With car rental prices so high, traveling in August, I am considering renting from Turo. This would be my first time. Would either pick up at. MCO or have delivered to Drury Inn (Disney Springs). Looking for feedback on recent experiences.

Thank you😀

100% no for Turo.

DH booked a Turo rental for a wedding we were going to and less than 2 hours before pick up the owner cancelled the reservation. They emailed and said "sorry gotta cancel" and didn't even do it through the Turo system.

With any other company, like Hertz, etc, they'd have a replacement lined up, but because Turo is a contract company, owners can cancel with no notice and there's no backup in place.

We had to scramble to find an alternative at 7 in the morning on a weekend.

Have never used them but renting a car from a private party can have all sorts of things go wrong. Seem to recall some older threads where people talked about disputes over minor wear/tear issues as well as the comment above about the party suddenly cancelling and you are left without transportation. There can also be complications regarding pick-up & drop-offs which you won't have when renting from the typical brand name rental companies.

Turo experience is going to vary greatly based on who the owner of the vehicle was.

My only tip is to make sure you price in the insurance because it's pretty expensive with Turo.
This is especially important since you're personal insurance probably will not cover it, your credit card insurance definitely won't cover it and unless the owner does it as a business, their insurance won't cover it.

I did a 10 day minivan rental in Turo last year over Labor Day weekend.

Picked up directly in closest MCO parking garage (to southwest terminal) using a lockbox attached to the car. Car was in great shape - owner sent me photos of the car, where it was parked, and instructions during our flight. It also had a toll tag that we used with no additional charges. Drop off was a bit more stressful only because the entire parking garage was full (people were illegally leaving cars in fire lanes -- it was insane), but I finally was able to stalk someone to their spot. Took photos of the car and uploaded to the app after parking.

Insurance is insane in the app, but I double checked with my local State Farm about private and person-to-person rentals and that was actually covered under my current insurance.

The biggest hesitancy I have in doing it again, is that Turo has added additional fees (airport/general/etc) that now seem to make even the lowest priced cars more expensive than renting from Dollar/Budget/etc. I'll use Turo if it is significantly cheaper, but for the same price I'm going to the rental counter every time.

I have booked through Turo for my December trip and will try to come back here to tell the experience.

So far, good communication with owner. The car will be parked at the airport economy parking lot and I will use the airport parking shuttle to get there and back.

We've used Zipcar and Gig and by far our preference is Gig.

Zipcar has it's own parking stalls, which is the biggest draw, but it has a monthly membership fee and we found the customer service to be really really bad. You also have to schedule it in advance and have a hard drop off time.

We've used Gig like 5-10 times now and it's solid. Parking when you're done is sometimes difficult, but we rented it for like 7 hours recently and it was about $100 for the day. It's much more flexible with pick up and drop off times as well since you don't have to schedule in advance.

Gig isn't available in Florida yet but if you're visiting the states it is, I would highly recommend looking them up.
