about to walk away. "Ooooo, can I have a Diet Coke too?" Breakfast of champions!:thumbsup2

We all stand up to grab some grub, but GoDaddy has offered to stay behind and watch the purses. Oko, men, take a lesson. There is something very endearing about a guy who is willing to stay and wait by himself, at a large table, with 3 purses. Plus, you really never know when the pressure finally gets to Mickey and he decides "Screw these tourists and their magical freakin' moments. I'm grabbin the first 3 purses I see, and makin' a run for it."

But we had nothing to be worried about. We were secure in the knowledge that GoDaddy would never let that happen.

PJ and I proceed to the buffet. Did you know there are 3 different size plates to choose from? Not only that, but some are colored and some are plain.

I turn to my co-hort. "Which one would you suggest?" But I can see by the look on her face, that she's clueless. It wasn't like I asked her which wine would complement the beef tartar.

"Just get one." Peej says:sad2:

"Gee, I wish I knew somebody who worked here. Not just at WDW, but here. At Chef Mickey's. The one at the Contemporary. Not the new one by the tollbooth...."

Did I ever tell you PJ can really roll her eyes?

I got a Mickey head waffle b/c EVERYBODY knows that you have not experienced Disney unless you've had a Mickey waffle. It's almost like it's a, gee...I don't know... a rite of passage, maybe?

Awesome Adam filled us in on all of his uber cool bday happenings while at WDW. Cherie chatterd in her uber cool southern belle accent, and for some reason, I could not shut up, and I felt like I was talking rather loudly. I tried to rein it in d/t the fact that GoDaddy & KAMommy met an entirely different babynurse in Knoxville.

In fact, GoDaddy and I actually made a contraband candy run at the Tar-jay back in May. (along with our accomplices Adam and Caleb...or was it Ethan? I have so many kids, I can't recall:rolleyes: ) I think I behaved like a perfect lady, or at least this is the memory my subconscious is going with. GoDaddy, if this is not the case, please don't tell me. It might damage my fragile psyche.:upsidedow

Of course, the characters made their rounds and it felt odd not to be grabbing the autograph books and thrusting small children in front of unsuspecting Disney characters to snap pics. But I lived vicariously through Kutie Katie and Awesome Adam. I even got dh to pose with Mickey. Told ya, I'm persuasive.

IMG_1910.jpg

We had two bday boys, so everybody at Chef Mickey's got to celebrate with the birthday napkin waving. Mr. Trollop was thrilled. beyond belief. again. twice in one day. Look, he's even going to participate. See bbn=persuasive.;)
IMG_1915.jpg

AND the bday boys got birthday cupcakes. AND bday placemats. Katie wanted a placemat too. Mr. Trollop gave her his. Believe me, he was COMPLETELY fine with that, and he understands the whole "He got one, I want one" sibling thing. wait. no he doesn't, b/c our children are perfect, like their mother.:angel:

Hi Lexi!

No, I did not know Mr. Depp visits Lexington. I knew he grew up in Owensboro, but did not realize he still frequents the bluegrass state. Hey, if you hear he's in town, my phone number is.... hee hee hee!

I look 12 or act 12? :confused3 lol p.s. thank you, you're very sweet!

I know the mommy guilt was brutal, what's a goog momma to do ?

one more post, and then I'm wrapping up this Chef Mickey's dining experience.

Hi, Elisabeth, great report, thanks for sharing!!
I'll have to make it to Chef Mickey's someday :lmao:

Actually, I do believe I have a dinner date there in September. I'll keep an eye out for PJ!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does she know the TFW signal??

Now, technically Florida is a southern state, but I've been told that anything from Orlando south isn't really "southern". If they are a southern state, then you would think they would know how to make great biscuits and gravy. the biscuits weren't too bad, but Mr. T and GoDaddy can back me up on this one, the gravy was in one word...unedible.:scared: I was soooo disappointed. I LOVE comfort food. Biscuits and gravy is (are?) way up on my list, but Mr. Trollop and I have high standards when it comes to southern cookin'. His grandmother is one of the best cooks I have ever had the pleasure of dining with. She grew up deep in KY on a farm with lots of siblings. She was in charge of cooking. My mouth is watering right now thinking about her fried potatoes, fried okra, beef & noodles, vegetable soup. If it ain't fried and slathered in lard or butter, it's not worth eating in her opinion. yum-my. OH, and don't get me started on her desserts.

Also, my mom used to make us a big breakfast on Saturday mornings. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausage, and yup, biscuits and gravy. I may have to interrupt this TR to go make some right now.

Maybe my standards really are too high in the gravy department. Oko, I will openly admit it. I have high gravy standards. There. I said it. Deal with it and move on.

Back to CM's. I made Peej go back with me to the buffet. I was still hungry. We skipped, the "real" food and headed straight for the sweet stuff.

channeling Homer Simpson..."doughhhhhnuutss" Krispy Kremes, in fact. Oh, and brownies. I think I have stumbled on to the perfect breakfast combination....Diet Coke and Krispy Kremes? PJ? why were we laughing so hard at the brownie counter? I don't recall. It probably wasn't funny.

I sit back down and take a bite of the Krispy Kreme expecting ecstasy, but sadly this was not the case. Day old donut. I promise I'm not a picky eater. I eat practically anything and anywhere. Maybe my lack of sleep was causing my taste buds to be grouchy. Or maybe I was expecting the hot fresh, melt in your mouth donuts that are sold at a local mom and pop donut shop. That place is of the devil, I tell ya. They lure you in with their aroma of freshly baked apple fritters, bearclaws, creme filled, custard filled, glazed, frosted, and most importantly chocolate covered. My favorite is the chocolate covered-creme filled combo. So fresh the chocolate is almost melting off *sigh*
3.gif

Ooopps, sorry. Where was I? Fine, I will admit this too. I have high donut standards. My name is Elisabeth and I'm a donut snob. Happy?

The brownie was actually truly scrumptious, truly truly scrumptious..(sing it with me) I snapped a pic before I inhaled it and washed it down with a little Diet Coke. of course.
IMG_1912.jpg

All in all it was a very pleasant meal. The girls bonded over husbands, kids, Disney. The boys bonded over jobs, their perfect wives, and UT football. The kids? I don't know if they bonded or not, but it was fun to experience part of WDW through the eyes of a child. I really was missing my own babies, and Katie and Adam were a great fix.

The plate picture turned out quite nice, but we all decided to pass. I guess our picture ended up at the bottom of file 13, by days end.

However, we had to get a group photo. Who knew this would be a dilemma? Since, we all wanted to be in the picture, we had to find somebody to actually take it. GoDaddy saved the day again. He found a CM milling around who agreed to play photographer. Actually there were 3 or 4 of them appearing to be very busy, but I"m not sure zackly what they were doing.:confused3

I think Hollywood rubbed off on me. Look at that pose:sad2: dh probably pinched me. That would be soooo like him. Right before the camera clicks, pinch! Katie and Adam were so cute, when the guy would say "Say cheese.."
They would holler "NIPS!" or "BURGER!"

IMG_1917.jpg

After a promise to meet the GoDaddy family for a UT football game this fall, we left their lovely company. (Well, Peej, didn't make that promise. I don't think football ranks high on her priority list.) They were headed to Epcot.

We were headed to MGM. Where PJ is in for the thrill of a lifetime...the Tower of Terror.
3.gif

p.s. Patrick, Cherie, and/or PJ feel free to add anything of interest or anything I forgot, but please WHATEVER you do, don't tell "the" story. Please. Pretty please. with sugar (and chocolate) on top.

Hi Marita! :wave:

actually PJ went back to college. She has to go live a real life now. Have a nice life Peej! :hug:

you know the more I think of it, the more I think dh did pinch me before they snapped that pic. Look at how I'm standing, almost like somebody startled me. Such a little smartypants.

P.S. Twink: Do you see the matching GoDaddy family tshirts. Notice, they are not matchy matching, b/c that would be just plain crazy.:rotfl:

Wow! A lot of quote-worthy comments in this post...

1. I had this very same discussion with PJ about Florida's "southerness" (especially Central and South Florida as you said) in relation to crawdad eating.

2. In my last five trips to WDW, I have never, ever been able to find decent B&G on Disney property at a Disney restaurant. To show how bad Disney's B&G is, I even got some at the McDonald's near All Star Sports one morning just so I could have some that were at least tolerable. It is a huge disappointment especially for those folks who live in parts of the country where B&G aren't as readily accessible and that is one of their few chances to eat it. This also seems to be the common view on the DIS's Restaurants board when this topic comes up there.

3. is/are -- either one in this case is possible, depending upon your meaning. If you were referring to the B&G dish itself, "is" is what you would want to use. If you were referring to biscuits in general and gravy in general being high on your list, "are" is what you would want to use. Thus endeth the lesson.

4. Are you sure your DH's grandmother isn't my maternal grandmother? :confused: Except for the Kentucky (for him) vs. central Missouri (for me) thing, it sounds like the same person. This is one reason I still make sure to get to Grandma's house at least once a month for lunch during my workweek.

5. (interrupt the trip TR): Me too. Either that or get some in the morning.

6. You should have high gravy standards! :thumbsup2 If you ever find yourself in the KC area, "The Corner Cafe" in Kansas City and also in Riverside and "The Big Biscuit" in Independence have excellent, excellent, B&G. You will NOT be disappointed at any of those places unless you order the 1/2 serving of B&G and then you will be disappointed that you didn't order the full serving. (Oh, and more hidden, the cafeteria in the United States Courthouse in downtown KC also has excellent B&G but most people don't find their way into the courthouse very often.) As far as gravy itself goes, Stroud's here in KC cannot be beat but they are only open for dinner and weekend lunch so no B&G at Stroud's.

7. Never identified them as Krispy Kreme's before. Wonder if that is a new vendor. Either way, sadly, this is another area I have always found lacking at Chef Mickey's (though good pastries can definitely be found at WDW -- just not in Chef Mickey's apparently).

8. I wish I could sing it with you. I do know all the words but people make fun of me when I sing showtunes. :mad:

9. Actually, I think P&J may have made that promise. Or at least she thinks she did. (shh!) I'm pretty sure there is a whole set of posts on the DIS where she said she agreed to go to a football game with you and then discussing said football game.

1. I am sure he did. 100% sure in fact.
2. I did notice. It is important to toe that fine line that is right in front of just plain crazy.

I like hearing the snarky voices in your head. Glad you had the breakfast of champions (diet coke and anything with chocolate. Or sprinkles. Or chocolate and sprinkles.)

RE: Good pastries at WDW... Main St. Bakery - apple turnover.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excellent job, E! I almost felt like I was there! Oh wait, I was... A few things about our Chef Mickey meal.
Actually we were at Old Key West (New Lock East) so we *probably* would have given y'all a ride too that morning. Probably wouldn't have charged you much more than that fancy-shmancy taxi. Just sayin'... But you did beat us there. For what it's worth, all parties were on-time for the breakfast.
Re: Cherie's accent -
I have a Southern accent too. Except it's not really southern Southern. I've only been living here 20 years, but I've picked some of it up. 20 years is long enough to shake my Damn Yankee status, I know, but I'm in it for the long haul. "Damn Yankee" means something different than the mere "Yankee" - a Damn Yankee is one who chooses to stay in the South. But my kids are at least 2nd Generation True Southroners (sic), so there's at least hope for them.
The biscuits and gravy at Chef Mickey are pretty heinous. Nothing like back home. (The best B&G here are 411 Diner in Maryville & Pete's in downtown Knoxville, in my opinion) The only thing that I really like about Chef Mickey over the other breakfast restaurants is their breakfast pizza, and that they seem to have a better selection of fresh fruit. But, we tend to hit Chef Mickey late in our vacation, so I tend to eat just fruit the last few days at breakfast anyway because I've usually overeaten at every other meal up to that point...
I kind of felt bad about splitting from you guys after breakfast. Before we left for WDW I know I had told you we were probably going to be doing Studios that day. But then Adam started the planning (it was his birthday trip, after all) and we ended up doing Studios the day before. Sorry. A pox on me. I'm just a Damn Yankee.
There is a silver lining to the cloud though. As we were walking back to our rental in the Contemporary parking, we saw a Lamborghini Gallardo in the valet lot. It was pumpkin orange, and if there's any one car in this world that could pull of that color successfully, it'd be a Gallardo. Yes I drooled. Not much though. I'll have a pic posted in my Trip Report, assuming I ever write the thing.
