Twin Bed Configuration?

My TA booked us for two twin beds (mother/daughter trip). Actually she has on the paperwork two double beds, but I checked the website and found out they are twin beds not doubles.

I'm just wondering what the room layout would look like as the floor plans all show queen beds. Will they have one side against a wall?

Would my mom and I be more comfortable if I switched it to a queen bed and I let her sleep on it and I take the sofa?

Sounds like your TA has never been on a DCL ship. You don't say which ship you are cruising on. The rooms below category 3 have a queen bed and a couch that folds down to a twin. Some have a pull down bunk that is also a twin above the couch. The queens on the Magic & Wonder can be split into 2 beds that are a bit smaller than twins. The Dream & Fantasy's queens cannot be split at all. The head of the bed is against the wall.

I'm on the Wonder in a Deluxe Inside stateroom.

Would the sofa be bigger or about the same as the seperated queen bed?

I guess if we don't like them seperated we can put them back into a queen and I can sleep on the sofa.

I travel usually with my mom as well. We've done it both ways - where we have them do the two twins (basically they just put the nightstand in between the two beds rather than on the side like it is) and with her in the pushed together twins and me on the sofa-bed.

My preference is actually the sofa-bed. At least on the Wonder and Magic. On the Dream the beds can't be split - its ONLY a queen.

Mom didn't mind the beds set up as two twins - but I feel like the room is more spacious when the beds are together - felt cramped to me when they are separated. And I actually find the sofabed quite comfortable.

Thanks!

I think she will be more comfortable in a queen.

I slept on the sofa last time I was on the Wonder in 2000. I'm sure it will be fine again.

My sister(27) and I(45) shared a room this past Oct and had the beds split into twins. This was an inside stateroom 11A. Here is a picture:

We are both 6'+ and the twins worked fine for us. They are longer then the sofa, but a little more narrow. We just didn't fit lengthwise on the sofa bed. The bed on the right was up against the wall, and the other had access from both sides. Hope this helps!

When can you request the twin bed configuration? Before or after you get on the ship? Thanks

Thank you for posting that pic and for everyone responding. After all my cruises I've never had the bed split. I'm traveling with my mom next month and I'm so happy we don't have to share a bed.

Would you just tell your room steward the sleeping arrangements?

It works even better if you place each bed against the wall and the two bedside tables in the middle. Much more room, and suiitcases can go at the end of each bed. That's what my mom and I did for our 15 night Panama Canal trip last Jan.

That works much better than in a cat 9 or up with the bed in the middle of the room layout.

Not sure if you can request before, but I have had the stateroom host/hostess ask my preference on arrival previously on the Wonder.

You can request before you arrive to have the beds split on the Magic or Wonder, or you can find your stateroom host on your first day and ask them to split the beds. You can also let the host know that you need the sofa bed made up, if you choose to go that route.

If you lift the "twin" beds a bit (they're not very heavy), you can stick suitcases underneath them.

As noted, the bed on the Dream does not split.

You can request the split beds before or after boarding. If before, just call DCL (TA will need to do this if one was used) and they will add the request to your reservation. If after, just ask stateroom host.

You can do the split big bed or you can keep one big bed and do the sofa flip to have the second bed. Actually the flipped sofa bed is a bit bigger than the bed that results from the split of the big bed.

Or on any cruise ship, the queen bed splitable to 2 twins is pretty much an industry standard, which is why the NON-splitable beds on the Dream and Fantasy have been so controversial on this board.

Agreed. We always have at least ocean view if not veranda with the beds in the middle of the room. so my feelings on the room feeling more crowded with the beds split is based on that. Would not be so bad if we booked inside where beds are on the back wall. But we don't.
