Our first full day at WDW, we decided to go to the Animal Kingdom first. This, after coffee on the balcony watching the giraffes and the elands go by. The elands were great. The males make a distinctive clicking noise, which is apparently their knee tendons. The older they get, the louder they get... I don't think it's just the elands.
After more of a lineup than I was hoping for (for some reason they were funnelling people from the line next to us to our turnstile, and more of them were getting through than us), we finally got in. There was no lineup for ITTBAB, so we did that first. Then we took stock of the time and realized we had time to walk through the trail in Asia before Flights of Wonder. I took a lot of bat pictures, and some of the other animals, and it was time for the birds. I was chosen to come up on stage and try to take a picture of the owl. My camera wasn't fast enough, even though I snapped when he was at the back of the theatre. I got a Magical Moments card for that.
We had lunch at the chicken stand and did KS, then headed off to Rafiki's. I took a picture of the hidden mickey on the mural in the building, and headed round the corner, almost colliding with Rafiki. He shook his finger at me, I guess I should be more careful. We finally did the rainforest sounds booth this time, and it was really good. I'd recommend it for anyone who hasn't been. Even though I knew it was just sounds, a couple of them made me nervous. Then we did the petting zoo. For some reason, I just love brushing the goats.
We decided we'd leave DinoLand USA for our next visit, and headed back to the hotel for a swim and a rest. EMH was at MK, and it was going to be 10-1, so we needed to be well-rested. We tried the African Stew at Mara for dinner. It was a little sweet, but good.
Then we headed to MK, arriving just before 8. We spent the next 5 hours riding everything, some things more than once. Toontown was closed, and we didn't do Fantasyland, except for Teacups and Philharmagic. Jungle Cruise wasn't supposed to be open, but a CM from Hong Kong was earning his ears, so we jumped at the chance to do the ride at night. The only unpleasant part was getting off the ride, and overhearing one of the people in front of us make a disparaging remark about the "F team". I guess he didn't realize that he was lucky to ride it at all, and I thought the CM did very well, considering the idiomatic nature of some of the material.
We left just before one, so we wouldn't be caught in the stampede, and arrived back at AKL, tired but exhilarated. One more thing I'd like to observe here, is that AKL buses are very efficient, and the most we had to wait for one was 15 minutes.
