TWILIGHT vampire book!!!!!

I took DD to see Twilight yesterday afterschool. To be quite honest we are on the fence about it. We didn't hate it but we didn't love it either, we fall in the like catagory. We won't go see it again but we will get it when it comes out on DVD. We both agreed that the book was so much better. The movie was low budget and you could really tell. I felt that some parts were really cheesy ( which we knew going in) and the special effects were lacking. With all of that I will say that I thought they got the casting right:thumbsup2 We both LOVED Robert as Edward - I thought he was perfect since he was first announced. I liked Kristen more then I thought I would and I loved Charlie and Jacob! And I near fainted when Dr Carlise Cullen walked in the hospital room -:cloud9: Yummy:love: I really like Jackson but I didn't feel like they got Jaspers character right - what was with that look on his face - definately not how I pictured Jasper and his reaction to being around humans in the book. All in all it was ok - not great for us but not horrible either. I'm sure it will do well at the boxoffice - I just hope it does well enough to get a bigger budget for New Moon:)

Oddly enough one of the things I didn't have a problem with was Jasper.

In Twilight Jasper was still very much struggling with being around humans. Very unsure of himself, and of the Cullens life style. He is also extremely protective of Alice.

I think he just looked beyond tense all the time..as he should. They really kinda drove that home in the kitchen scene when Alice said.."It's ok Jasper..you won't hurt her.":rotfl:

And I loved when they were getting on the bus after the field trip and Alice excitedly says to Bella.."Are you gonna be riding with us?"
When Edward say NO..Alice looks disappointed, and Jasper just gives her a look like...Alice are you crazy?? What am I gonna do with you??:rotfl:

I think where the problem comes in is we didn't get to see Jasper finally relax a little. In the book, he never really even speaks to Bella until the Phoenix hotel scene and all that was cut to nothing!!

On a side note..DD and I thought a great ending for the Twilight movie would have been just a little beyond the prom scene. Like maybe FF a little to Bella's birthday party, and have her get the paper cut, then Jasper lunge at her..fade to black.

But I do like how they set up for the Victoria drama the way they did.

I would love to see Taylor Lautner continue on as Jacob. He just seems so perfect for the role. If they can make Hagrid look like a giant in the HP movies, why can't they do the same with Jacob? He has to look what, 6' 5", they should be able to do that easily.:confused3 I thought one of the best parts of the movie was the look Edward and Jacob gave each other at the prom. It was perfect. They both fit perfectly in their roles.

I agree but I do feel Jasper relaxed finally at the baseball game- when he twirls the bat.. all of the girls swooned in our theater! :)

Has anyone mentioned the line when Renee says "You have protection right?" or something like that..... :lmao: :rotfl2:

I am an intruder here, having never read the books, but my DD9 wants to read them, and I'm just not sure they are okay for her age yet.

She is a high level reader, and we have trouble finding things that interest her enough but are not too mature. She's read all the Harry Potters and loved them. So some violence a little scary is okay. But I don't want her to read it yet if it's TOO scary or too risqué for her age.

Can someone tell me if they'd be appropriate? Trust me, I'm no book banner. But I see no reason to push kids beyond their innocence before they are ready. She can read it in a couple of years if it's too much.

Thanks!

P.S. I could just read them first, but if I bring it in the house and then say no she'll be more bummed.

I just got back. I saw it this afternoon.

Things I loved:
1. Charlie...perfect actor; perfectly played. Shotgun=:rotfl:
I think Bella's mom was played pretty much how I pictured her too.
2. The Cullen House and Edward's bedroom....beautiful! So much better than I pictured in my head.
3. The three evil vamps...better than I pictured in my head.
4. The Volvo sqealing in front of Bella to rescue her from a potential rape...perfect. I had a big grin on my face b/c that was just how I pictured that scene.
5. Jacob and his dad...perfect actors for those characters. I liked Bella's chemistry with Jacob in this movie...esp. the last scene at the prom. She's so comfortable with him.
6. Cameo by SM. I wondered, "Hey what's SM doing there? Oh yeah, it's her story!"

Things that disappointed:
1. I felt like I hardly saw the Cullen family. Rosalie's personality came through stronger than Alice's! :guilty: I missed having Alice as Bella's close friend in this movie.
2. Seems like Bella and Edward just fell in love too fast without leading up to it. It left out so much of their discussions in the book. I wanted to see so much more than I did.

Overall, not as good as the book, but ok. I wonder if people who see this movie without reading the book will love the story as much as the fans of the book. I think the movie left out a lot of what made us fanatics in the first place.

Your list is very similar to mine. Although, I didn't like the two-seater volvo! LOL

I loved Bella's house. It was SO much what I pictured. I lived on the coast of ORegon for awhile and they really captured that feeling. Very accurate.

I forgot...one more thing I liked was when Edward kicked up the apple and caught it in his pale hands....a nod to the cover of Twilight, which made me smile.

Yeah, the town of Forks is the unsung character in this movie. It was perfectly portrayed.

It's official!!!

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES
TWILIGHT SEQUEL - NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON."

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

BTW, just got back from seeing the movie with DMom. She loved it! It was very surprising, she doesn't really enjoy this time of film, so that was nice. She wants to read the books now. :goodvibes
DSister wants to see it too, so I'll probably going again sometime next week.

Oh.. I will say, I could watch Robert Pattinson peel a pile of potatoes for two hours.. the boy is GORGEOUS.

:rotfl:
I must say, I agree with you on that! That boy could do the simplest, most mundane thing for hours straight and I'd be more then ok with just watching him the entire time.

So I attended the "prom" at the View Point Inn which is where the Prom scene in the movie was filmed. They did a FANTASTIC job of recreating the scene in the movie, including actual props!

Fantastic pictures! That looked like so much fun and you look wonderful :goodvibes

Oh gosh, that is SO exciting!

DH and I went this morning and loved it...plan on possibly going again tomorrow!!
First off, I was pleasantly surprised. I went in with low expectations and was glad that the movie was actually really good. I came out really liking Kristin Stewart as Bella, I've always had reservations, but felt she really worked.

Though I STILL feel that Nikki Reed is such a poor choice for Rosalie. I am a huge fan of hers, but I know the only reason she got chosen was because she and Catherine Hardwick are really good friends. She is just too wrong for the role...
of course I had to be totally nit picky while watching, but luckily allowed myself to just stop and enjoy it and came out REALLY enjoying it...

IMHO I wouldnt let my DD (9) read them but I did take her to see the movie. The books have a lot of sensuality in them and are more raw and 3 dimensional than a movie. You can read their thoughts/feelings/moods. Movies are subjective. That being said, I do know some parents that let their children this age read them.

The most painful line in the movie, for me, was when Esme says to Rosalie after Rosalie drops the vase (Point of irritation on it's own for other reasons), "Clean it up... NOW." Gimme a break :rolleyes2

But yes, there are many things to nit-pick and I'm also trying to be good. But that line sorta irritated me.
