Ok, I have seen it in posts time and time again, but I have to finally ask.

What's up with the two finger point that the CM's use? :confused3

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

I was told that was how Walt Disney used to point. We looked for it in the film "One Mans Dream' and we so him point like that. We were told that he pointed like that because there was a cigarette usually in his fingers.

Aaah. So is that the answer that the CM gave you or that asked the same question and I'm not just weird for wanting to know?:rotfl2:

In some cultures it is a sign of disrespect (or something similar) to point with one finger...so Disney CM's have always pointed with 2 fingers.

It was told to us by a CM. True or not it kinda makes sense to me. It was presented to us as a "Did You Know" type question. I was under the impression as a sign of not being disrespectful to other individuals.

What the CM said was that in many still photos of Walt they have airbrushed the cigarette out, leaving what appears to be a 2 fingered point. I can't remember now where that CM was, or why we were discussing it.

I have always been under the impression that it stemmed from not wanting to offend people from other cultures where pointing is rude. :confused3

I can't say for sure, but I know that in my DS' Tae Kwon Do class, they are taught to point with their whole hand...it is considered disrespectful to point with one finger.

DH (a former CM) says they are taught that it is impolite to point with one finger because someone could think that they were being specifically pointed at. As such, they're taught to point with two fingers, or better yet utilize their whole palm to indicate a direction.

They are also not allowed to lean. They're taught a specific way of standing against something that allows them to lean some weight upon it, but makes them appear to be standing upright.

I never even noticed this. Good observation.

Here in Massachusetts it is not uncommon to see someone pointing one finger at you while driving. I think it is a sign of disrespect if you don't offer a one finger salute in return. :scared1: :lmao:

THanks everyone for the responses. I havent had the time to reply back, mostly due to travel for work. But the important thing is that I feel my questions have been answered by this awe inspiring group of people.

Thanks!!!!
