Anybody ever get these shots for Hep A&B? I've heard it can be very expensive if your insurance company doesn't cover it.

Yes we got them when we went to Mexico last year. It is a series of 3 shots .The first 2 are a month apart and the last one is 6 months later. Our medical covered it.
I travelled to mexico before and got extremely ill not sure what from) but I didn't want to take that chance again.

good question as we are taking a cruise next Dec and were wondering the same thing we are stopping in Nassau and at Castaway Kay on our Disney cruise.

The cost of Twinrix is around $60 per shot. It would be best to check with your insurance company first if they will cover for it. You can ask your local pharmacy for the DIN number for the product and then call the insurance company.

it is covered by our insurance so that isn't an issue I am just curious if it is recomended for where we will be or if we will be fine at those 2 stops we make on our cruise.

My insurance doesn't cover... and that would add up for my DW and I!

When in doubt about whether you need it, ask your doctor or visit a travel clinic $$.

Check the CDC and Health Canada website and see iff there are any advisories for the areas you'll be in.

I have had it..but it was covered as I worked in a high risk workplace.

I had to pay for it, and as a student, that was very expensive! I got the accelerated version of the injections.....One a week for 3 weeks straight and than again 6 months later. Honestly, well worth it and I don't regret it. When travelling to higher risk countries, it does save you peace of mind....

We all got it(DH, DD12 and me) it is aprox 60 as said above and the series of three(you are somewhat covered after the initial dose) we got ours for travel to Mexico and next month we are cruising. We want to be sure and it only takes one cube so...not very many ins co. cover this but always worth the try ( ours did but I would've done it anyway) you may not intend to ingest 'local' stuff but you need to be really careful as my sister became really ill a few years ago quite by accident. Besides then once covered by the drug you are good for a LONG time period, no worries!! Good luck and if you don't get it make sure any beer or bottled water comes to you with the cap secure, YOU remove it. Most establishments are great but you know it only takes one.
