Hmm. Bought a nice turnable for my HiFi and discovered I need a phono stage, which will set me back three figures for a decent one. Not up for that, along with the bulk and not really knowing what I am doing. So I've found an alternative turntable with an inbuilt phono stage for the same cash, similar quality. Only way to go really.

Mine is an old Sony turntable that has a phono stage built in I believe...it's running through my receiver as is the cassette and CD players. I think you are right in choosing the one that is less money.

Really? I haven't had one since my first rack set that my dad bought for me in high school. It was really cheesy, but it had a CD player, a separate tuner, an integrated amp with a photo stage, a dual-cassette deck (although the speed of one was off) and the turntable didn't come with a cartridge built in, although the seller included an Audio-Technica cartridge in the box that I had to plug in myself.

But that seemed to be the norm back in the late 80s. There was a switch on the back for the phono input that included the phono preamp or switched to a regular line level if I wanted to plug in something else.

But I'm not sure about 3 figures for one. This one is less than $15. I don't believe it includes the required 12V power supply though. Others are less than $75.

I stumbled into a all in one CD Player-Burner/Cassette player-recorder/turntable/AM-FM stereo radio at Bed Bath and Beyond about six years ago and I bought it. Burned a lot of my vinyl to CDs and then transferred it to an MP3 player.
Nothing better than cruising in my 1965 Mustang listening to my vinyl Beatles, and Monkees albums. And yes, I have Wilson Pickett's "Mustang Sally" too.
