TWA Flight 800

With the made for tv movie coming up and the new information from investigators, I'm curious as to what your thoughts are about this flight? Terrorists? Government cover-up of accidental shooting down of the flight? Explosion as reported?

I have read that the case is going to be reopened and reevaluated. I never did believe it was an accident.

I also read about that this morning. Interesting. The fact its not just one person saying this. Its six investigators that are saying it.

Back when it happened so many people stated they saw something from the "ground/sea" go up to the plane before it exploded that it makes me wonder now.

I hope it was not a coverup....very interested to see what turns up with the case being reopened.

Nor did I and I am usually VERY far from conspiracy theories and the like, but this one never sat right with me.

There were a few pilots who flew Flight 800. One of them (who was NOT flying that day) had a wife who was an administrator at my school. Her husband knew every pilot and flight attendant who died on that flight. They never believed it was an accident either.

Our neighbor was one of the first responders. To this day he doesnt talk about it much. It really got to him.

The one command center was set up right by dh retired boss house.

Our local news accidently showed a live feed right after it happened.

We did see some of the wreckage being hauled away but it was under tarps.

I wonder about it. I know my neighbor would have the best info about it.

My heart goes out to all those who lost family members. So sad.

Native long islander here...was working as a cameraman for local news when it happened. I Don't buy the official story for a second. I believe it was shot down. By who? No idea.

I very rarely buy into conspiracy theories or think everything is a cover up but there are two I think very well could be.

One is TWA 800. I think it is very likely that it was shot down by either a terrorist or accidentally by our military.

The other is United 93. I am less convinced about that one but I think it is possible that it was shot down to prevent it from being used against another building. I really wouldn't find fault in them if that was the case though I think they should have just owned up to it from the start if it was.

My thoughts?? It killed one of my students and her mom.

I think fondly of Deirdre every July. She was buried the day of the Atlanta Olympics bombing.

I didn't have the heart to follow the story after the fact. And I absolutely will NOT be going to the movie. I'm still trying to get myself to the memorial at Smith Point Park. And one of my friends is still working up the courage to fly after Deirdre's death.

I also remember the reports of people seeing something streak up towards the plane before it came down.

I lived in NJ at the time and I remember the local news interviewing several eye witnesses who claimed they saw a bright streak head towards the plane before it exploded.

I lived in NJ at the time and I remember the local news interviewing several eye witnesses who claimed they saw a bright streak head towards the plane before it exploded.

I have a house in the Hamptons, wasn't there that night, but at least 10 people I know also said they saw a streak moving toward the plane. Like LisaR, they're all convinced it was a missile accidentally sent off during a military exercise.
