TW0 computer problems at once!

I have an old Windows 98 IBM desktop and a newer Windows XP laptop. BOTH are having problems and I'm so ticked off I could SCREAM!!

I have an extra keyboard on my laptop because I cannot stand the attached keyboard. Wednesday night (I remember because it was after AI) I tried to type on it and it wouldn't type. YUCK! I had to copy and paste other people's stuff and use smilies!

Now my desktop has the hiccups. Everytime I try to start it up it either doesn't start up or lately just comes up in safe mode.

GRRRRRR!! And for ONCE I'm home and able to post!!

Any technical people out there wanna help me before I call my "guy" on Tuesday???? HEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

For the laptop: Try powering off completely. Unplug the keyboard. Power on. Once windows boots, shut it off completely again, and plug the keyboard back in. Boot, and see if it works.

For the desktop, boot the computer, and before windows loads tap the F8 key about 2x per second until you get a menu. On the menu, choose "Last Known Good Configuration". See if that works. (in my experience, it usually doesn't, but it's worth a shot)

Nope, tried that many times.

Another thought for the laptop ... try a different external keyboard on it ... maybe borrow the keyboard from the desktop for a few minutes to test.

If the other keyboard works, then your keyboard is dead, and that's fairly cheap (<$20) to replace

I thought of that, actually priced a few today, can't use the desktop keyboard because the laptop kb is USB and the other is only PS2.

Funny, but all of the parts of the kb works BUT the keys. It's an internet keyboard and has lots of buttons, all work but the letters and number keys.
