Two first timers take on free dining...was it a success? 13-27 Sept 2011- Complete...

That red velvet cupcake sure does look yummy!

I'm sorry 50's PTC ws a disappointment. I have been there multiple times and it does depend on who you end up getting as your server that I think makes or breaks the experience.

It sure was yummy!

Hmm I'm glad we tried it on our first trip but I think I will wait a bit before returning. I certainly think you are right in that it depends on who your server is. We saw some antics from Cousin Tony and he was hilarious! I think I'm going to specifically ask for him when I go back here.

I must stop reading this DR while hungry for a snack! I want a cupcake from SR!!! (insert whiney voice):rotfl:

Kadence wants a mickey waffle as well, she says we could get on a plane and go get one and be back tomorrow! I like how she thinks!:thumbsup2

Haha I want a cupcake as well! I miss all the desserts as the ones in the UK just don't measure up - well apart from Krispy Kremes! ;)

I also like how she thinks - could you tell her to pick one up for me as well so it can be shipped. I'll make sure she gets her reward! :lmao:

I'm bummed I didn't get a chance to try the Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake from Starring Rolls (especially since the one at Karamell-Kuche was a disappointment)... but I also loved their Red Velvet cupcake! Soooo good!

Aww, sorry your experience at 50sPTC wasn't what you hoped for. Glad you enjoyed the food, though... it really is good. Your desserts look yummy!

Oh I'm bummed for you but hey it's another excuse to return ;) I actually do get a chance to try that Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake later (the secret is to go to Disney Quest but shh don't tell anyone ) and lets just say although that Red Velvet Cupcake was sooo good I wouldn't want to choose between them.

Thanks Shannon! The dessert was yummy and am glad we experienced it once as well.

I definitely missed going to Starring Rolls this trip for yummy cupcakes! We ended up spending 3 hours total at DHS this trip thinking that we will return for 2nd day but didn't happen. We are definitely spending more time next trip and I'm going to make an effort going to Starring Rolls.

Mmm yummy cupcakes - all this writing about them is making me drool! :rotfl: We did the same as you and only spent one day here thinking we would return (but that never happened due to bad weather) I hope you get your hands on some Starring Roll cupcakes on your next trip.

I agree that 50's Prime Time is probably better with a larger group or kids - we went with a big group of people once and it was hilarious! Still, I think your server should have done more to help you have the full experience - that's kind of the point of the place!

Exactly! I booked this place because of the entertainment aspect! However I would return again with a large group or kids and hope I get a totally different experience.

Oooohhh those Mickey Waffles!!!!

:scared1: No peanut butter cupcake??? That is unheard of!!!!

Sorry your experience at 50s wasn't very prime! :sad2: It's a hit and miss sort of thing I guess!

I'm glad I'm not alone in the Mickey Waffles love!! They sure are the best, aren't they? I saw the waffle maker and wanted to get one but I don't think mine would turn out as well.

I know!! I couldn't believe it! However I did manage to get my hands on one later on in the trip :thumbsup2

Haha thanks for your comment - I loved your description of my meal at 50s not being very prime! I guess your right and it just depends on the server etc. We did have other restaurants that more than made up for this experience though.

Sorry you missed out on the Peanut Butter Cupcake :sad2: but I had the Red Velvet one too and you are right it was VERY good!

The antics are the reason we never go to 50s. I teach table manners and sometimes could scream when I see people "eat". So this is definitely not for us! :rotfl2:

Oh I did get it later on so am glad Starring Rolls didn't have it as otherwise would never have tasted the Red Velvet Cupcake ;) It sure was VERY good.

Haha in that case it probably is a good idea you stay away from 50s PTC! I will return one day but just not for a while.

We had breakfast at Everything Pop again - we enjoyed having our morning meals here.

I ordered a Pop waffle with strawberries and cream. I got an apple juice for Zaheer as well as my morning coffee. The waffle was nice but I preferred the Mickey waffles with syrup yesterday.

Zaheer got a cherry turnover which he enjoyed (you can see it in the corner of the picture!)

We had spent some time at TL and headed to WPE for lunch. We decided to change things and order the four cheese pesto pizza on this occasion. This was nice but a bit too heavy for me. I preferred the veggie pizza however Zaheer really liked the cheese one and ate most of it.

We also managed to get our hands on a creme brulee today. This was great! Again Zaheer enjoyed it more than me - I preferred the cheesecake.

For our evening meal today we decided to eat at Everything Pop again. We had to tell the kitchen an hour before we wanted to eat so we did this and went to Disney Quest. It was at this point that I managed to get my hands on the Chocolate Peanut Butterfinger Cupcake. We left in the fridge and had it for breakfast the next morning. It was soo yummy though a bit sickly to be having early in the morning. However, if you can't have cupcakes for breakfast at Disney World when can you have them ;)

We returned to Pop and got the chicken with rice and vegetables. For desserts we got a fruit cup (which was eaten later) and an apple turnover. Both of these were nice - sorry I don't have any pictures of these items of food. We both got water with our meals as we could have fizzy drinks in our refillable mug.

Once we had eaten we returned to our room and rested.

Review of today:

Everything Pop Breakfast - A- Was good but I preferred the Mickey waffles.
WPE - A. Pizza and dessert were good. As mentioned Zaheer enjoyed both more than me but I liked the choices as well.
Everything Pop Dinner - A. We enjoyed our meal here and were glad we had tried Pop for dinner as well.

They sure do pile on the icing on those delicious looking cupcakes! I meant to say this before, but I'm so glad they were able to accomodate you guys with the halal meat.

I am glad you got to try the Peanut butter cupcake - as much as I like it, it ALWAYS defeats me! :lmao:

You waffle at Pop looks good - we need to eat at the food courts more - having the villa we are more than happy to have breakfast there. ;)

I have to agree Pam that the cupcakes sure were overloaded with the icing/sugar content - however having a sweet tooth it didn't bother me too much! :rotfl:

It was so nice of Disney to be so accomodating about the halal meat - they sure go above and beyond the call of duty :thumbsup2

Haha Karin I can understand how it would defeat you! :lmao: We shared it between us and think there was still a tiny bit left that did not get eaten!

We enjoyed our morning breakfasts at the food court though if we had a villa I imagine we would be having breakfast there as well ;)

I forgot that they don't have the Mickey Waffles at Pop or at least they didn't when we stayed there! The cupcake looks delicious but because of my peanut allergy I will take your word for it:lmao:

Yay for the Chocolate PB cupcake!

I've heard/read nothing but great things about WPE. I'll have to keep that place in mind for future trips!

I agree with IHeart Duck! Cupcakes for breakfast, is there somethng wrong with that??:rotfl2:

Pizza looked good but then again being from Wisconsin, Cheese is one of our main food groups:thumbsup2

I'm drooling over Choc Penutbetter Cupcake! Isn't it great that you don't feel guilty having them for breakfast? That's another reason why we love Disney vacation. :lmao: Great review of Everything Pop and WPE!

They have the small Mickey waffles but just not the big one - they have the Pop one instead. It shouldn't really matter but I don't think any waffle can beat a Mickey one! The cupcake sure was delicious - oh no on not being able to try it. In that case like you said you will just have to take my word for it! :lmao:

I loved my waffle with strawberries and whipped cream...

.../drifts off drooling over waffle

I liked it but just preferred the Mickey waffles with syrup - now them I can drool over :rotfl:

Wherever I saw them I made sure they were on my plate!

Yay for the Chocolate PB cupcake!

It was great being able to try it especially after it not being available the day before and it was even better to have at breakfast ;)

Definitely keep in mind WPE for a future trip - it is a gem for a CS place.

Killing me with the cupcakes here!

I ate 1/2 one for breakfast too....:rolleyes1

:lmao:

Glad to know I'm not alone in having a cupcake for breakfast at Disney :rolleyes1

Yay another one that thinks there is nothing wrong with having cupcakes for breakfast :rotfl2:

Haha it took a second but I got the joke! :lmao: You should order the cheese pizza from WPE whilst wearing a cheesehead!

Drool away...I'll join you! :rotfl2: I think we should make a list of things you can only do at Disney World! Although we don't need convincing it might make others see why we visit so often ;) Thanks - we enjoyed both meals.

Well, I'm a little late, but I'm in.:surfweb:

I have a trip in December and are staying at Pop. We absolutely love it there!

:welcome: and thanks for joining!

We loved Pop and would love to stay here again on a future trip.

Have an amazing time in December and enjoy seeing Pop with all the Christmas decorations :goodvibes

I already shared our breakfast for today in the last post and it sure was yummy! This post is going to be a bit on the small side as we didn't spend the day at Disney - you will find out why later on in the TR!

However we did have a reservation for dinner at Boma. This was a pleasant experience. Our server was Jerry and he was busy but made sure we had our drink refills and the plates were cleared. We tasted the special jungle juice (think it contains mango, pineapple and orange) for the first time and fell in love with it! It was soo nice.

We asked to speak with the chef and Chef Brian came out to speak with us. He was very good and walked with us through the buffet telling us what we could and could not eat. He also offered to make us some chicken exactly how we wanted it. Zaheer loved his chicken as it was full of spices and I enjoyed my mild version. Whilst we were walking through the buffet another chef called Trish came to speak to us and said chef Majidi had spoken with them and explained that they were to take very special care of us. I felt so special and although I had spoken with Chef Majidi before leaving I didn't think we would receive this kind of service. I can honestly say this place was the best hands down and Zaheer even asked why I hadn't booked it twice during our trip.

From the buffet Zaheer got the mushroom and peanut butter soup. I tasted some and it was great.

390-1.jpg

I got the shrimp pasta, curried pasta, cous cous, pitta bread, coleslaw and chick pea salad as well as sundried tomato houmous. I have to say everything I tried was delicious! It was all fresh and my favourite had to be pitta bread with houmous.

391-1.jpg

Zaheer also got some salad, salmon and a mixture of other choices.

388-1.jpg

We had to wait a bit for our chicken and chef Brian even came out to apologise in between. Again we felt like royalty and said it was no problem. The chicken arrived and we both loved it - it came with sticky rice and vegetables. Zaheer couldn't finish all of his as he had eaten more than me from the buffet I was aware to keep space for the main course.

392-1.jpg

For dessert the only thing we could have was fruit and cheesecake so I loaded a plate with them! They were rich and yummy and I cleared my plate - I would return to Boma for the desserts alone!

393-1.jpg

I had already eaten two of these beauties before remembering to take a picture of them!

We settled the bill and got ready to leave. Chef Brian came out to speak with us on our way out asking us how we found the chicken and if everything was to our satisfaction. He was awesome and made our night - I really need to get in touch with Disney to let them know how great he was during our stay and the things he did to make this meal amazing :thumbsup2

Food - A+ Was lots of variety and plenty to choose from even with our dietary needs. The chicken was great and I can not praise those cheesecakes enough!
Service - A+ Although Jerry was very good it was Chef Brian that made this meal for us. He was amazing!
Atmosphere - A It was a bit busy and noisy when we arrived but it quietened down as our meal progressed.

Would we return? YES, YES and YES! If Zaheer had his way we would have returned again during our trip.

If you have never eaten at Boma you are missing out people - go and visit! You will not be disappointed!

Wow, Disney truly outdid itself with those chefs. I am so happy they were so wonderful :) So glad you enjoyed the food! I think I refilled my plate 4 times. :rotfl: The only thing I didn't like was the salmon, it was dry on our visit. That jungle juice is THE BEST! I didn't know they had it at Boma :sad1: The only place I encountered it was on the Wild Africa Trek, I think I could drink my weight in that wonderful liquid!

What's not to love about BOMA? It was a highlight of our 2010 trip and I would love to try it for breakfast one day. So glad you guys were well taken care of. Leave it up to Disney to make us feel like royalty! :thumbsup2

Q

So glad to hear you loved Boma! It might just be my all-time favorite place to have dinner at WDW. On our family trip last year, I think Boma was the 2nd or 3rd dinner we had... my BIL wanted to go back, he loved it so much!
