So, I have to break down and ask.

What, exactly, is a Turndown Service. I have always assumed it has something to do with "getting the bed ready for sleep", but I can't figure out what it includes.

Please enlighten me!

They turn down the bed and leave candy on the pillow. They draw the drapes and leave a soft light on. The replace any used towels with fresh ones. In some hotels they also fill the ice bucket, they do'nt do that at WDW.

Turns down the covers, mint, freshens the room and replaces towels if necessary.

Thanks ducklite!

I'm still having trouble understanding why anyone would want someone else turning down their covers and closing the curtains.

Do most people have this done while they are in the room, or while they are out?? Can't imagine standing there in my jammies telling my DH he couldn't go to bed because I had scheduled a turndown service to fix his covers for him. He might just have me committed.

But--never having experienced this service, I suppose I can't judge. Maybe I'll have to try it on our upcoming trip.

thanks to you too Safety Mom

So, do you guys use this service?

Would you recommend it?

They usually come while we are out to dinner. If we were in the room at the time, I'd probably pass, although I might simply ask for fresh towels, and of course DH would kill me if I didn't get the candy! :)

I haven't done this at WDW but have done it at other hotels. It was a nice touch. Some nights I just met them at the door and said I didn't need anything but the candy. :)

It was nice coming back to the room and this was done. Just another of those special touches that keep you coming back.

what is an appropriate tip for this?

Just to let you know--if you ever need a house sitter for that retirement home--you just let me know!!

We leave $2 per evening for turndown.

Turndown service at AKL is fabulous (especially the candy). We requested it three days in a row, I forgot on the fourth day and we recieved the service anyway. (Turndown is standard for concierge guests.) A few days they came at about 5pm and we were getting ready for dinner. I thought that was really early, but I guess with such a big hotel it's necessary.

and staying in a resort for more than just a few days, turn down service is very nice. More towels, straightening the room, empty the trash, etc. very nice when your room is your home!

A little off topic, but they do turn down service on the Disney cruise every night without having to ask. (Of course, you can simply refuse it) Onboard it included the same things already said -- curtains closed, soft lights turned on, fresh towels, garbage removed, new soaps/toiletries if needed, and of course candy on the pillow. They always came when we were out at dinner/dinner show. (They also made towel animals)::MinnieMo
