Tusker House VS Yak & Yeti

Hmm... I have a lunch ADR for TH but after seeing Chell's pictures, I'm thinking maybe I should get an ADR for Y&Y as well. Decisions decisions :)

We've yet to go to Yak and Yeti, but I can tell you we will *NEVER* go to Yak and Yeti again. ( neither of the 15 of our group ). That being said, some people seemed to like it, so to each their own. But for us, it felt like cheap food dressed up like asian food. We live in Montreal, which has a fairly large Chinatown and maybe we're spoiled, but for example, one of us had a dish that was bascially chicken nuggets in a sauce and they called it an asian meal.. I dunno...

And to add to that, we're NOT picky eaters, we actually like Rainforest Cafe ( not our FAVORITE, granted, but we like it fine enough ). Looking forward to trying out Tusker House. Have not been ever since it became a sit-down buffet.

That's why I tell people to get things other than the "normal oriental" foods. They don't seem to shine on those dishes. I haven't tried any of those and I'm honestly not going to because I know what they do shine on. I know their other dishes are so outstanding. At Yak & Yeti you have to go outside the box.

Try the steak! Maybe they can make it without gluten, and grill the shrimp instead of the tempura. I agree the ribs are good, but the steak is equally outstanding.

Also (doubt it's gluten free), the green beans (shown in one of the pics) are delish. My dd12 and I like to sit at the bar and have them for a snack.

Since we are going twice I may have to get the steak one day. Let me run over to AllEars to check out the description of the steak.

Sadly the green beans aren't gluten-free. Now I wish I had tried them last year. We just didn't have enough belly space left for them.

I don't eat seafood so the shrimp is out of question. Blech! I'm allergic anyway.

Thanks for the idea about the steak!

Go for it! :thumbsup2 Don't order things like the honey chicken, beef & broccoli or sweet & sour whatever. Those won't knock your socks off. We can tell you that the ribs and the Crispy Mahi Mahi will. The potstickers, lettuce cups and wonton dessert also will. YUM!!!

We just had breakfast at Tusker House and lunch at Yak & Yeti. I was NOT impressed with Tusker House at all. The lunch at Yak & Yeti was probably the best meal of our trip. DH had the flank steak and I had the miso salmon. I was completely surprised because I went there not expecting it to be very good.

That's fair, and as I said in my comment, to each their own and there is always a debate about ANY restaurant in the world ( for example, despite us loving Le Cellier, as many do, there are some who really don't... ).

That being said, as I mentioned, we were 15 people. We all ordered a wide range of things off the menu and though not all of them had as negative reactions to Y&Y as DW and I, none of our group of 15 were particularly impressed.

I guess that most posters here prefer Y&Y over Tusker House. My family went to both Y&Y (lunch) and Tusker House (lunch) this past January. We loved both, but if we had to choose one, my family of three (me, DH and DS-16) would choose Tusker House. I actually used to love Tusker House as a CS location and had some negative ideas/thoughts going into my experience this past trip, but I was totally suprised in a good way. We had great service at Tusker House and thought the buffet offerings were inventive, fresh and plentiful. A lot of the food is unique and it was really nice to try some new things. The samosas, and dipping sauces were fantastic, and the bread pudding...heavenly!

Y&Y is a great experience too, so I don't think you can go wrong with eating there either. The theming is really cool and our food was good too. I would go to Y&Y again, but if I had to pick just one it would have to be Tusker House.

Something I did not know that I learned last week is that Y&Y is owned by Landry's who also happens to own Rainforest Cafe. We were talking with our waitress about it & as we were on the dining plan, Y&Y has to accept $19 per meal from Disney as payment regardless of what the patron orders. I'm sure they are still making a good buck but it was interesting to hear that it is a non-Disney owned restaurant in one of the Theme Parks. Dont know if there are any others.....

Actually, there are quite a few. Though I can't give you a list myself. I know that Big River Grille and Brew Works on the Boardwalk is a franchise of its original ( which I THINK is in Chattanooga sp? ). Planet Hollywood in DTD is another good example. Someone said all restaurants in the countries at Epcot are not disney-owned, but that being said, I KNOW the the ITALIAN one specifically is not.
