We are about to become mebers and are purchasing two resales for 150 each....better to do same resort or ok to do two different ones? Use year will be the same.

Thanks,

I think the main difference is the reservation window...for your home resort it's 11 months, for non-home resorts, it's 7 months...

The basic rule is to buy where you intend to stay. That gives you the 11 month window for reservations. Over time, this appears to be more important, as OKW, BWV are sold out and other resorts are increasingly sold out. If you want to vacation at Hilton Head in the prime summer season, you are much more likely to get the accomodations you want if you own at HH and can use the 11 month window for reservations, rather than competing with all DVC members at the 7 month window. Same goes for BWV reservations at prime Disney World vacation periods.

Same use year makes it easier to manage the points.

Just a reminder....you'll have the 11 month advantage for 150 points at each resort (not 300 at each). If you plan on using both these resorts it shouldn't be a problem at all.

You need to decide where you want to vacation the MOST & make sure you have enough points for that resort... For instance our home resort, and where we own more points is BWV, but I bought a 100 point add on at OKW for the sole purpose of having enough points every three years to stay in a grand villa at OKW

If you like two resorts equally, owning at both equally is a good idea... if like us you want the 11 month preference at another resort for a specific reason buy an add on there.. but if that isn't the case buy the same resort for bookkeeping ease....

We own at OKW and BWV. The bulk of our points are at OKW, but we purchased 100 BWV points so we could use the 11 month window to secure standard view rooms, and with banking/borrowing, 100 points gave us plenty to work with. If you intend to use both of the resorts, the 150 each sounds ideal! Good luck with your decision and we look forward to welcoming you home soon!

I am doing the samething by having (2) home resorts.
I am going to bank my points everyother year between the (2) resorts. I have 150 at the WLV and I am going buy 150 at the BCV in the future. By alternating between the (2) I will have 300 home point at the WLV one year and 300 home point at the BCV the other year. This will give me the 11 month atvantage.

Just so I understand what you're saying (and it sounds like a great idea): every year, you will bank all of your, say, BCV points and borrow next year's WLV points, giving you 300 WLV points to use the 11 month window. Hmmm, excellent idea... :)

We have 210 points each at OKW and VB. It sometimes causes logistical problems when trying to make ressies at one or the other that exceed the 210 points you have for that resort. We've booked half a trip at 11 months out and had to call back at the 7 month window to book the rest of the trip. The good news is that it has always worked. If you got good deals on your resells, you should come out ahead. Good luck!

Yes, that is the idea by banking one and borrowing the other. This would give me 300 points at either home resort. 300 points does work out for us and would give us one week in October and then an extended weekend in January and still have a few points left over. The other person mentioned booking only part of the trip at the 11 month and the remainder at the 7th month - I find that to be a little more difficult if you call back and it is unavailable. One thing that works out for us is our use year is October 1 and we like to travel in Oct. so that we get to use our points in the beginning of our use year. If we change our mind, we know we have to use the points in the same year, but we have 11 months remaining in that use year to use up those points.

I've really enjoyed listening to this discussion group because it has given me some very good pointers. I am sorry that I have not responded as often as other people on this board.

Have a wondeful Disney day!!!

We have 160 points at BWV and just added on 100 points at VWL. This will allow us a full week in a 2BR at BWV every other year, and 5 nights in a 2BR at VWL. If we had 75 more at VWL we could do a full week, but DH makes faces when I suggest it!:)
We just had our first BWV stay and we really loved it, but I think it will be cool to switch back and forth, plus we can spend more MK time when we are at VWL. It's a step in the right direction--originally we were only going every other year!;)
