I don't tweet myself, but follow a lot of news/political people. I get a lot of my information from linked stories and @replies from others. I also follow a couple of funny people whose blogs I read.

OMG. You are my new DIS soul sister.

I was all happy when he got a twitter, haha..but I don't tweet him much.
I have gotten a tweet from Aislinn, Jordan, Stephen Stohn [the president of epitome pictures/exec produc of degrassi] and the Degrassi character tweeters of Eli and Adam.

That is sooo great! Aislinn(love her name!) seems very sweet and Jordy is precious. I love that she makes little videos for all the fans. So, did we ever truly figure out how old Munro is? I tried to add up Stephen's math problem and finally gave up and went witht he standard 42...cuz the answer is always 42(Hitchhikers's Guide...I'm a total nerd.)

I actually like Twitter a lot better than Facebook. I like that you can follow anyone.

I have an account.

I follow a lot of people in my field who tweet interesting articles, journals and research links. Mostly I use it educationally/professionally but I do follow a few celebrities and writers if they have funny posts. I don't tweet often, mainly if I've found something that I think might be useful or interesting to people following me.

Interestingly, I very, very rarely update my Facebook status.

To me, they are very different social medias and can be used for very different things.

I don't Twitter, or use "Face Space" (as my grandma calls it - a combination of Facebook & My Space).

I don't want to get too involved in other peoples lives, nor do I need to know what is going on with people I don't communicate with in real life on a regular basis.

I am incredibly overbearing and a "my way or the highway" person, so it is best that I don't get too involved.

I've been on twitter for over 2 years. What you get out of it depends on what you put into it. I found that I have met so many people with common interests and that has lead to me being able to be included in unique opportunities that I never would have been a part of before. Twitter has opened more doors for me that I would not have been able to open on my own.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to start doing it, but that's cool :). I guess it's Kelly Ripa who keeps bringing up Twitter so much and piquing my interest.

Oh yeah. So where do you get the tweets if it's not constant text messages? That's what I want to avoid.

If you have a smartphone many of them have Twitter apps. I just read on my Twitter homepage. There is no notification when someone I am following tweets, you just refresh the page to see new tweets.

Do you use Twitter? I just wonder how many people here do.

I'm sure most of us hear about it all the time, and I'm sure a lot of people wonder the same things I do.

I'm on Facebook regularly, so it's nothing against social networking. But I feel like it would be a constant influx of text messages or just plain information-overload with Twitter. For those of you that use it, why do you like it? And is it text messages, emails, or what?

I don't Twitter and I think it ......:rolleyes1......... Anyways, it is not for me and I have nothing against it for those that do:goodvibes

Oh okay. Thanks for that bit of info. So it is sort of like Facebook - you can just go to a page and check it occasionally.

It's exactly like that. In addition to the smartphone apps, you can also just visit twitter.com and read your feed on there, just like you can with Facebook. Sending tweets to your phone is just another option that you don't have to make use of.

As Robin mentioned, some celebrities don't do their own tweeting even though they claim they do, just like they don't run their own Facebook pages or sign the autographs that fans send off for. I'm sure Tom Cruise and Oprah probably have someone else doing the tweets. That's one reason I don't follow any "real" celebrities. Some people have an official twitter feed but never claim to be the ones tweeting, like James Marsters. The more minor celebrities or the geeky ones (like Wil Wheaton, Weird Al, Jonathan Coulton, Neil Gaiman, one of the Mythbusters, etc) actually do their own tweets. And some (like John Cleese) use a combination - they occasionally tweet but also have assistants who do the bulk of it, but they each sign the tweets they send so you know who is saying what.

i have had my twitter account for a long time and use it hourly, where as my face book I check every so often. Facebook has quickly become what myspace was and thats not a good thing.

twitter gets me sports news faster then anywhere else including internet sites and actual team sites. quick and easier to use. no stupid game requests (feed my cow, help me fight a mafia), pictures are so easy to upload and share right from phone or computer (I use twitpic for this). easy to block or alow people to follow you. for anyone saying they dont want to follor celebrities, ok then dont. I follow 1 celebrity (chad ochocinco), thats it. all my other followers are friends, co workers, or as others have said local businesses I frequent and get deals for following. unless you have super boring friends twitter is fun to read. and the best part if you have a long winded friend you dont have to read a novel because its all less than 140 characters....hehehe.

We are required to use it at work. To put out news alerts.
Also the Police and Fire departments put out tweets on major incidents on Twitter. Giant pain. Used to be they would just e-mail the alerts, I'd get notice on my computer. Now I have to go to all their Twitter pages through the day to check on any developments.
I'm old enough to remember when we just had a speaker in the newsroom and the police and fire departments would just put out an announcement over the speaker......."3 alarm fire, corner of First and A Streets".
Sorry, the old technology worked far better.

why do you have to go to all of thier twitter pages??? just make your own and follow them, it will bring them all up one 1 handy page.

and im sorry but old technology wasnt far better, YOU may have had the information faster but the people it affected may not have. With twitter people can be in the middle of the action tweeting about something and letting outsiders know instantly. normal old days we had to wait toil you tv people got it and decided to share what you wanted with us.

basically twitter gets us real news, from people on the spot, without a slanted bias, FASTER! I dont even have to watch local news anymore because its all old by the time I get home to watch at 5pm. and even then its not even half the story. Example, just a couple weeks ago a little kid in our neighborhood got hit and killed by a truck. thats basically all the news said and showed. via twitter and other such sites the "real" story got out about how this same child has almost been hit dozens of times of 5 years because of a careless mother who never had regard for what her children were doin on a bust street and had CPS called on her 50+ times etc. the real story not just partial facts.

I joined because the one person I wanted to follow had "protected" tweets and the only way to read them was join and request to follow them. I found it is easier to just follow the people you want to instead of checking multiple pages, so after that person unlocked their tweets, I just stayed on.

love twitter! Like others have mentioned, news is the best feature. I get breaking news info as it happens. I do follow some celebrities and the ones I follow mostly do their own tweets. I follow a lot of the local news anchors in Orlando, Denver & Chicago.

I do occasionally post things. I did more Disney stuff when I lived in Orlando & was in the parks more.

Stores occasionally give out coupons via twitter. Celebs like Tony Hawk, play 'twitter games." Yesterday, Tony Hawk's "people" hid 2 autographed skate boards in the Denver metro area and gave out instructions on how to find them. It was fun and 2 people got lucky finding them.

I don't know...I like it.

Yeah, only celebrities I follow are Conan, Gary Busey, and Neil Patrick Harris, but I follow a TON of Disney fans and news sites. I check it constantly.

I never tweet, and I do not have the updates sent to me via text. I only see the updates when I access twitter.

I check Twitter probably every other hour or so from my iPhone. I started out using it just to get news updates and special offers from retailers, but then started coming across people I was interested in, so I started following them. I don't follow any BIG big celebrities, just some people in music (and various bands), athletes (some members of the St. Louis Blues and their broadcast team), Wil Wheaton, a few friends, that kind of thing. Oh, and Loni Love because she makes me laugh.

All told, it's been pretty useful for me...I've gotten in on several concert presales because of tweets from bands, and because I don't tend to browse news sites regularly or watch much network TV, I get news WAY faster via Twitter than I would otherwise.
