Turn Around and See What Happens -- It's Whoopi Time and that's a wrap 3/31; F&G add

Oh Kathy, wonderful WONDERFUL news about your brother! I've been praying.:goodvibes I'm sure it's a relief and I hope that he's able to work too.

You know, we've never done Rafiki's Planet Watch! I don't know why. My girlies love animals and my youngest wants to be a vet so I think we'll have to make time for it next trip. You got some great pictures and how fun that you got to go as a group.:thumbsup2

I'm ashamed to say that we've never seen the AK parade either! I'm adding it to my list! Love the cool giraffe puppet thingy too.

It looks as if you were able to do quite a bit at AK so far. Those sweet girls have probably ruined you for Disney now...you'll always want to go with them!:goodvibes:goodvibes

The girls found a castmember that had some creature (don't remember what it was) and the adults just walked around and looked in all the windows, etc. No surgery was being performed today.
You make it sound so exciting! :lmao::rotfl2:

Mark saw this and had to have a picture
Too bad they didn't have an elephant hat there for him to use.

Soon the parade was over. After the masses cleared out, we made our way to the front of the park to exit
It really does look like a neat parade. Maybe one of these days we'll actually manage to stay in AK past about noon. :rolleyes1

Up next: we drive to AKL to get Mary and the girls in their new resort and special dinner plans for the adults ONLY
:scared1: Poor girls...

I'm glad things are looking slightly better for your brother. Hoping his improvement continues.

I'll come back with responses later (Mark and I are busy making reservations for our March trip, etc., in between all of our office work).

My brother is better. He's not out of the woods yet, but the foot is about 70% better and as of now no amputation. They have taken the port out of his arm and he will take an oral antibiotic every day which hopefully will NOT make him as ill as he has been on the one in the port. He has been cleared to go back to work on Monday which is a blessing for him mentally and us financially as we've been supporting him and my Mom for the last eight weeks and it has become a strain on us.

Thanks for all of the prayers.

So glad to hear Kathy  I am sure he is SO ready to get back to work, continued prayers and another  for you!

Haven't been around much lately, but I've been keeping up and have had you and your brother in my thoughts and prayers! So glad to hear he is doing better and for now they don't have to do the amputation.

I love the Jingle Jungle parade at Christmas. It is one of my favorites!

The parade looked like fun!

We haven't gone to Rafiki's in a few years…. maybe next time:confused3

Can't wait to see where you ate dinner. popcorn::

Glad to her your brother is doing better. :goodvibes

Just caught up and thoroughly enjoyed reading your trip report! The details and pics are awesome and make the days til my trip is here more bearable. :cheer2:

/

LOVED this picture! :cool1: I'm just now catching up. Tell Mark I said happy belated birthday! I didn't realize that he and I shared a Birthday! He must be super special! :dance3:

Loved the pics from Rafiki's! We've never been to that part of the park, but after seeing your update I think we should do that this time.

I'm going to try to get some responses done. I was without internet until late Sunday afternoon, and then spent my day off yesterday booking our Disney resort for two nights in March during Mark's business trip, booking the other hotels for the business trip booking our airlines for September trip, paying bills and washing floors. Today I was swamped at work.

We haven't been to Rafikis in a long time. I hate toads as much as you hate bats, although I do dislike bats intensely. Those giant toads really creep me out.

Doris, the toad was kind of creepy....he was huge.

The AK parade is my favorite. I love the music best of all!

Jen, in all of our visits to Disney, this was only the second time we have seen the parade.

It's been a couple of years since we've ventured over to Rafiki's Planet Watch. It's too bad they weren't performing any surgeries or check-ups while ya'll were there since it's pretty neat to watch them.

It would have been fun to see something; I know Avery did catch a surgery once.

Great pictures of the parade! You know that we've never stopped to watch the parade at Animal Kingdom and I have no idea why?

Lisa, like I told Jen above, this is only the second time we have seen it in all of our visits. We will definitely be going back.

Great pics! :goodvibes

Thank you. :)

Hello! Apologies for my absence... but I'm trying to get back into the swing around here, so I'm saying hi. I'll go back and do some reading later!

Tina, it is so good to see you. Thanks for popping in.

Two more things I need to put on my list to do!

We enjoyed them both.

I haven't been out to Rafiki's since 2011. I think we may end up there this time because my DB & SIL want to do everything the missed in 2010 and Rafiki's was one of them.

I hope you do...I really enjoy it there.

And as for the AK parade, well I've never seen it at all let alone the Christmas one. That's why there is always a next time, right? ::yes::

Absolutely!

It stinks that Mark has to miss out on some rides b/c of his surgeries, but he's making the right decision. My dad had fusion surgery on his spine due to discs and he made the mistake of riding Dinosaur (even though was advised not to :scratchin) and it really set him back for part of the trip.

I think the one he only really misses is TOT. He was never a big Dinosaur fan or a big Space Mountain fa.

We've never made it to the AK parade...in fact I don't think we've ever made it a point to watch ANY day time parade, although I think we're usually back at the resort in the mid-afternoon so that might explain that.

I hope one day you make at least one of the parades...they are fun. I'm looking forward to the new parade at the MK.

We made it to Rafiki's Planet Watch for the first time this year and I really enjoyed it! There was a lot of interesting things to see and I really liked the conservation/veterinary aspect of it.

There really is; it's good for everyone, but kids really love it.

I think a lot of AK is easy to overlook if you're just focused on the headliners but there's WAY more to do there than initially meets the eye. I also think it's an especially great park for kids...looks like you guys took full advantage of that.

I agree; we were never big fans...always too hot, our youngest got stung by a bee there twice. It really has moved up high on our list of favorites overall.

Wow! You are an updating machine!

I was...and then I fell down on the job with my lack of internet.

We have not been to Rafiki's or watched the parade at AK in a long time. Mainly to blame on the hot summers when we visit, but I guess we should figure it in again next year.

At least the train ride you can sit down and most of the stuff at Rafiki's Planet is inside.

LOVE the last photo of you and Mark in front of the tree. pixiedust:

Thanks, Karin. :)

I am one of the ones who neglects so much at AK so I'm loving the pics!!! It's always so hot, so after the safari and dinosaur we are usually done :(

Oh you must spend more time there. There is just so much to see and do. Maybe go later in the day and then you can do more?

Enjoyed your trip to Rafiki's. We haven't been out there since our first trip with the kids in 2004.

Thanks, Linda.

I love the Jingle Jungle parade. I think this is one of Disney's better afternoon parades.

I agree; and I really want to make more of an effort of going more often.

Checking into AKL!!

Well, we weren't checking in, but Mary and the girls were. I will however be there in 42 days.

Great updates!

Thanks, D.

We ventured to RPW on our last trip, we didn't spend too much time there, long enough to get V's autograph from Rafiki himself.

I'm glad V got her autograph. :)

Love the AK parade - it's pretty sad that the ONLY time we have ever seen it was while we were in it. LOL We need to make a point of watching it some day.

How did I not know you were in that parade?

Looks like you all had a fun day! :)

D~

We did...thanks.

I'll finish up replies tomorrow. Mark tried to fly to Philadelphia today and al flights were cancelled. So he has to be up at 4 a.m. tomorrow to try again. So I need to get to bed so I'm sure he is up and doesn't sleep through his alarm.

I am going to have to get it into our plans, I know the kids would love it. Hope Mark has an uneventful flight, and YAY for March :dance3:

We have never made it over to Rafiki's Planet Watch. We always say we MUST do it, because DD14 wants to be a vet, so we know she would love watching a surgery...but we have yet to make it over there. Other things just keep us too busy, I guess. :sad2:

Such a cute picture of you and Mark in front of the Christmas tree! :goodvibes

Love the pics from Rafikis, it's been quite a while since I've been up there!

It was nice getting over there; I know the girls love it.

The jungle parade is so cool, I always enjoy it. Those floats are so colourful!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

I agree; those floats are wonderful.

Another MUST DO!! the parade! we haven't seen it yet!! Rafiki planet and the parade! :cool1: you SOLD me!!!

I'm glad...I really think your kids will love it!

Love the picture with Mark and the Elephant! So cute!!!

A man and his elephants.

holy cow that toad/frog is HUGE!!! it was real?!?!

Yes, he was real!

Fantastic news Kathy!

Jill in CO

Thanks, Jill.

So many fun updates!!

Thank you!

We've never actually seen the AK parade --- your photos are great!

Thanks; it really is a parade worth sticking around for.

I had no idea what the Rafiki Planet watch thing is... that's the first time I've read about it. Obviously Africa gets ignored in our AK adventures. Oops!

Ummmm...you need to get over there and take a look.

The Jingle Jungle Parade was fun! (Again, a first for us last month.) I love Chip & Dale so they were a lot of fun.

Aren't they cute? I love those guys. It was our first time for the "Jingle" version and we enjoyed it too.

I'm so glad to the good news for your brother's foot. I hope he continues to heal well. :goodvibes

Thank you; so far, so god. He's been a little tired at work this week but that is expected after being off for nine weeks.

Sounds like your brother is on the mend! Not going to stop praying though 'cause he still has 30% more to go before being well AND he needs prayer that the meds won't make him so sick.

Thanks, Lisa. Yes, he still needs prayers for this to completely heal.

Happy to hear your brother's feeling better.

Thank you, Tina.

Great news on your brother, Kathy! :goodvibes

Thanks, Karin.

I am glad your brother is doing better, still sending prayers your way.

Thank you so much.

When we went to AK in 2009 it had to be the hottest day of the year and we were like human baked potatoes, it wasn't a pretty sight. Needless to say our first impressions on Animal Kingdom left us not wanting to ever go back. Your pictures give a whole new perspective on the park. We are trying it again in Aug. but we are only planning one day.

May I suggest you hang at the resort in the morning, and then hit AK later in the afternoon? Perhaps on a day when it is open later? It might help with the heat.

Looks like a fun parade!!

It really is...we loved it.

I love seeing the tigers. I'm glad they, or it, was out and awake for you.

I was too...they are usually sleeping (like the lion on safari) when we go.

My, what big meets you have! Looked like you had a really nice time together.

We did...it was a lot of fun meeting in person.

It was kind of hard to tell how Avery felt about Dinosaur, but her love of EE came through loud and clear!

She definitely loves EE! Poor girl...don't know who will ride with her in May?

Sorry you had a rough time on PW. I can't believe I do ok on it. Astro Orbitor- nuh-uh. Tea Cups- no way! But so far PW has been ok.

Too funny; I can do the Tea Cups if we don't get too wild and crazy, but PW...nope, not again.

That photopass spot may be my favorite in all of the parks.

It really is a great spot!

So glad to hear this! Thanks for keeping us posted about how he is doing.

Thank you; we were all relieved.
**************************************

Hope Mark had a great birthday!!!

I believe he did...he loved his presents. :)

**************************************

We have never been to Rafikis. The boys first trip to AK was when they were 6 and 3 and they would have liked it but we only had a few hours at AK on that trip.

Their next trip wasn't for another 4 years and I don't even think I knew about this until fairly recently. The petting zoo must be great, but I get to do some of that at work. Part of my job at the historic farm where I work is hand-feeding the animals when we have school groups. I can't complain about getting paid to feed the goats, sheep, donkey, horse, pigs and chickens and my boys get to help when they come to work with me.

Perhaps a future trip? I would love to have your job and get paid to feed the animals. :)

The frogs and toads are awesome!

I couldn't believe the size of them.

Thankfully I don't mind creepy crawlies because I was blessed with boys.

Most of them don't bother me for the same reason.

Cute pictures of the Jungle Jingle Parade.

Thank you.

You got photobombed by Tigger!

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Yes, we did. :)

I haven't been to Rafiki's planet since 2006. Should I go again? It does look cool - at least that giant toad does.

We enjoyed it; and they have a lot of CM's with interestin ginformation. I'd give it a whirl.

I love the AK parade, especially the Christmas version. It's just so fun and festive. I enjoyed your pics. :thumbsup2

Thanks, MaryEllen.

Great news about your brother! Prayers he continues to improve!!

Thank you, Lisa.

Thanks for letting us tag along to rafikis was fun having a bit more time with you all :)

We were delighted to have you with us.

The Kimono Dragon. I think I read it just died.

I had not read that; that is sad.

Rosie loves her poles.

Yes she does!

LOL about PW. I just don’t like looking down and seeing the concrete.

I don't like anything about it!!!!

Nice photopass pics.

Thank you. :)

We missed conservation station this trip.  Great pics there.

Thanks; it's so hard to get everything in on a trip.

Ooh the parade. Yep missed that too.
Great update and pics

Sorry you missed the parade; their Christmas parade is great.

Yes Scott Rosie does love her Pole Dancing !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yes she does! :)

Rafiki's planet watch is cute, but we never go there, I don't know why! Maybe because the train ride is so long? :rotfl: It's cool seeing where the animals go at night!

I don't find the train ride that long...and it's a good way to rest your feet. :)

Aww, the parade is so adorable, I love your pictures! I always say I'm going to see the parade and I never do, someday I hope!!

You've never seen the parade? You must do it on your next trip.

Great DIS meet and pics from AK!
It's funny, we have a lovely lady that volunteers at our elementary school and her name is Rosie. Her theme is Read, Read Read! She comes in and reads to the younger grades every week. She looks an awful lot like Rosie!! I don't think Grandma Rosie from here is quite as energetic as our DIS friend!

Thanks, Sheree It was a fun DIS meet and we had a great time at the AK. Our Rosie is an original...that is for sure. I wish I had half her spunk. :)

I can't do spinny rides either. Did PW ONCE. and only once. Don't do teacups. Want to try EE and Star Tours, but a bit nervous. Maybe with dramamine?

Tea Cups don't bother me, but definitely never doing PW again. I can't do EE; Star Tours I'm okay if just once, but not twice in a row like we used to do. I've ehard that dramamine helps.

Glad to hear your brother's doing better. Continued prayers and good wishes for you all.

Thank you very much.

Happy Belated b-day Mark - saw the FB pics of the office! How fun!

Mariana has been with him awhile, and he bought her a "Just Keep Swimming T-Shirt and one for himself; they often wear them on casual Fridays. :)

Glad you guys get to enjoy a couple days at WDW again soon! Lucky!

I am too...anything to get away from this never-ending winter.

Kathy, so good to read the great news about your brother! Hoping the new drug regimen will not make him sick and he will be able to handle going back to work. Will continue to keep him in my prayers.

Thanks, Janet. He's tired, but the meds have not made him sick thankfully.

*********************************

Love all the pictures! The AK parade is a favorite of mine (as well as the whole park). And it was great seeing Rafiki's pictures as we haven't done this since 2006. Will try to squeeze this in next trip. :)

It's such a fun parade with the floats. I hope you cna squeeze in Rafiki.

As you know, we are big fans of Animal Kingdom, and we go to Rafiki's every trip - sometimes several times. We are fascinated by all of the animal information, check-ups and surgeries, and opportunities to see and touch the animals. Thanks for the pictures. I certainly enjoyed seeing the parade pretending to sit there with Cayley and Avery. Cayley looks like she has taken a growth spurt. She looks so tall!

Caren, I know how much you all love AK and I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. I swear she has...she's almost as tall as Avery!

Good to hear your brother's situation has shown some improvement. :)

Thank you. And I'm glad to hear you are doing better too. :goodvibes

Oh Kathy, wonderful WONDERFUL news about your brother! I've been praying.:goodvibes I'm sure it's a relief and I hope that he's able to work too.

Thanks, Molly. So far, so good with work. Hoping it keeps up.

You know, we've never done Rafiki's Planet Watch! I don't know why. My girlies love animals and my youngest wants to be a vet so I think we'll have to make time for it next trip. You got some great pictures and how fun that you got to go as a group.:thumbsup2

Yes, you must make a huge effort to get there next trip. Your girls would love it. And it was fun having Lisa and Megan along with us. Megan and the girls hit it off really well.

I'm ashamed to say that we've never seen the AK parade either! I'm adding it to my list! Love the cool giraffe puppet thingy too.

The giraffe float is one of my favorites. Now get to it girl and put it on your must do list.

It looks as if you were able to do quite a bit at AK so far. Those sweet girls have probably ruined you for Disney now...you'll always want to go with them!:goodvibes:goodvibes

I love my trips with my hubby, but it will be odd NOT going to Disney World with the girls in 2015. But there is some place else we might be going with the girls in 2015.

I'm goign to stop here and go grab some lunch and then back to finish replies and if no one bothers me, hopefully an update so I can then catch up on everyone else's threads (being off the internet for almost two days really threw me behind).

You make it sound so exciting! :lmao::rotfl2:

Well, it would have been more exciting in my husband's eyes if an elephant was having a procedure done.

Too bad they didn't have an elephant hat there for him to use.

We probably should have run outside to see if they ahd one for the photo.

It really does look like a neat parade. Maybe one of these days we'll actually manage to stay in AK past about noon. :rolleyes1

Or start your day at the AK after 12:00 noon? :cool2:

:scared1: Poor girls...

Why poor girls? They were getting their own special treat.

I'm glad things are looking slightly better for your brother. Hoping his improvement continues.

Thanks, Andy.

So glad to hear Kathy  I am sure he is SO ready to get back to work, continued prayers and another  for you!

Thank you, Jeanette (did I spell that right...I always feel I'm messing it up).

Haven't been around much lately, but I've been keeping up and have had you and your brother in my thoughts and prayers! So glad to hear he is doing better and for now they don't have to do the amputation.

Well, hello there stranger. Glad to know you are still with us. Thank you for the prayers for my brother.

I love the Jingle Jungle parade at Christmas. It is one of my favorites!

It has now become one of mine.

The parade looked like fun!

Have you never seen the parade at AK?

We haven't gone to Rafiki's in a few years…. maybe next time:confused3

Are you planning an AK day there on your next trip? Wasn't sure as it is a short trip.

Can't wait to see where you ate dinner. popcorn::

You will be finding out soon.

Glad to her your brother is doing better. :goodvibes

Thanks, Tim.

Just caught up and thoroughly enjoyed reading your trip report! The details and pics are awesome and make the days til my trip is here more bearable. :cheer2:

:welcome::welcome: thank you for joining. I'm so glad you are enjoying and I'm glad to make it more bearable for you until your next trip.

....slowest train ever. :rolleyes1

Oh, it's not that bad.

Good-lookin' fella there!

Typical guy statement. And no I didn't kiss him to see if he'd turn into a handsome prince; I already have my prince.

As long as they have their priorities straight!

Seriously; I think in May I will buy two boxes of popcorn every time I get it since I seldom get very much of one box. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

LOVED this picture! :cool1: I'm just now catching up. Tell Mark I said happy belated birthday! I didn't realize that he and I shared a Birthday! He must be super special! :dance3:

Yes you did...two great guys sharing a special day! Sorry you won't meet him in May. :(

Loved the pics from Rafiki's! We've never been to that part of the park, but after seeing your update I think we should do that this time.

Oh, I hope you do...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I am going to have to get it into our plans, I know the kids would love it. Hope Mark has an uneventful flight, and YAY for March :dance3:

Yes, he made it and landed early this morning. He comes home tomorrow night...let's hope no problems with the weather they are predicting for us. :headache: 37 days and counting until Florida (42 days until Disney).

We have never made it over to Rafiki's Planet Watch. We always say we MUST do it, because DD14 wants to be a vet, so we know she would love watching a surgery...but we have yet to make it over there. Other things just keep us too busy, I guess. :sad2:

I think you need to make it a priority next trip; it's really a neat place.

Such a cute picture of you and Mark in front of the Christmas tree! :goodvibes

Thank you; that's one of my favorites from the trip.

Have you never seen the parade at AK?
Yes we've seen it.

Are you planning an AK day there on your next trip? Wasn't sure as it is a short trip.
I have no idea what we are planning. We skipped Epcot this year so I guess we would spend some time there. I can't wrap my mind around what we are going to do. Sunday we will be off the boat by 9am I would guess. So we would be in WDW by 11am at the latest. Check in somewhere then probably head to a park for a while. Maybe we would end up in MK to see Wishes at night. :confused3

It will probably be hot has heck so I might foresee us doing mornings at a park then hit a different park after an afternoon break or relaxing and swimming. But I always think we will do that then we stay in a park from open to closing. I guess I need to come up with some sort of plan.

Thank you, Jeanette (did I spell that right...I always feel I'm messing it up).
You spelled it perfectly Kathy :goodvibes And I would never correct ya, I still misspell my last name from time to time when I sign charts (I've been married over 20 years :lmao:)

Yes, he made it and landed early this morning. He comes home tomorrow night...let's hope no problems with the weather they are predicting for us. :headache: 37 days and counting until Florida (42 days until Disney).

:yay: Glad to hear! Ugh this winter is absolutely relentless :sad2: Eyes out here are on Super Bowl...I think they are digging out the stadium as we speak :scared:

So when I left you last, we were exiting the Animal Kingdom and heading over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge where Mary and the girls woudl be staying for the remainder of their trip.

I just LOVE walking into this lobby (and can't wait to do it again in 42 days):

Mark taking a load off his feet while Mary checked in:

Cayley watching a little Mickey Mouse television while waiting for her mom:

Soon Mary had her room and off we went. Of course, the girls and I made a beeline for the balcony to see what animals we could find:

After the three adults freshened up a bit, Avery, Mary and I went downstairs to get the girls some dinner to have in the room while we went to our dinner.

We put my cell number in Avery's phone in case she needed to call us for any reason (Mary was having spotty cell service at this point).

Mark, Mary and I headed back downstairs to go to dinner.

Mary and Mark waiting for our table:

And where were we dining? Mara? Boma? Nope...none of those. We were having our first ever dinner here:

I will tell you right now, I don't remember what anyone had (I should have taken notes at my age since I tend to forget and because we'd never eaten here before and I knew I wouldn't remember anything). So I present you with our meals:

OOOH....I know what that is...BREAD. :rotfl2:

Oh, look, I took a photo to describe what the things above were:

I had a birthday button on, so they brought me this:

I think this was Mark's or Mary's?

Our very nice CM took a photo of us (Mary was laughing about something):

During the dinner, the girls called me twice. They wanted to let us know they had eaten all of their dinner and were behaving. Such good girls they are.

We enjoyed our dinner at Jiko. I'm not sure that I will rush to get back because there are too many places I still want to try (we will finally be trying Flying Fish and Via Napoli in September). The food was very good, just a little different than what I am used to eating spice wise.

We went and got the girls and took them down to Mara to get them some dessert. Then we went to the gift shop to look around. Of course, someone had to play:

We bid the girls goodnight as Mark and I had an early morning the next day before we meet up with the girls at our next park. A few pictures when we got back to the Boardwalk:

Oh yes, I almost forgot. A very DEAR Disney friend, made t-shirts for Mark and I for donating to her fundraising event that she was doing for Give Kids the World (a place to close to our heart because of Tim (that's nice) and his family; Tim, I never know what to get my two other bosses for the holidays, so I sent a donation in each of their names to GKTW). She also made one for Mary and each of the girls. Well, the night before we were heading to Disney, they were supposed to have been in my mail. I got home and found an evil note that said that the delivery could not be made because no one was home. This frosted my you know what because it said NO signature required. We have a lazy, fat you know what mail person who refused to get out of her truck. The note said we could pick it up any time after 8:30 a.m. the next morning. Um....that's a problem. We'll be on a plane. So we headed over to the post office and I asked if my brother could pick it up and then he would ship to me. They didn't want to do that because he does not live with me.

I finally got a manager and told her we HAD to have those t-shirts as they were for all of us to wear during the trip for Christmas and that it was their fault the package wasn't left. She agreed to let my brother pick it up. He then went to Fed Ex and had it shipped to me at a cost of $60. :crazy2: The package arrived at the BWV, but it went to the business office which was now closed. This is a picture of me talking to the CM to find out the best way to go about getting it since they didn't reopen until 9 a.m. the next morning and we'd already be at breakfast:

She asked if we were going back up to the room and that she would see what she could do and call me.

So as we headed up to the room, a few more photos:

(Those truly are scary chairs )

About 20 minutes after we arrived in our room, there was a knock on the door. A very sweet CM went and retrieved my package and I had my shirts. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: I have to say that the CM's at the BWV were outstanding in every, single way.

Up next...a new breakfast ADR for Mark and I (Andy...be sure you catch this one).
