My DBF took me and our friend to see Two Brothers last night.
All 3 of us were in tears (including the two guys! And me, who never cries at movies). This is a breathtaking movie, appropriate for entire families, and it will touch and possibly even change you.
I rarely rave about movies, but this one deserves it. I fear that because it is a "family" film that will not well in the theaters, as it does not appeal to teens. But I would encourage everyone who adores animals to tray and see it before it leaves the theaters.
The tigers in the film are amazing. We were joking that they should be nominated for best actor this awards season. They are just incredible. You see and feel the pain, curiosity and joy in their eyes.
The movie is long and has very little actual dialouge. But the almost 2 hours fly by.
Some people may complain that it does not hold true to nature and how tigers in the wild really are. I say, so what? If this movie encourages more people, esp. children to care about and learn about tigers then it has done it's job.
Without giving away spoilers , I can just say there are several parts of this movie where even my DBF had tears in his eyes (something I've never seen him do during a movie before). There were parts of the movie where my heart was racing, and I was on the edge of my seat. And I think everyone left the movie feeling happy but also very aware and maybe even a little ashamed that humans have killed tigers for sport and reduced their numbers to only about 5000.
My favorite scene was where one tiger uses something he was trained to do by the humans who beat him and tormented him to save his life and his brothers.
The film itself is just gorgeous. There are so many scenes in here that just struck me as works of art.
All I can say is WOW.
In case anyone is wondering, the movie is rated PG for mild animal violence and hunting scenes. Also there is a brief scene in the first 5 minutes of the Two Brother's parents mating (not graphic and mostly not shown on camera; just implied).
Try to see it, if you can.
