Turning 21 mid cruise

We're thinking of a cruise next summer for my daughter's birthday. She'll turn 21 the day we'd be at Castaway, which would be a pretty amazing way to spend a 21st birthday. As she'd be checking in as a minor, with her KTTW card marked accordingly, would she be able to legally drink on her birthday?

She will need to go to guest services to get a new card on her birthday. They will replace the code so she shows up as an adult.

How long as it been since you could drink at 18 in international waters?
Some cruise lines may still permit this, but the Disney Cruise Line policy is that the drinking age is 21. The only exception is on European cruises, when parents/guardians may sign a waiver allowing children who are 18-20 years old to order alcohol in their presence.

Also, she can participate in 1820 Club until she turns 21, and will then no longer be eligible. Same as a kid who turns 13 getting removed from the 3-12 club on their birthday.

Just wanted to add this was not our experience with our niece. After the first day the 1820 group met up around the ship usually in the adult only area and 21+ kids hung out with them. There’s no “space” for them so no restrictions about others joining or way of “removing” them like the actual youth clubs.

That's been our experience as well with our 19 yo twin boys and 18 yo daughter. They have a staff member "assigned" to the group, but that's just for the scheduled events on the Navigator. Most of the time they link up on their own and hang out together. There are often people < 18 and > 20 with them.

I'll also point out that once they're off the boat, local laws apply. So if you're in Mexico with an 18 yo, they're usually allowed to drink, if they're even asked for ID (which they usually aren't). My daughter thought it was hilarious that she was allowed to participate in a tequila tasting in Cozumel.

The only hard lines I've seen DCL enforce is the 12 yo limit on Oceaneer's and the 17 yo limit on Vibe. They will literally sing Happy Birthday to the birthday kid then escort them to Edge / out of Vibe on their birthday. It's just policy.

I can't speak to Castaway Cay in particular, or what rules they have to follow on the cruise line, however I have family that lives on the other side of Great Abaco , and we could legally drink when we were 18 down there.
