Can anyone tell me how it works when you have two home resorts? For example if you own 50 pts at BWV June UY and 150 pts at SSR April UY, can you book BWV at the 11 month mark using points from both contracts? Thanks for any info you can provide.

No, you can only use points from BWV at BWV at the 11 month park. You can combine at the 7 month mark, but it is much more difficult because they are not the same use year.

As the PP mentioned I would strongly recommend both contracts being the same use year, otherwise you get into transfers, and I believe you can only do one a year.

However, there are some advantages to owning at multiple resorts. I own at four resorts, 50 points basically at each (WL is a little bit more) for a total of 213 points. I rotate three of them through three year rotation, so every three years I get 150 points at the 11 month window. So I own 50 at BLT, 50 at Poly and 63 at WLV, so I have 150, 150, and 189 at WLV every 3 years with bank and borrow. I also have a 50 point OKW contract which used to be in the 3 year rotation until I bought POLY and those are just fill in points for the 7 month window. I am not a huge fan of OKW, and have never used the 11 month window there.

Confusing yes, but then again I get to stay where I want.

Can you explain your 3 year rotation to me? I am trying to do the math, albeit poorly, to figure it out. I am curious as we are looking into 70 point contracts at 2 different villas (we already own VGF).

Bank a year, use the current year and borrow a year to get three times the points. BUT, if you have to cancel that year, you cannot un-borrow the points you borrowed. And the banked points expire at the end of the year they were banked into. You could bank the current year points if you weren't past your banking period.

Think about it, if you could do what you suggest, everyone would own 25 points at their favorite expensive resort and 200 at the cheapest resort. Disney is smarter than that. Buy where you love to stay.

I have 5 different contract with 3 different UYs, I have at least 200 pts in each UY so if I need pts I usually bank or borrow as need be. If I need even more pts I do a transfer. It all works out and have never had any problems making a reservation at the 7 or 11 month mark

You need to be careful with different UYs. When we purchased our Aulani contract we thought we would get a UY based worked better with the time period we would always travel to Aulani, fall and winter. Our other points all have a February UY. But we found out right away that the extreme differences of a February UY and October UY was too much. When we got our current year points (2013) for our Aulani contract we could not transfer them to our February UY which was already in the 2014 UY. So we switched the Aulani contract to match the UY for our other contracts since it was within the 10 day period of our purchase. Sure we lost those 2013 points but had greater peace of mind ever since.

We could have dealt with it and often had leftover dangling points at Aulani, but keeping all of our points in the same UY is easier for us. Now we use the leftover Aulani points at the 7 month mark as needed.

That's what I thought, just double checking.

It depends what you want to do with them. We bought spend VGC points to use exclusively on the West Coast.. We would happily have bought a different UY and used them separately but coincidentally the contract we found happened to be put same UY.

I'm curious about your three-year rotation. I'm getting ready to add on some more points in the next few years and trying to decide where I want to add on and what UY I want. I understand how there is more risk with banking and borrowing. What is confusing to me though is that it seems that going to a certain resort every 3 years would cause you to lose points. For example, say your VWL reservation for 2015 is 140 points. You use 50 banked 2014 points, 50 current 2015 points, and 40 borrowed 2016 points. You can bank the remaining 10 2016 points, but since you won't be back to VWL until 2018 you won't be able to use those 10 points there. What do you do with those leftover points?

Yeah its not an exact science for sure, if I was going to do it again I would figure out exactly how many points I need for the room I want and divide by 3, but the problem I have found is that a)I was adding on slowly and could only afford so many points at a time I actually started with only 25 points! and b)as in the case of WLV my needs changed, I have exactly enough points for 7 nights in a 1 bedroom for January when I go, but now I want more then 7 nights.

So to give you an idea here is how my last few years have worked out:
January 2013, 7 nights WLV 1 bedroom used exact points (stayed 2 extra nights at Wilderness Lodge in a inn room)
January 2014, 2 nights BCV, 9 nights BLT standard view studio, booked BLT using BLT points at 11 months, booked BCV borrowing from the next year's OKW points (because I figured out exactly how many I would need to next year for OKW, and used the rest this year)
January 2015, OKW, using OKW points and the 16 points left over from BLT the previous year, booked 10 nights at OKW (was changed later to 5 nights OKW studio, 5 nights BWV standard view studio)
Jan 2016, Polynesian Standard view studio 8 nights, followed by 4 nights in a 1 bedroom at WLV (since this would have normally been WLV rotation year, I had to use some of those points)

So basically I use all/or as many as I can at 11 months, and use what ever is left, or whatever I know I will have left over for the next year at 7 months. I can definitely see how this would be confusing, but it also means I get to stay at BLT, Poly and WLV for Marathon weekend every year. Otherwise I would be stuck at the same place all the time, and as you can tell from my split stays I like variety. BTW I have never lost a single point.

If the stay you planned to do over and over every 3 years was 140 points then you would want to have a 46.6666 point contract. But let's just say 47. ;) of course even that leaves you with 1 stranded point but you can see where it should be.....that your stay be divisible by 3 otherwise you'd need to find a different way to use exactly 3 times the number of points you have whether it be move for one night or else just let the Point or two expire. Or if you owned a few extra you could to rent out the excess.

This used to work really well up until DVC decided they were willing to do reallocations. If that happens then you might be looking at a larger surplus or perhaps a deficit for your stay. And if something would happen so you could not travel after making the reservation you would have all your points in one year and only one of those sets could be banked. It's the riskiest way to try and use points but some do it.

Wow. Just thinking about that is giving me a headache. Good for you for being able to keep up with that! I think I will stick to my plan of owning 2 home resorts with the same use year and rotating every other year.

Wow. I am impressed. That's a lot to keep up with. I never thought about how split stays would be a good way to use up those extra points. I hate split stays so that plan wouldn't work for me. Thanks for the info!
