On our next trip, my husband and I want to try the San Angel Inn. We have printed off the menu but wanted to get some imput. Our main attraction to this restaurant is the ambience.

Is the food good? Do they serve chips and salsa to each table? Is there any "must try" dishes? Thanks in advance for your imput.

As for the ambience, there really isn't anything else like it at WDW. However, we weren't particularly impressed with the food and it's pretty loud. There is better mexican food out there (speaking off off-sight venues) and I think they could offer a better variety. But going for the atmosphere of the place is reason enough to dine there.

Had the chance to eat there on my last trip in 2002. And I really didn't care for it. The table were really close together. It was so dark we really could not see the menues. And the food was not that great. We liked the appatizer, but it all went down hill from there.

But at least we can say that we have been there, done that, but we are not gpoing back!

I'll disagree with previous posters. We had a great meal there. However, we ordered the more authentic mexican dishes, not tex-mex. Seems like a lot of people on these boards don't like the tex-mex there, while the people that enjoy true mexican seem to like the mexican dishes there.

I had a beef entree (1st one on the dinner menu) that was awesome. My husband had a chicken mole. My husband had just been in Mexico City several months before for a week long business trip. He said the mole was as good as what he ate in Mexico.

We like the dark atmosphere.

I had the best nachos of my life at the SAI! :)

We've eaten there twice and really enjoyed it. My group has requested to eat there again in June. I can't remember the whole name of this dish that I had, but it was really good. Pollo Rajas? I think. Yummy!

I liked the food there ... We ate there in December as part of the CP package. The tables are a little close together but I didn't really notice after a while. I had the Pollo a las Rajas and my DBF had the Mexicano, I thought both were really good. I thought the portions were a bit on the big side though... but then again, I'm use to small portions.

I had the tenderloin and it was TERRIFIC!
And...
The margaritas inside are MUCH BETTER than the ones outside!

We've eaten lunch there twice. Love the atmosphere, although as other have said, the tables are reallyclosetogether;) You do get chips and salsa, we thought that the queso fundido was great, the rice cake dessert was kind of icky, and the rest of the food was so-so. We will go back, although probably not for a few years. Definitely worth it to at least try it once, even if only for the atmosphere. HTH:D

We always eat lunch there but try to eat late when the place is less crowded. The margaritas are wonderful and I adore the chicken mole. DS loves the soft tacos. We have never had poor service. I do agree the portions are large - but yummy!!!!

Thank you so much for the responses. We love Mexican food and are especially looking forward to the ambience. I appreciate your input.

DW, myself and MIL went - had a table right next to the El Rio de Tiempo river ride. The restaurant is very cozy but the themes are great with the dark room, and the river ride. The Mexican dishes are very good albeit a little pricey (but it is Disney) and the Margaritas were very good as well

A solid choice for dinner

thanks

We have done lunch here every trip so far. Lunch is a bit cheaper. We really like the atmosphere. We like the food, but I do have to say, Don Pablos is better  . But the atmosphere can't be beat!! We keep going back. We usually get 2 platters w/ a variety and share them between the 3 of us. I think it would be a great place for a romantic meal.
