Twisters (Twister 2) trailer

I’m going today with my daughter and I splurged and bought fancy D box seats. Apparently they will move and vibrate along with the action on the screen. Maybe it will just be too gimmicky, but I had to give it a shot. Seems like a perfect movie to try it out on.

The original twister was a movie destined for mediocrity that because of the cast and crew, ended up better than the sum of its parts and better than it otherwise would have been. Can this one recapture the magic? I'm skeptical. But I'll see it when I get around to it.

Saw it Friday with both DS. 🌪️🌪️

DS#1 loved it and didn't take a 3rd quarter nap so that tells me huge :thumbsup2 from him.

DS#2 is a movie junkie, critic, detail oriented. He liked it just fine but picked apart some technical stuff but ya know most will never see that part of it.

Me ~ loved it! I was so worried they would repeat the first one or ruin the first one but they did well. There was the similar flow and timeline but with changes at each turn of the story. The casting was great, they fit the parts. I jumped a few times even if it was predictable so that was good.

It's a disaster movie with a few small stories, some left a mystery. Left it open to another movie.

We are A-Listers so we aren't paying per movie ~ that said this might be one I will go see again in theater because tv will never feel the same.

Considering that a few days earlier I saw "Longlegs" which for 2/3 (was done in acts) was a great movie with potential to be the next Silence of the Lambs, and then they turned left and ruined it all. I was happy to leave a movie that didn't betray me at the end. 😐

Any cameos from the original cast?
Conventionally, even if it's a "standalone sequel," one of the characters has a tie to an original character. And while that's not true in the case of Twisters, the film does include someone actually related to an OG star. James Paxton, the son of the late Bill Paxton, makes a cameo appearance as a disgruntled motel guest. "It's an Easter egg for the fans of Dad and the original," James Paxton told EW recently.

Saw it on opening night and I loved it.

Just read an article about the movie and all the "nods" to the first movie in this movie. I can't remember all of them but some were using "Dorothy" technology, her white tank top and khaki pants (just like Jo in the first movie), Bix Paxton's son as the angry motel guest (said they were so happy to have him in the movie to connect with Bill), the red pick up truck. It was an interesting article. Here is some of it. Loved the soundtrack too!

This might be thought of as a spoiler so....

I thought Helen Hunt was going to be in the movie. I felt they kept alluding to Kate's mom as though she was going to be Jo from the first movie. They made it seem like they had a strained relationship because of her storm chasing, like her mom did not approve.

When they finally showed Kate's mom she came out of the shadows and I was surprised it was not Helen Hunt.

I can only assume they did this on purpose.

Here I am, reporting back.

Looks like I’ll be the only one to say this, but I HATED it! It was exactly what I feared it would be. It was the exact same movie, just with different actors. You could totally tell which new character was each character from the original. Also, they reused lines from Twister and it was so, so cringy.

The D box seats were cool, but very gimmicky.

My daughter liked it, because she didn’t remember much from Twister. I decided not to disown her for that fact lol

I think it stands ok if you haven’t seen Twister.

So are none of the characters are tied to those from the original?
From what I’ve read in this thread it seems to be a refilling of the original with modern tech.

Has anyone heard why Helen Hunt didn't come back for this?

We saw it in an imax last night... it was quite the experience. I really enjoyed it. Will want to see it again when it comes to streaming.

I saw it today in our 4dx theater, all the evening shows were sold out on Sunday for the rest of the week so grabbed the 4pm which also was sold out. Deadpool goes into that theater on Thursday so they only had in the 4dx for a week. It was amazing in the 4dx, the wind was blowing, the seats were shaking and the water was spraying you and it was just so much fun. I thought they did a good job with the story line, I’m hoping it will come back into the 4dx theater so I can see it again once Deadpool has its run in there.

No

No, it is a new story about tornadoes with similar timeline.

"Director Chung didn't believe Hunt's character fit the story he tried to tell, failing to hatch a logical way to integrate Jo into the story. “I just felt like that is not what I want to see Jo Harding doing years from now,” Chung said. “Right after seeing that first film, I imagined, ‘What is Jo Harding up to now?’ She’s out there chasing storm, not at the farm complaining that her daughter’s not calling her. And so that was really the basis of why, ‘OK, it’s got to be someone else.’”

Saw it today and really enjoyed it.

I saw the original, but I don't remember all movies I see. So I didn't think of the original at all.

Loved the girl main character.

And it was good to see Maura Tierney again.

Looks like there could easily be a sequel. I'd enjoy that.

I cannot figure out why they even made Twisters in the first place as a sequel to Twister. My mother saw Twister when it came out on video and she thought it was very unappealing and I could never figure out why Twister was a hyped up movie when it came out in the 90's? I think why people expect Twisters to become a hit movie is so they can attract new fans of Twister and with Twisters fans who watched Twister can expect the exact same thing with Twisters

Twister was a fun action movie. Our family has watched it many times (including in theaters when it first came out in the 90s).

And the new movie isn't a sequel.
