Two Days in Brussels?

I will be hanging out in Europe next January and was wondering whether I should start in Paris or land in Brussels first and spend a couple of days there? Is it worth it? What is there to do?

Brussels is well worth a visit. There are quite a few places to visit - such as the Palais de Justice and Palais Royal and definately visit the Atomium. And of course you have to sample some chocolate, belgian waffles and some of the hundreds of beers on offer! They do a hop on hop off bus tour that takes you around most of the city. You would have to get a train to the Atomium though.

It is also really easy to jump on a train to Bruge! Which is also a gorgeous place to visit. We did a city bus tour here which lasted around 2-3 hours and was brilliant!

Last time we went we did a full day in Brussels and then a full day in Bruge.

I went to Brussels for the weekend last month. While there isn't a huge amount to see (in comparison to other cities like Paris), it's a good place to visit. There are lots of nice restaurants, bars and shops.

We found the very centre of Brussels to have lots to do (enough for a couple of days) however, we found that the last time we went in August 2009 the locals outside of the main few tourist streets where very rude and unhelpful.

The (mainly) flemish people of Bruges are much more friendly IMHO.

I've only been to Brussels in the winter but found everyone very polite, friendly and helpful despite me speaking very, very little French.

Brussels is, in my opinion, definitely worth a visit. The Grote Markt itself is one of the most beautiful 'squares' in Europe. Take a look at some of the Brussels pages on this sight - and I think you will agree. If you are already in Belgium, and you are wandering around, you might want to also visit Antwerp, Ghent, Brugges, or even Leuven. All are 'worth it' !
