When I read the books and the description of Edward was this incredibly handsome young man, I was very interested to see what young stud would be chosen for the movie role. I was surprised when I saw the first picture of Patterson. Not what I would call incredibly handsome, but okay. I see Twilight books and movies as pure entertainment and fluff. Nothing that is going to change anyone's lives, but to keep them amused for a time. If the newer generation finds these two good looking and good actors, great! I'm sure some of the actors/actresses of my time and before are now looked at as a little stiff and bumbling.

I agree with you. He was not at all what was described in the book, IMO. And I have pet several horses this morning already. It does help.

I agree, they do often seem uncomfortable, but I saw him on Leno one night, and he was actually very funny and kinda charming. I was surprised, as I can't stand the whole Twilight thing, but I enjoyed his interview. Kristen was good way back when in Panic Room with Jodie Foster. I haven't actually watched her in anything else.

However.....can even the Twi lovers agree that Kristen Stewart needs an image consultant to coach her on interviews?! I know she's supposed to be a brooding artist, I get it....but it's PAINFUL to watch her do interviews. I can't tell if she's just very very self conscious or she's aloof & being snotty.

I just don't get it all. More than anything else, I don't understand the YA genre. Why can't teens read the same books adults read?? OK, I suppose there could be an argument made that they need "age appropriate reading material".

But since when does "Age Appropriate" = shallow, trite, cliched & astoundingly poorly written?? Seriously, Stephanie Meyer is a disgrace to writers.

ETA: I'm as ghostly looking as they come (aside from the freckles) and I'm not at all offending by the pasty comments. There's a difference between being pale & looking like death warmed over.

I also agree with your assessment of YA fiction. I talk to so many parents who want to develop strong, mature readers, yet give them books, such as Twilight, that hardly qualify as legitimate prose.

I find it lame to hate people just because they are awkward. Do you hate someone because they walk funny too? Are they hurting anyone?

I love them all the more for it and find it refreshing that they aren't like everyone else in Hollywood. Who needs cookie cutter blondes with fake ****s when you can have people that don't take themselves and Hollywood so seriously.

Yeah, Kristen is just so awful, that's why she won Best Actress at the Milan film Fest for her role in Welcome to the Riley's .

I have to agree with both of these. Also I find Kristin and Rob both really hot. But then again I don't like big beefy guys with fake tans. I like skinny, pale guys. But everyone has different ideas of what they consider attractive I guess Also I think Kristin is a good actress. She is amazing in Adventureland and its actually one my favorite movies of the past 5 years. Sure the Twilight movies are horrible and I personally think they both know it and just play up to the ridiculous horrible scripts and cheesiness. I'd much rather see some like Kristin who is naturally awkward (much like I am) rather than more of these annoyingly bubby girls. Not everyone is like that. SO she doesn't like interviews and award shows, so what? Ok off soapbox now

There were worst things being said than Robert's f-bomb, the only difference was that his wasn't caught by the censors so I guess it was their fault. I'm not lumping all YA fiction into this, just a lot of the more recent stuff. I don't see how any avid reader would give their child Stephanie Meyer over Salinger, Blume, Hinton, C.S. Lewis, or any countless other authors/works.

Ill-legimate prose isn't a YA phenomenon. There's plenty of adult book garbage to go around. Sookie Stackhouse anyone? Plenty popular, but not exactly award winning writing, simply "fun".

I think YA books serve a purpose. Not quite adult, not quite child. It speaks to them on their teenage level. Harry Potter was supposed to be YA and look how that turned out. Generally YA books deal with younger main characters, I don't see a problem with a genre geared like that.

As a English Literature major, one of my pet peeves when I was in college were scholars that look down on young adult and/or popular fiction.

That doesn't mean I like Twilight. It never appealed to me. But, I found Harry Potter to be very entertaining and spoke to me on multiple levels. Certainly a little bit of the prose was awkward here and there, but the story itself was compelling. Charles Dickens? Boring (except A Christmas Carol). F. Scott Fitzgerald? Irritating. D. H. Lawrence? Oh, please just kill me. J. D. Salinger? Never finished reading Catcher in the Rye because I hated the character of Holden Caulfield so much.

I'd prefer Neil Gaiman or Douglas Adams any day of the week. Plus there are many, many children's literature books and authors that are very good. Lois Lowry, Mildred D. Taylor, Roald Dahl, Gary Paulsen, etc.
