Hey fellow Dizers,
I have been reading everyone’s trip reports and have to say that I have fully enjoyed them. I have actually enjoyed them so much that I felt the need to write my own report on my most recent trip, which took place about two weeks ago. I have been many times and can say that I truly say that I am a Disney Freak. It has gotten to the point where I don’t even need a map when walking around the parks. It’s bad and I blame it all on my grandmother, she herself is the one that first got me hooked on the Disney Magic.

So my grandmother announced to me that she was going to be at Disney for Easter and that she wanted to take me along. I gladly accepted the invitation and began to plan. Now see as much as I love my grandmother spending two weekends with her was not at the top of my to do list. She loves the magic that is associated with Disney but being in her sixties she is not as fast nor has as much as energy as she use to. Also her favorite rides are one like It’s a Small World and Peter Pan. I love those rides as well but my dream was to ride Everest. I had been to the parks in March and had chickened out so this time I was determined to conquer that thing. Although I knew my grandmother would be less than enthusiastic about my dream. That is what I got the brilliant idea of inviting my roommate, who had only been to Disney once in her life, poor soul. I told that she had to come so I could show her what the magic was all about and hopefully, turn her into a Disney fan as well. So it was decided that I would spend the first weekend alone with my grandmother and she would come the second.

Now I need to say that I am avid planner. Like I use to read all the books way before the trip and plan where we wanted to eat and where we wanted to go long before we ever made it to the airport. And this trip was no different. I told my grandmother exactly what I wanted to do with her, which was two behind the scenes tour, one was the Segway and the other was “Keys to the Kingdom” (I highly recommend these tours). However, this trip report is more about the weekend that I spent with my roommate who will forever more be referred to as DR.

Now my DR knows that I am a Disney Freak and many times believes that I am off my rocker. I relive all my favorite memories and all the favorite rides and places to eat. She just listens nicely and then changes the subject. I could see the look in her eye as I talked about our upcoming trip. It was the look that says Oh I hope you aren’t like this the entire time or I might go crazy kind of look. She just doesn’t understand what the hype is all about. Now I need to mention that she is from Bermuda and her way of life is very different from mine. She thinks that I talk too fast, walk too fast, and just need slow down and enjoy life. She is a pure island girl at heart. I told her that was a mentality that she would have to get over for our vacation. Sure, she could enjoy the sights but we only had three days and I wanted to make this nonbeliever in the magic a believer.

So before we left I planned out our days from start to finish. I looked up park times, EMH at what parks, and decided where we wanted to eat. There were a few changes made but overall I was happy with the plan. She listens as I rambled on for days telling me that yeah she was excited but there were more pressing matters at the moment than Disney. I was like what is more pressing than Disney? I saw that my job would be cut out. Finally, the morning of our departure arrived. We were packed ready to go and were off or so I thought!!!

Well I’m no sure if anyone will read it or even enjoy this report but I felt that I needed to join in the TR with my own and I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying reliving the memories. Up next Unexpected Travel Troubles and Unbearable Heat.

Sounds like you did some heavy duty planning! I can't wait to hear if you conquered Everest.

Thanks for posting.

Well I'm definately reading :thumbsup2 can't wait to see what your roomie thinks of our beloved "world",

Are you and your room-mate in school? Did you conquer Everest? Ok, inquiring minds want to know.

Yes my roommate and I are in school together. Today is officially our last day and we are both sad. We attend the University of Tampa.

So everything was planned and we were packed and ready to go. We set the alarm for 8:30 and went to bed. However the first obstacle arose when my grandmother was delayed picking us up. We ended up losing an hour. It was a little disappointing but hey getting to sleep an extra hour was heavenly. The car ride to Orlando was no too bad, we did hit some traffic that put us back about 30 minutes so we ended up getting to the Beach Club Villas around 11:30. Great we left our luggage in the room and headed to the concierge desk to get DR a ticket (I have a season pass so I was already set). Score; there was no line when we arrived. However, we unfortunately got the slowest CM at the desk and it was another 30 minutes until she was given a ticket. No Bother, we were off to catch the boat to MGM.

All right one thing that needs to be said is that my DR loves boats. She had recently spent the past year sailing around the world on a tall ship so for her to be able to ride a boat to MGM was great. We had to wait again for the boat to arrive (one thing I learned that day that there was going to be a ton a waits). Finally, the boat arrived and we headed to MGM. Along the way, the driver made a weak joke. Apparently, they are doing renovations on the Swan and he said that the cranes were used to feed the swans- ha-ha. Yah I did laugh, I have a soft spot for weak or corny jokes.

We finally get to the park and get in line to enter the park. And how about we get into the slowest line possible. Yes, so another ten minutes to even get through the gate, but finally we were in. First stop was the Great Movie Ride. It was good, just as I remembered it. I even found a few Hidden Mickeys. We then went and got a FP for Star Tours and headed to catch the Lights, Motor, and Action stunt show. It was a really great show and I would highly recommend it to anyone. After the show, it was time to use our FP. My DR was at this time thoroughly enjoying herself and said the she loved the feeling of being able to walk by all the people standing in the standby line. I totally agreed. So we board the ride, fasten our seatbelts, and our ready to go. They close the doors and nothing happens. A CM opens the doors back up, comes in, and says, “Take two.” Again the door closes and nothing. I look over at my DR and says “now isn’t this a great ride. So smooth you don’t feel a thing.” She gives me a weak smile but I can tell she is not enjoying being stuck in a small room with twenty people. Uh-oh we were losing the magic. I began to wonder if this ride was really worth the wait. Finally after another five minutes and much toying with the doors the ride starts. It was good but after we got off, we were ready to head back to the resort. We grab an ice cream bar on our way out and headed to the boat. There we got to wait in another long line and it took us 40 minutes to get back to the resort. One thing is for sure the wait was anything but magical.

We got back to the room and had about two minutes to relax before it was off to dinner at the Rose and Crown. DR was thoroughly excited about the prospects of eating and she wanted to try England. She loves Fish and Chips. We are seated in inside and enjoy a nice dinner with my grandmother. We had a wonderful waitress that paid extra special attention to us. My grandmother and DR both got fish and chips. I got the steak and found it very enjoyable. The only thing that would have made the experience better would have been a drink but alas, there was drinking on this trip. We took a swim in the pool after dinner and chatted with a couple of the lifeguards. Before we knew it, was time to head to the MK for EMH and an encounter with Frank.

Glad you enjoyed our good ol' english grub :teeth: Shame about Star Tours, and on your first day too,
Claire xx

Thank you for posting your trip report - off to a great start (well sort of but those dang long lines can't be misses sometimes). Can't wait to hear how your DR is enjoying the rest of your stay!
