Two Community Boards?

I'm kinda 'new' around here (lurk alot but don't post much)...

It seems there are several separate Community Boards on this site and I'm wondering if someone can explain it to me.

The Podcast board is like it's own Community Board but only for people that post on that board.

The Budget board is like it's own Community Board but only for people that post on that board.

And this Community board is...well...I guess for people who post here.

It just seems strange that off-topic discussions are really going on everywhere. Some boards are moderated heavily, others are not moderated at all, and still others are allowed to more or less have their own rules.

I'm just a little confused at what seems like different standards for different boards and posters that are all supposed to be part of one community.

Another is the disABILITIES Forum which has its own CB.

The main disABILITIES Forum is for discussion related to disabilities at Disney Parks and Resorts or Disney Cruise Line, as well as othe theme parks in the Orlando area.

The disABILITIES Community Board is basically for coping with disabilities in other than Park envrionments, such as in schools, shopping, etc. It was started to have a place for disability-related discussions that did not involve the Parks.

There are almost 240,000 members on the DIS. Because of the size, it has naturally evolved into several smaller communities within the big community. And within those smaller communities, there are even smaller groups of acquaintances and friends.

And the moderators and webmasters are all individual humans who will do things differently from each other, but hopefully all of them follow and uphold the basic board guidelines. Some are more junior police-ish than others, but variance is not unexpected. If someone is overdoing the job (much like Bobby Brady did as a hall monitor), or underdoing it (as in rarely if ever even posting at all), then hopefully they are eventually let go as moderators or webmasters and replaced with more capable or reasonable people.

But besides all that, what difference does it make if there are multiple "communities"? If you don't like it and you do like how they do it other places, then why are you here and posting about this - and as your 8th post?

Wow...no need to get defensive.

I just happened to notice that the podcast board in particular seems to be it's own little community board with similar threads going here and there (and the budget board, and I assume the disabilities board). I guess I kind of understand how people will post about similar events (i.e. lots of Thanksgiving threads on Thanksgiving, etc.) and I do understand how internet friendships/acquaintances are formed.

Other message boards that I have gone to that have created multiple boards for different topics tend to keep those boards limited to those topics. Off-topic threads are either moved to the appropriate board or closed.

That doesn't appear to be happening here and I was curious.

I was also curious how moderators are very active on some boards and completely non-existant on others.

Sorry to have offended you, Krista, with my question. I didn't realize that I needed to have more posts in order to ask questions. I'll be sure to remember that next time I have one.

Oh, threads do get moved. My nickname for this forum (the real Community Board ) is "The Dumping Ground" . Threads from elsewhere will show up with a bunch of posters on it that none of us who frequent this board have ever heard of. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is slightly confused when that happens, and wondering, "Who are all these people?? " .

Yeah, why does that happen anyway? We don't want their leftovers. Usually they send them this way when they go "off-topic". Well then close it. Besides once it gets moved here it takes on a whole new life and 9 out of 10 times the OP doesn't come back because they don't know where they went. And you know what happens when the OP doesn't come back!

When I posted about the whole dumping ground thing, somehow I knew you'd be the first one to chime in with me, phorsenuf! But I was afraid you wouldn't be on and I'd be left out here all by myself acknowledging that particular phenomenon .
