Turning child PHP into adult PHP?

I know that if you buy a PHP for a child under 10 who then uses part of it, you can turn it in for an adult pass if you return after the child turns 10. However on another thread I read that the pass would have to be more that half used up to do this. So, that would mean you could trade in a 7 day PHP if 4 days are used, but not if only 3 days have been used?
I'd love to hear if any of you have had experience with this or know what the policy is. Thanks!

I believe the kids price are for those under the age of 9. Disney views those 9 and under as being children and over 9 as being juniors. For tickets, they are then charged adult prices.

Actually, Disney views children as those 3 through 9; at 10, you're an adult.

I have the same situation coming up in April. My DD is 9 and will be 9 for our April trip; I bought her a 7 day PHP even though we won't use all the days. I was told that you had to have used the ticket (no minimum number of days) and that they'd do the exchange. At the Disney Store, where I bought the ticket, the CM said I'd have to pay the difference for the exchange. I've learned on these boards, however, that WDW typically just gives you the adult pass in an even exchange (i.e. if you have 4 days and 2 plusses left on the child ticket, they'll give you an adult pass with 4 days and 2 plusses) at no extra charge.

We'll see what happens for sure after her October birthday.

Not true. It only has to be used once. Disney will then exchange the left over major park days and plusses for an adult ticket at no charge.

If the child's ticket has not been used at all, you will have to pay to upgrade it from a child's to an adult ticket.

If you have a 9 y.o. turning 10, don't even bother exchanging it. Just use it up.

Thanks for the responses Sandi and GoldenOldie! I knew I find an answer here (and luckily, one that I like!) I know my 9 year old will be using some of his 7 day PHP before he turns 10, just not sure how much. Now I feel less pressure to plan everything around his birthday!
