Tusker House vs. Flame Tree-and the winner is.....

I went to AK last Sunday intending to try Flame Tree Barbeque just so I could make such a comparison.

The result? I chickened out and went back to Tusker House! I had just eaten there in December. And I'd do it again!

The salmon entree with rice and green beans is too good to pass up and a pretty good deal for $8. You get a large portion of salmon which isn't bad at all for counter service (as good as you'd expect at a family chain restaurant such as Appleby's). And the green beans are pretty good and plentiful also.

The fried chicken sandwich also looks good, and I don't even like fried chicken! The desserts are also worthwhile. I had a carrot cake last week, and in December split a chocolate cake three ways with my two boys -- it's that big!

Plus you can usually find a seat inside, unlike Flame Tree where there is no inside. I suspect the food there is OK too, but somebody else will have to speak for that.

We liked them both. The ribs at Flame Tree were a different CS for us. The chicken salad at TH was great! It was cool and calm inside TH, but that area of AK was very, very crowded. FT may be a less crowded way to go!

Tusker House! The menu selection is great and the portions very generous. The Flame Tree has tasty bbq meats and outdoor seating that overlooks the "river," but we prefer Tusker House!!!

Hubby (the barbecue lover) would say Flame Tree, while I (the mashed potatoes lover) would say Tusker House. They're both great - just go for whichever one you're in the mood for at the time, and you can't go wrong.

Other than to say they're both great, there's really no comparing the two since the offerings are so different. We try to eat at both during our visits. If you try TH, be sure to eat outside, to the side of the building and along the river. It is so peaceful. At FTB, try the garden out back.

Eh, really neither, I'm not terribly impressed with the selection at AK. Flame Tree is probably the worst BBQ I've ever had and we've given it enough tries, and Tusker House is just bland. If we're doing AK for the day, we make sure to eat outside of the park before and afterwards.

I so love BBQ!!!!! So Flame Tree it is.

ETA: DH loves the Safari Amber that is made by Anhauser Busch and only available at the FT. So we are both happy. ;)

Both are very good. I'm generally not a big CS fan (and we aren't all day park warriors), so at the other parks, we usually leave by lunchtime in order to eat outside the park. At AK, however, I can't wait until lunchtime in order to have to make that decision of which one to eat at that day. I know I can't go wrong since they are both so good.

Are either or both of these restaurants open for dinner when AK has evening EMH? I'd like to try both so I was thinking we could do one for lunch and one for dinner.

different, it is hard to do a straight up comparison. Just depends what I am in the mood for but I do enjoy Flame Tree very much when I want MEAT!

Arguably, these are two of the best counter service restaurants at WDW, and it's always hard to choose, but I'll take the Flame Tree.

I choose Tusker House. While the barbecue at Flame Tree was good, the serving portion of the sides was very skimpy. I really don't think we had more than 2 tablespoons of beans in our tiny cup. Tusker House was a much better value and you do feel full when you finish. I don't think I've had anything at Tusker House I did not like.

:wave2: I haven't tried FT but TH is by far my favorite CS :thumbsup2
Honestly...it's better than some of the TS restaurants.

I'll chose Tusker just because last year we timed it just right to hear one of the great steel bands while we ate lunch. Thanks for reminding me. It was yummy. The problem I have with Flame tree is the kids menu. (not my guys taste)

I loved the ribs at Flame Tree. :thumbsup2

We also sat out by the river and were just in time to see Mickey and friends doing the circuit in a steam boat.
