My DS12, when he uses it, has Axe. It's not that strong as a body wash, I hope he never wants to wear that spray that some kids spray all over themselves. I won't be able to be near him if he does!
I don't have a boy but after sniffing some of the boys hanging around my daughter, I'd say to avoid Axe. That stuff is just nasty!
...anything but Axe. Every boy that comes into this house (I have two girls) absolutely reeks...
"Tween boy" and hygiene don't belong in the same sentence.![]()
Gotta be honest- I hate Axe. Boys that I went to High School and College with thought that it made them irresistable. It made me want to vomit.
OP- your son probably picked Axe because it is "cool" and the commercials for it are very enticing to young men.
OP- I think it's best to just let him pick out whatever. If he wants to buy into the "manly" products, I'd let him, as long as you weren't dropping $10 for a bottle of shampoo! If he wants just simple, generic like products, I'd recommend DH's choices- he smells good AND is clean!![]()
My kids use regular old soap (Dial, Zest, Safeguard) and water. They both use Axe Kilo deodorant but don't overdo it so I actually like the scent. i
I'm just impressed your tweens are trying to smell good! Here is a conversation I had with my tween once...
Me: "Honey, I'm saying this with all the love in my heart. You stink. Go take a shower and wash your hair!"
AFTER SHOWER
Me: "Your hair is still greasy. Did you take a shower?"
Tween: "Yes."
Me: "Did you wash your hair?"
Tween: "Yes."
Me: "Did you use shampoo?"
Tween: "You didn't tell me to use shampoo!"
Yep, that's how hygiene and my tween boy get along!![]()
Reminds me of a Bill Cosby routine where he had to tell his children, in detail, what to do after dinner. Part of that included telling them to get into the shower, and "turn on the water." He said if he didn't tell them that, they'd just wander around the tub for a few minutes.![]()
Sounds like I need to watch some therapeutic Bill Cosby!![]()
My oldest DS - just tuned 14 Saturday - is a swimmer... He is in the pool 15 hours a week during the school year, and 30 plus hours a week during the summer...
So, the ONLY shampoo that we have found that will completely get rid of the chlorine smell is Paul Mitchell Three shampoo. He uses that daily and a couple days a week, he uses a conditioner from Suave.
The deoderant we both use is Degree Ultra Dry. Smells pretty decent and works well.
I agree about the Paul Mitchell Three; it's good stuff. When DS is swimming in summer he does use it, but the daily chlorine is a blessing for him, because that is the only time of year when his head doesn't smell like a 3-days-dead possum. Believe me, the chlorine is much preferable to the grease funk of an overly-hormonal sweaty head. It's literally gamey, sweat mixed with an undertone of that sickly-sweet smell that you associate with rotting meat.
