TWILIGHT vampire book!!!!!

I was surprised by how much I really loved it- I guess I am a cynic and didn't want to get my hopes up if it bombed.... I think that with the limitations of squishing a long book into two hours it was wonderfully done.

Rob Pattison was amazing. One thing I felt was that without being in Bella's head (because the book was told 1st person from her perspective) the movie missed some of her motivation (for lack of a better word) - although I think Kristen Stewart handled her material wonderfully.

It is to the movies credit that I was enthralled enough to hardly notice what scenes were missing from the book while I was watching it on screen.

I guess I can give my review. I'll start with the bad. The scene where Bella walks into biology and pauses in front of the fan and Edward makes this horrible face...that was the worst scene in the entire movie.

:rotfl:
I think we can all agree on that one! Rob's face was hillarious!:rotfl:

Oh My God.

I was seriously planning to go to the movie today by myself. I overslept, and by the time I woke up it was way too late to take DD to school today.

Do you think 11 is too young to see the movie????? Ok, she just turned 11 yesterday, but still, she's 11. :confused3

We're taking our DD8 tonight....

I haven't posted to this thread but have been following it since August when I read the series and became completely obsessed with it.

As for my review, I knew going into it that the book wouldn't capture what I had in my mind but I really wanted to have an open mind about it. Knowing how disappointed I've been with the Harry Potter movies, I really tried to like this but I'm not sure that I did. I thought Rob was too scary and really didn't capture the beauty of Edward. For some reason it looked like he was wearing lipstick which really distracted me. His angst was completely apparent when he was around Bella but I didn't ever see the side of him that showed that he had fallen in love with her and couldn't be without her. Kristen did a better job than I expected. From the previews she sounded so monotone, but didn't come off like that completely in the movie.

One of the scenes that bothered me was when Edward met Charlie - they shook hands. In the book they never did or I think Charlie would have noticed Edward's cold marble hands. Another scene that got me thinking was why did Alice, Jasper and Bella get to the hotel during the day - wouldn't someone notice that. Although they did pull up under an overhang so I guess it was dark when they went into the hotel. And why did Edward have on sunglasses the day they walked into school together? It couldn't have been sunny or he wouldn't have been with her.

I did like the baseball scene a lot and I actually liked Jacob in this but am not a big fan of his in the books (definitely team Edward).

I know these are really nit-picky things and I'm sure when I see it again I'll like it better but right now, overall, I didn't love it. And I saw it with a friend that had just read Twilight last weekend - she hasn't read the other 3 books yet. She definitely had some questions when it was over - especially how it was left.

I saw it this morning at 10:45am with my DSIS. Thank goodness we arrived an hour earlier and had our tickets in hand! There was already a line and the movie was showing in 3 theaters and was sold out till 11pm tonight!! Lot's of teenagers, but a lot of moms too! I didn't feel too old!LOL I wore my Twilight T-shirt and got lots of compliments. Everyone was pretty good during the movie although I had to tell one girl to "shut it" when she was commenting on every scene so loud! She shut up and I enjoyed the rest of the movie with quiet.;)

I loved it!! I was really nervous that it was going to be cheesy and not have a lot of the book in it but it did. I am so happy but I need to see it again. I am still soaking it in. I can't believe I saw it already! I hope they make New Moon soon!! I need more Twilight on screen!!! I really appreciated how they really tried to get most of the book into the movie. I loved Rob and Kristen and thought they did a great job. I loved everything about it, even the things that weren't like the book.

Hey all- I went to the Midnight showing last night and...... WOW!!:thumbsup2 *******SPOILERS*************

The Good:

* We got there at 8:30 and there was already a HUGE line- sat in the theater for THREE hours waiting.. you want to talk tension..... by the time we hit 11:50 people were clapping, screaming, stomping, shouting.... it was CRAZY!!! BUT it was SOOOO fun!!!! We all did the wave!

*I liked the movie opening.. loved how they did it. Its the only time you see "them" hunt sort of speak...

"I LOVED when the Cullens walked into the Cafeteria.... our theater ERUPTED when they all walked in.. it was AWESOME!!! As soon as Edward showed his face, the sreaming was at an all time high! BUT everyone always stopped quickly so we didnt miss anything, which was nice!

*Loved the kitchen scene at the Cullens house, having them all try to cook for Bella, and its Italian!! LOL :lmao:

*The first kiss and the spider monkey comment/scene - LOVED them!!

*LOVED the baseball game- looked like SO much fun!!

*LOVED Charlie, Mike, Eric, and Jacob!! The look between Jacob and Edward....gave me chills!!

*Charlie cleaning his gun...

*Loved how they ended the movie.... leads you to New Moon...

Ok... the BAD...

*The Van scene.. loved ths song they put with it... but they had that all wrong. He stays with her for a bit, and then is at her side at the hospital bed. He also talks to Tyler in the hospital "No blood, no foul.."

*Where are the scenes with Bella fainting, and also when he blocks her truck in the parking lot???

* Biology field trip- WTH??? Enough said- just seemed out of place.

*Didnt Bella ditch them at the airport in the bathroom? That whole lead up was cut down to nothing!!!

*Alice helping Bella put her dress on and surprising her to go to the Prom... completely cut to her coming down the stairs to Edward.

THE UGLY

*Ummmm I agree it was choppy. You just kind of jumped from one scene to another with not alot of explanation.

* We did NOT have the HP Trailer before hand.... dont have a clue why not.

*The UNBORN trailer was completely unneccessary for this age group-just to intense I feel. JMO.

*Our movie theater didnt do anything special... just thought maybe cutouts of the characters, or contests.. something... but, no.

There ya go... over all, it was great! If I hadnt read the books, I may not have understood it all. I will probably see it with my mom this weekend again.

Amy

You took the words right out of my mouth. I felt that too. Loved the angst of Edward - Rob did a GREAT job and will forever be Edward Cullen to me.

About 30 minutes before the movie began, a women got up in our theatre and asked everyone to please "not scream throughout the movie" and then had everyone get their screams out before the movie began. I thought she was funny but it worked for the most part.........heard a couple of awwww's and of course everyone gasped anytime a Cullen was on the screen.

lord we had the wildest bunch of witches I ever saw in my life and I am using the term "witches" to be nice...my friend was there at 5pm and was first in line...I got there a little after and we waited all that time with my dd, her dd's and niece and everyone was getting in line and being really nice and giving everyone space till 8pm when people starting showing up and getting in line with people who had already been there and not just one or 2 people...5 at a time for each person and our little space quickly became invasive and to boot they had us lined starting at the side of the theater and all these little teenie boppers would think they were slick and go over and stand to the side of us or up by the ticket window and as the night progressed they even went over by the doors and they were screaming and when they started walking us to the doors they all started running and I thought they were going to barrel over us...they werent prepared for this at all..it was really scary for a couple minutes but when they opened the doors they decided to only let a small group at a time go in and they actually let our whole group in and down to the theater before they started letting the rest in...when they came in they were screaming and wouldnt stop but honestly when the movie started they all were very good and only screamed at appropriate times and it didnt last forever...haha my friend had to go bathroom during the fight scene between edward and james and someone had put a plastic serving tray down on the floor and she stepped on it and slid and fell over on top of this girl and she screamed bloody murder:rotfl2: OMG we laughed so hard I thought I was going to choke...that was the best thing ever...anyways the movie was really good and I cant wait till Monday to see the figures for the weekend....:thumbsup2

I wouldn't let DD13 go see it at midnight last night, on a school night... so I'm picking her up from school in an hour and a half and we're going to a 4 p.m. showing. Can't wait!

I can't help myself, I read all the reviews here, spoilers and all, but it didn't spoil it for me. It's kind of helped me go in with a more open mind, and know what to expect and not to expect too much. I think I'm going to love it!

:woohoo: :dance3: :hyper: Can't wait!

I am most disappointed in the fact that they NEVER say......I Love you!!!! I really really wanted them to say that.....:guilty: :guilty:

Also, I thought the movie skipped a lot of important elements. I wish it was a bit longer:)

I have to add a comment about one of my favorite scenes that no one else has mentioned. After Edward rescues her from the thugs and stares them down...he and Bella are in the car and his facial expression and voice when he tells her to distract him so he won't turn the car around are perfect. He was so angry and disturbing. I loved it.

I'm going again tonight at 10...can't wait.

And last but not least...the waitress at the Port Angeles restaurant? Of course Edward didn't look at her, she looked ridiculous and not pretty at all.

.

I agree her hair was ridiculous!!!

I tried not to have expectations walking into the movie but I must have because I was disappointed. I felt the script was not written very well and it could have been tightened up to allow for a more natural progression. It was like they wanted certain lines from the book in the film and just found ways to work it in there. The part that I feel shows this the most is when Bella admits she knows edward is a vampire and she says she's not scared. Well, Edward starts running around screaming she has to see him in daylight. :confused3 That part was ridiculous to me and seemed just a strange way to work in that aspect.

And I don't know if anyone mentioned the make up yet??? I swear to god it's like they did the make up themselves... their face was so white it looked almost clownlike and their necks were all flesh colored... And sometimes Edward had darker skin then Bella- particularly when he was kissing her.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film and giggled all the way through it. But you could tell this was done on a shoe string budget and I wished they would have held off for a bigger budget... I loved the book and the story but it wasn't translated as well I would have liked.

Please don't flame me, there were some good aspects of the movie I just don't need to vent about the great stuff! :goodvibes

Ok..I don't know what the heck was going on with me last night, but everything I said about the movie before..I take it all back!!
Well almost everything...

But seriously..we just got back from seeing it a second time, and it was like I was watching a different movie! I got chills several times this go round..even cried once or twice!!

I don't know if it was the hype combined with the late hours and my talking friend beside me;) , but I am so very glad we didn't wait to see it again.:lovestruc

I still wish a few things hadn't been left out...mainly just the development of Alice and Bella and of course the entire re-working of Bella's escape to make a run for James, but I'm much more satisfied with the Bella/Edward dynamic.

Also I really appreciated even more the way that Rob handled Edward's progression from completely tense..kill Bella at any second, to finding more confidence and feeling more at ease.
I mean you could really see AND feel the change in tension as it progressed on. I just felt like he did a fantastic job.

All of the cast did. Just fabulous!!:cloud9:

We have plans to see it again Thanksgiving with my sister, but I don't know if I'll wait that long.:cloud9: :lovestruc

Just got back from a second time...... loved it even more!!! The 4:30 show was packed, and when we walked out the 6:30 had lines all the way to the lobby!

I agree about the make-up- in certain parts it was a bit odd. Also I have to say Charlie has a real drinking problem....:lmao: I swear every shot was with him and his beer! LOL

I got to relax during the second time seeing it, and it was nice to process it more this time- last time I was just goo-goo-gaa-gaa over all the gorgeous men!:rotfl:

Anyone else see it a 2nd time today?

Amy

Just got in from the movie.

I thought it was good. DH said it was "pretty good".:flower3: I am glad I read the book before though because DH kept asking me questions through it.:headache:

I wont go see it again. I think there were things missing as others have said. I loved Charlie (hilarious), Jacob, Alice, Rosalie, James and Carlisle. Edward and Bella--ehh just okay. Jasper scared the crap out of me. :rotfl:

Loved the ending to lead the way for the next installment. Cant wait.

Loved the baseball game scenes and the kitchen scene, oh and the kiss. There is chemistry there for sure.

Why can't you take her to school late? Personally, I wouldn't take an 11 yr old. Too much "oh you're the only one for me and I'd die without you" but that's just my

yea, after I thought about it, I knew she would be utterly bored and embarrassed by most of the movie.

I didn't take her to school because they had 1/2 day and she would've had like 45 min's left by the time we got there. Wasn't enough incentive for me to get dressed. :rotfl: She's a straight A/honor roll student, so I don't sweat her missing a day here and there.

We're taking our DD8 tonight....

Dang. I stayed home 'cause I thought she'd be bored the whole time. Now I have to work tomorrow, then her birthday party, and I'll have to wait till Sunday to see it.

I can't wait to see the scenes where Edward is sparkly. :lovestruc

Okay...stupid question. I have yet to see the movie but have read all the books and have seen the trailers.

What is this story line with someone getting killed in a factory? Did I skip over that in the book or did they make up something for the film?

Oh man! Same here! I just got back from seeing it again and it was a completely experience than yesterday! Probably because I didn't have Debbie Downer's with me...
Seriously, I loved it this time around! And the pacing seemed to be much better, it seemed much longer than it did yesterday.
The crowd was awesome too, much more fun than yesterday. They screamed everytime the word Twilight popped up on the screen, the sighed, they awed, it was awesome and so much fun!:goodvibes
My mom wants to see it, so I'll probably be watching it again tomorrow...yay! I'm so in love with this movie, seriously...

BTW, DBF didn't enjoy it very much. Though he did like Charlie and his pepper spray jokes. :rotfl: However, he did a very romantic thing...he kissed me during the prom scene right when Edward kisses Bella. It was perfect...:cloud9:
