When I lived in NJ there was no Camden Waterfront and just the name Camden could strike fear in the heart of the bravest man. Now I understand there is a concert venue, a ballpark and an aquarium. My question is: is the Waterfront, the Tweeter Center in particular, a safe place? Should one be nervous about attending a concert there if they are unfamiliar with the area?

I've seen a few concerts there but I prefer PNC bank arts center (on the parkway in monmouth county).

The actual waterfront is very nice but about 2 blocks away is typical Camden (uber scary).

We've been to a few shows there, Heavy police prescence in the immediate area and safe, but driving in and out of town doors are locked and you try to not stop for red lights...

I like Festival Pier across the water.

There is HEAVY police presence before, during, and after the shows there. If you take normal precautions- lock cars, no personal possessions visible in car, walk in a group, and don't go out of the immediate area, you should be fine.

We too have been there a few times. The venue was nice enough and the area was filled with police. But like others have said, it still is Camden so be on your best guard. I guess with me being born in Jersey City and still having relatives there its not that big a deal. But I much prefer the 8 minute ride to PNC.

Would that be The Garden State Arts Center to those of us who still remember The Brendan Byrne Arena? At least Giants Stadium is still Giants Stadium.
I've got to say that the responses thus far are not setting anyone's mind at ease regarding seeing a show at Tweeter Center.

That'd be it. it changed it's name to PNC bank arts center a good 10 years ago I believe. Anything to raise some capital, I guess.

DH and I just saw Bruce Springsteen at the Tweeter last night. We go to multiple shows there, and we will continue to. Like other posters have said, there is a HEAVY police presence there before, during and after the show. (and after it makes it sooooo much easier to get out of the area when police are directing traffic)

I have never once been afraid tailgating there or parking farther away from the venue and walking.

We also brough our two kids to the Aquarium last year (they were 6 and 3) and even walked around the waterfront afterwards to look at the USS New Jersey. Again - never a fear.

If an artist you like is playing at the Tweeter, I say go for it!

Thanks Jrsy.

A few friends and me are going to see Jimmy Buffett on August 2 in Camden. It will probably be all girls. Any advice. We do not know the area. We will be staying in a hotel but not in Camden on our way home.

The so called lawn or should I say dirt at the Tweeter Center is horrible. Unless your right up against the railing, you're essentially listening to the concert through small speakers that are mounted on the center. If your close to the guard rail you'll get the sound from the stage. The ground is real steep. I much preferred to see shows at the Mann Music Center or the PNC Bank Arts Center, they're much better.

Getting in and out of Camden is pretty easy. The police are there. You can also take the water taxi from Penns Landing in Philadelphia. I don't know how effecienct that is. There is also a light rail which runs from Trenton to Camden and the Tweeter Center is the last stop. It's cheap to ride. It's only a few dollars each way. I don't know how late the last train leaves Camden. I don't think that they run extra trains during nights with concerts.

As far as your safety, you'll be fine.

that is my main concern here. like i said it is a bunch of us girls going. I live in NC and my friend from NY bought the tickets. None of us knew about the area when they were purchased.
