I went to AK last Sunday intending to try Flame Tree Barbeque just so I could make such a comparison.
The result? I chickened out and went back to Tusker House! I had just eaten there in December. And I'd do it again!
The salmon entree with rice and green beans is too good to pass up and a pretty good deal for $8. You get a large portion of salmon which isn't bad at all for counter service (as good as you'd expect at a family chain restaurant such as Appleby's). And the green beans are pretty good and plentiful also.
The fried chicken sandwich also looks good, and I don't even like fried chicken! The desserts are also worthwhile. I had a carrot cake last week, and in December split a chocolate cake three ways with my two boys -- it's that big!
Plus you can usually find a seat inside, unlike Flame Tree where there is no inside. I suspect the food there is OK too, but somebody else will have to speak for that.
