Just what we need right before Christmas! Anyone have this happen?!??! Is it fixable????

I think that in todays world, televisions are more expensive to fix than they are to replace.

Just last week I walked into Target and they had 32 inch flat panels for $275. I bought one for my bedroom. If you lived closer, I'd have you drive over here and give you the one I replaced. It's going to the goodwill and it works fine.

I'm sorry this happened so close to the holidays. It never fails that you will have something pop up to cost you extra money at the last minute.

Are you sure it just wasn't the fuse? Usually that makes a pop sound. Try resetting it.

We have a Sony Bravia LCD that we purchased a few years ago. We had to replace the lamp last year. It was about a $100 fix, and it's still working great. We could hear the sound and even change the channel, but not picture. When we got the new lamp we were shocked at how bright the picture was. Apparently it had been dimming over time. We thought the lamp would last longer, but we're glad it was an inexpensive fix.

My old Panasonic tube TV did just that - a pop when turned on, no picture, but the sound was fine. It was the picture tube so I replaced it with a new TV.

our 60" flat screen did this a few years ago. One day we heard a "pop" and then there was a black screen. Turns out a lamp blew out and we had to order a replacement lamp. It cost about $300. I was happy to pay it, because the thought of buying another tv made me ill. It was easy to install, you can do it yourself.

If you have a DLP television it could be the lamp. They do burn out and are easily replaceable. I believe they run around $250 but it's been a while since I've checked.
