TV setup in dorms

Does she even need a TV at school? I never saw anyone moving one in/out at our daughter's school. I thought all the students just used their laptops nowdays.

I use a smart tv but I dont watch real tv like a lot of young people

When we moved my daughter in there was an entire 40 foot dumpster full of tv boxes.

Best Buy is about the worst place you can get that kind of stuff. Online (Amazon, Monoprice) would be even cheaper but you'd have to obviously wait on delivery.

I don't buy anything at Best Buy; I've been boycotting them for over 10 years, ever since they tried to charge me an open-box return surcharge on (yep) an ethernet cable, that was still in a factory-sealed package.

If they're wireless printers, you shouldn't "need" a cable. If it's not a wireless printer, are you sure it's not supposed to be included? It's possible someone purchased the printer, decided to return it, and not put the cable back. Yes, that should be checked. Or whoever packed the box forgot to the include the cable. Usually the manual will have a page that has a list of everything that should be in the box.

Technically every printer sold now is capable of wireless connection, but as we've seen in this discussion, not every place (or every application) will allow the printer to be connected that way; sometimes you do need to connect it with a cable. They used to come with the printer, but the printer companies cheaped out and started leaving them out, in order to lower the cost of the printer and also the freight, by lowering the packing weight. Because as we all know, the printer itself is a loss-leader -- the profit center for most mfrs. is the ink.

PS: IME of lots of dorm-moving, TV's are usually more popular with guys, who tend to want them for console gaming and watching sports. Girls do tend to be more likely to use a laptop as a TV. (Certain majors, however, will often make a desktop 2nd monitor a very welcome thing. It's hellishly hard, for example, to try to compare two spreadsheets while clicking back and forth between windows on a laptop. Lots of kids will use that monitor as a TV, casting the stream from their cell phones.)

Best of both worlds... get a dock for the laptop and a large screen. Then they have the laptop to be portable, or can work in the dorm on a larger screen and use their laptop screen as a second one if need be.

Not to belabor the obvious, but I have a feeling that TV is going to be a more popular pastime with students this year than it normally is. Games and music concerts will be a lot less accessible, and most of the talking with friends while indoors is going to be happening on a screen.

FWIW, my DS23 isn't much of a sports fan, he's much more of a gamer, but online, not console games. He has never owned a TV, and the "large" one that we have at home is all of 32". DS' big splurge was a desktop monitor, but he didn't get it until he'd moved into a permanent place off-campus at the start of Junior year. He didn't want the hassle of securely storing it when he lived in a dorm and had to put everything into storage every 5 months.

FWIW, we're taking a brand new (in the box) 40" smart TV, and a table to set it on. DD's dorm is actually a 4/2 apartment with full living room, so it will be a nice addition for the girls.

Same, except she was daging or at parties She goes to a party school, at least she’s in honors as are all of her friends so they managed to keep their scholarships.
