Two contracts, two use years - a problem?

I just picked up a 100 pt contract at SSR with a Mar use year

Already looking to add a 50 pt contract, perhaps at SSR or perhaps elsewhere; is a matching use year a must?

It is not a "must" but certainly easier for point management. Even if you add on at SSR, with a different use year, you will have two totally separate memberships..meaning that even to use all of your points at the 11 month window, you'll need to transfer from one contract to another, and you can only do that once per use year. You'll also have different banking windows. Unless you have a specific reason for wanting two use years, I would avoid it if possible.

Chuck -

Silly question. If the 11 month window happens to be within a time where you have points available on both contracts, do you still need to transfer the points from one to the other, or can MS just apply the points from both contracts toward the reservation ?

Only have 1 contract (for now :rotfl:) and am just curious about this for the future.

Ponts for two contracts can not be used for any one day of the reservation, so if you have a reservation that takes exectly 150 points, you'll likely need to transfer points. If you can make a reservation where some days add up to exactly 100 ponts, and other days add up to exectly 50, it wouldn't be a problem.

I have 2 use years, it's kind of a pain, but doable.
I have a small add on (25 pts) in a June use year, the rest of my points are September.
What I do is use those points first before I dip into my main bunch of points. I only need to use them once every 2 years. I bank all the points one year so I have 50 the following. Then I book 2 or 3 nights of the trip that costs let's say 45 points. I use 45 of the 50 and bank the remaining 5 into the following year. Finish off the bulk of my vacation with my September points.
I've never transferred points.

Rinse and repeat.
It's pretty simple, but would have been even simpler if they had all been together. But it was too good of a deal to pass up, and it's really not that bad.

Gotcha - I can see where it would be a PITA, especially a few years down the line. (Even more so if I got a 3rd seperate contract - addonitis and all)

Thanks for the input!

In general I am fairly pro different master contracts as they can add protections if chosen correctly. However, I would not consider it for smaller contracts for most situations, esp when you have the choice as you currently do. The minor savings isn't worth it. The only way I'd do separate masters for smaller contracts is when you needed part of them to be titled differently from the rest and even then I'd want them to be the same UY if at all possible.
