Tween girl clothing sizes... skinny!!

I have the same problem with my ds. 8 slims are too big in the waist but too short, even if they are adjustable waist they fall off of him.

My middle dd is at that awkward in between sizes. I buy her 00 jeans at PacSun but she has to wear a belt b/c they fall off and are so low cut. My oldest is about 5'5" and 115 and she's ok in a 1 but wears a large in t-shirts..a large? Come on, she's a toothpick with ****s:lmao: I dread trying to find bathing suits for both of them this summer. Neither one will wear a bikini and they insist on the long board shorts too. Ughh. I really feel for regular size girls...between the too small shirts and the short-shorts:sad2:

Secret is to GO NOW. I found that our last season. They will have a limited time with longer shorts and capris. Once those are sold out then it is onto the "hot" clothes that include the shorter shorts.

For swimsuits we pay the extra money and go to a sporting goods store.

Are they reg. jeans? She will not wear low rise or any other funky sizing labels. She wants just plain jeans.

Thanks for the tip, we will look.:thumbsup2

They have a few different styles.. I wear the "favorite boyfriend" and the "boy fit" -- boy fit is usually a cropped style. I hate low rise jeans, too, and the boyfriend and the boy fit are generally pretty good about being a normal rise with a little bit of a relaxed leg.

I was thinking of going this weekend so you just reaffirmed that, thanks:). Any advice on where to go? I know I can get the board shorts at PacSun(for a fortune:scared1:) but they only seem to have bikinis.

My DD11 is skinny and long bodied. So I took her shopping the other day, I ended up going in the Junior's section for tops. All the tops in the kids sections seemed wide and short.

And her feet are really narrow. She ended up getting a 6 and half in womens. She wears a size 12 in some jeans.

And is it just me, but when the shorts become available, they are all short, like really short? they may be different sizes, but when it comes to length, she couldn't wear them to school.

You got me. I have not really been "out" yet to see how much is in the stores. I know the swim suits are out now.

I need to force my dd out every weekend until she has clothes.;)

I think the best place is American Eagle.

Ive been shopping there for about 6-7 years (since i was about 13).
I'm not big but i'm not skinny by any means either. I'm 5'3 about 135-140lbs but I'm a size D cup.
AE shirts I can buy in mediums and they fit. AE shirts tend to run longer (length wise) and a little looser fit than Aero, Hollister or Aberrcombie.

AE pants are also teh only ones that fit me length wise. I buy teh short jeans and they don't drag on teh floor (finally). They have many differnt styles o fjeans. I hate low rise jeans but they have a style called AE favorite and they are a higher rise.

They also sell really cute bermuda shorts as well.

I think you should go look at 77kids or even regular AE and see if that stuff will fit her.

I think it is clothes all around. My DD just turned 12, she's about 5'4", 123lbs. (mostly muscle, she plays select softball year round) and is in a B cup. Because she is a catcher and pitcher, her shoulder and leg muscles are really built up. At Aero I buy her a large/x-large and because of the cut she wears a tank under the t-shirts. Even her UnderArmour is an adult XL. She doesn't like it skin tight.

Also, is it just me, but does anyone else think some of the styles are inappropriate, especially for tweens? I refuse to buy shirts cut down to her navel and shorts/skirts that are just below her "girl parts". She loves wearing skorts, always has, but now that she is getting older/a bigger build I can rarely find them. We found two pair last summer one was at Penny's in the plus size girls dept. and the other was a limited too pair we found at Goodwill.

My DD is only 8, but tall for her age. Even in her sizes, things are cut narrow. She is not fat. She isn't super skinny either. But, her weight matches her height--she is perfectly proportionate according to the Ped. She wears size 10 in most tops.

Pants are the worst things. She cannot wear pants from gap. She needs an 8 for length, but the regulars are way too tight and the pluses are way too huge. I have to size up and roll up the bottoms.

It's insane. If I were to buy her things from the boys' section, I'd have to size down.

My eight-year-old does not need tight clothing. :(

Well if you find where please let me know!! My daughter will NOT wear a bikini-she wanted to make our backyard pool a "bikini free zone" last year! She doesn't even like seeing other people in bikinis LOL. She likes the swim shirts which I can't find so far this year and also the longer board shorts for swimming. I was at 5 stores this past weekend and not one had anything out but bikinis. My daughter is very thin for her age but she does NOT like form fitting clothes.

I'm 5'4 and 150 pounds, and I find that I can fit into American Eagle size medium tops for everything (even with me being a D cup). It is really hard for me to find jeans, so I go to the Buckle. I love their jeans, and it seems as if they have a jean for every single body-type. They are a bit pricy, but I have about 2-3 pairs of good fitting jeans that I absolutely love.

I agree that everything is being too form-fitting today. One time I went into Forever 21 and I couldn't fit into anything in the regular store, and all the plus-sizes were way too big. I couldn't believe how tiny it was. It seems as if the clothes are too big or too small. I find that my size is the size that is usually sold out.

If you have a Roxy store near you, I saw some of the rash guards there yesterday. If you look on the net, you can find a ton of sites that sell them. Dick's Sporting goods had 1 piece suits when I was there yesterday and are starting to get board shorts in. I haven't looked at Kohl's yet, but they tend to have more conservative suits.

We went to Kohl's tonight and DD did well. She found a tankini top (bottom that fit her had a snag so I'll have to try another store), a tank top, and 2 shirts. Plus I got a $10 bonus coupon good after the 8th, so I'll use that for the bathing suit bottom. All in the juniors section, everything was either on a good sale or clearanced. :woohoo:

It was quite some time ago, but I believe it was on the View.

The black lady... don't remember her name. Any case, she was talking about buying clothes for her little kid, like 4-5yrs old. And brought in the same size in girls and in boys pants. The boys had like 3x the amount of material, little wider around the waist, pant legs were much roomier, and looked way more appropriate for a youngester to be wearing than the itty bitty little tiny girl pants.

Seriously... designers and clothings stores have some big problems in seeing what is supposed to be normal for a person. I also find this highly strange since 1/2 the population is overweight or near overweight.

I went through that same shock when DD started shopping in the teen stores a couple of years ago. She was around 11 years old, too. She had to have polo shirts as part of her school uniform for middle school, but the shirts were supposed to have a 5" sleeve length and only 3 buttons in front. Yeah right! Obviously the people who decided on the uniform code had never shopped for a tween before. The only shirts we could find that had 3 buttons in front were real boxy looking and hung on DD like potato sacks. All of the cute ones though, had like 6 or 7 buttons down the front because the style is for kids to layer with a cami underneath and they were really fitted -- not good for a girl who is starting puberty, IYKWIM.

So I was a bit in shock with all of the tight fitting clothes, but we ended up going with Hollister polo shirts that did only have 3 buttons in front and they were not too tight like the Areo shirts. A year later those same Aero polos ended up fitting DD, so either we got used to the tight style or she stretched and thinned out a bit. I don't know.

All I can say is you will get used to it as time goes on because that's all you'll find. As your DD starts to get more of that hourglass shape, the shirts will fit better. Just go a size up so it's not skin tight.

As for the pants, Aero has a size 00 short which would fit your DD.

I found some swim shorts for girls at llbean.com last night. I wish they had a store near me, so DD could try them on. I think she would love a tankini top and board shorts. She hates bikinis too, she wants to be comfortable when she swims and not worry if she is showing her girly parts!
