My DBF took me and our friend to see Two Brothers last night.

All 3 of us were in tears (including the two guys! And me, who never cries at movies). This is a breathtaking movie, appropriate for entire families, and it will touch and possibly even change you.

I rarely rave about movies, but this one deserves it. I fear that because it is a "family" film that will not well in the theaters, as it does not appeal to teens. But I would encourage everyone who adores animals to tray and see it before it leaves the theaters.

The tigers in the film are amazing. We were joking that they should be nominated for best actor this awards season. They are just incredible. You see and feel the pain, curiosity and joy in their eyes.

The movie is long and has very little actual dialouge. But the almost 2 hours fly by.

Some people may complain that it does not hold true to nature and how tigers in the wild really are. I say, so what? If this movie encourages more people, esp. children to care about and learn about tigers then it has done it's job.

Without giving away spoilers , I can just say there are several parts of this movie where even my DBF had tears in his eyes (something I've never seen him do during a movie before). There were parts of the movie where my heart was racing, and I was on the edge of my seat. And I think everyone left the movie feeling happy but also very aware and maybe even a little ashamed that humans have killed tigers for sport and reduced their numbers to only about 5000.

My favorite scene was where one tiger uses something he was trained to do by the humans who beat him and tormented him to save his life and his brothers.

The film itself is just gorgeous. There are so many scenes in here that just struck me as works of art.

All I can say is WOW.

In case anyone is wondering, the movie is rated PG for mild animal violence and hunting scenes. Also there is a brief scene in the first 5 minutes of the Two Brother's parents mating (not graphic and mostly not shown on camera; just implied).

Try to see it, if you can.

:D

Thank you for the review. My 4 year old son wants to see it, but I was a little nervous, I was hoping to hear about it. Think it would be okay for him, or are there some intense scenes for someone that young.

Thanks:)

My 17, yes I said 17, year old DD is dragging her BF to go see it today. It actually got pretty good reviews.

I'm leaving in exactly 13 minutes, taking my 8 yo dd and her friend. She absolutely loves tigers, which is why we need to keep going back to WDW, of course. :)

DH and definitely want to see this; I am glad that you enjoyed it. And thanks for the review!

:wave2:

Going to see it with my Mom. I am such a sucker for baby tigers. I know I'll be bawling my brains out, but it looks so worth it.:D

I cry on the commercials...I dont know if I can handle the movie! My DD wants to see it pretty bad. I guess Ill just bring the tissues!!

I'm with Cindy... there is no way I can see the movie. I get choked up just thinking about it.

Can he handle the death of an animal? There are a few scenes in which hunters kill animals, not graphically. What is show in a tiny bit of blood and a hole through a tiger ear. There is a one scene with the implied death of an animal. Most of the intensity is done off screen.

I will PM you if you want, I just don't want to put spoilers here...if you want more info, let me know.

The "mating"scene is quite tame. I think you could easily say the tigers were playing if it came up and you didn't want to get into it.

Thanks for the review, EsmeraldaX. Especially for this added note. I was thinking about taking DS4 and DS6, but I think they are too sensitive to seeing a hunter kill an animal. I don't like to explain those scenes....

However, I will be looking forward to having Grandma watch them while I go and enjoy it. Tears and all...

Thanks again!:wave2:

I took DS to see this movie this morning.
There were a few parts where we were both almost in tears.

Yes, it is a great movie. I took DD last night to see it and we both thought it was very good....sad at times. She is 6 and I did find that she had a little trouble following it at times and I had to explain things to her. For the most part though she knew what was going on. And I agree, the tigers are just the most adorable things.

I'm glad to hear the reviews!! I'm taking my daughter and my two nephews tomorrow afternoon and now I'm looking forward to it even more!

Well, DH and I went to see Two Brothers last night. (We got shut out of Fahrenheit 9/11). I gotta tell ya EsmaraldaX's review is dead-on accurate. It is a beautiful film, a work of art. The tigers are wonderful in it, I agree Oscar worthy. I kept thinking, how in the world did they get them to do that???

But.......

Although I am glad I saw it, it hurt too much to watch it. There was far too much "down" before the uplift at the end, and in my opinion, it did not compensate for how hard it was to watch the first 70 minutes of this film. I don't want to give anything away, but here is my "warped" classification of this movie....Glad I saw it, it was amazing, but I don't EVER want to see it again...

I call this my "Sophie's Choice" classification of movies. "Life is Beautiful" falls into this category, too.

I would not take a young child to this movie. The cutesy stuff is few and far between, and the serious stuff is there always. The three year old in back of us cried on several occasions. , and the infant next to us cried a lot, too. But he was probably just hungry. His sister (about 5) just sat there through the entire movie with that "deer in the headlights" expression. I think at best the movie was wasted on her, but I would imagine a little disturbing.

We saw it yesterday. I totally agree with the review here. It's an incredibly beautiful movie (I could just watch the tigers do nothing for hours). That said, it is also not the cute movie they show in the commercials. It is a movie with a message, but very well done. Dh, dd8, and ds11 saw it with me and they all liked it. I was in tears a few times, not just for sad or intense parts, but also for the beautiful uplifting parts as well. Another poster was correct though, that most of the killing or mistreatment is done off screen. I knew what was happening, so it was hard for me, but the small kids in front of me had no idea what they were missing, so they were not upset. I think it's a wonderful film, and while it's getting very good reviews, I think it's going to be overlooked by a lot of people.

I wondered about this too. I *knew* what was going on off screen, but did the young kids? I hoped not, because it was just so heartbreaking. But on the other hand, sometimes we need to witness sadness to realize just how bad it is. I bet quite a few kids (and adults) will become deeply interested in tiger preservation because of this movie. I hope so. Before it's too late. :(

Thank you for the review. I was having mixed emotions on how my 5 year old DD would handle it. Just watching the previews I could tell it was going to be a movie with tears.
