Tween boy hygiene question

My almost 11 year old DS uses Sure unscented deodorant. He's a kid...I don't want him smelling like a man quite yet.

My oldest (14) has Axe right now, when he remembers to use it. He also has a very nice smelling body spray from American Eagle that he wears on occasion.

I always have some sort of family friendly body wash in the shower that we can all use. Right now, it's just some Ivory stuff that smells fine for men and women. We all use the same stuff....I hate a lot of bottles in my shower!

I would also say Prell shampoo. Its a unisex smell and it does clean well.

Also, the Suave Cucumber Melon body wash is a good, clean smell that men and women can use.

I agree about the Paul Mitchell Three; it's good stuff. When DS is swimming in summer he does use it, but the daily chlorine is a blessing for him, because that is the only time of year when his head doesn't smell like a 3-days-dead possum. Believe me, the chlorine is much preferable to the grease funk of an overly-hormonal sweaty head. It's literally gamey, sweat mixed with an undertone of that sickly-sweet smell that you associate with rotting meat.

I have to agree, he can wash his head 100x a day and still have that nasty smell!

I have 21 year old who still hasn't figured out that the shower is working part of the bathroom unless I remind him.

On the other hand, our 16 year old son showers every day and his room is spotless! I think it's because he shared his room with his older brother until older sister moved out and each of them now has their OWN room. He uses Prell shampoo and (currently) Old Spice deoderant. He won't go anywhere near Axe stuff.

This is going to sound weird, but a lot of guys I know like the cucumber scent from Bath & Body Works.

Yep! That and the dancing waters scent is what my 12 year old uses. He also likes Suave hair and body wash and Degree aerosol body deodorant.

I'm just impressed your tweens are trying to smell good! Here is a conversation I had with my tween once...

Me: "Honey, I'm saying this with all the love in my heart. You stink. Go take a shower and wash your hair!"

AFTER SHOWER

Me: "Your hair is still greasy. Did you take a shower?"
Tween: "Yes."
Me: "Did you wash your hair?"
Tween: "Yes."
Me: "Did you use shampoo?"
Tween: "You didn't tell me to use shampoo!"

Yep, that's how hygiene and my tween boy get along!

I'd say that pretty accurately sums up the teenage boy smell.

Both of these are so in my home too. One of my older sons still lives at home and he helps guide the early teen.

The one converstion I over heard:

Teen: Hey can I come play xbox inyour room?

Older Bro: When was the last time you showered?

Teen: Not long ago.

Older bro: Ya mean this week? If you stink you leave!!

Teen: I don't. It's all good.

5 minutes later I hear older son fake gagging and teen is back downstairs!

My 20 yo and 14 yo sons like the new Old Spice scents. My old son likes after hours and I forget the little ones stink scent. It got both of them to shower regularly with out much issue.

Ds15 mostly Axe stuff but he doesn't have that Axe haze around him. DS17 uses Suave for Men for Shampoo and whatever deodorant I buy-usually Axe because that is what I get for DS15 who cares about that stuff. The shampoo and deodorant aren't that bad but when you get into the body spray stuff

DD15 keeps trying to get DS15 to wear Old Spice. Apparently that is the fragrance of choice among the 9th grade girls for the 9th grade boys .

That's what DFiance uses. He uses something else too but I cannot remember.

For deodorant, speedstick or something like that. I remember when I was 16ish and Axe came out and he tried it, it kind of repulsed me.

Just getting my youngest DS in the shower is a trick. I did end up buying him dandruff shampoo, because he has terrible dandruff. It does help when he uses it. My other DS uses Suave Green Apple shampoo, and either they use the bar of Ivory soap or the Lever soap, but as soon as I run out, I'm buying something a little more gentle on skin, they both have sensitive skin. I usually watch for sales on men's deodorant - they like the gel.

DS used ivory soap bar for his body and his hair which he always kept "military" short, and whatever deodorant was on sale. Once he got a job at 14 he invested in Axe and a few other manly hygiene products but was never too picky. Now at 20 he only uses the best (according to him), not sure what it is because I don't see him too often but at Xmas he sure did look and smell good

I've never been one to spend lots of money on hygiene products. I mostly use the Dove line, deodorant to conditioner to body wash and wear only two different perfumes (Chanel #5 for evenings out and Clinique Happy for daytime).

Some boys just don't care or get worked up about keeping the funk at bay. Other boys can put a girl to shame. Our one friends son 15, always showers 2 times a day, 3 if he has sports practice. He is a metrosexual in the making. If his hair doesn't spike just so, he'll wet it back down and start all over. If they are going to a 4 o'clock movie, he starts getting ready around 2, so he has plenty of time to get ready. And yes, he gets up on school days at 5, so he has plenty of time before he has to be at the bus stop at 7. This is so not a just throw something on and lets go kid.

Trust me, I had no idea how gross boys were until mine became a teen. I don't have brothers, so this is all new to me.

And frankly, the level of funk they're willing to live with is a bit disturbing.
